Former W.A.S.P. Guitarist RANDY PIPER Seeing Vocalist For New Project
- Nov. 1, 2012
Former W.A.S.P. guitarist Randy Piper is holding vocalist auditions on November 14-16 at the Temple Theater in Tacoma, Washington. Auditions are by appointment only and can be made through RandyPiper.net.
Randy is looking for the right combination of vocal skill, stage presence, creativity, and charisma to front his new heavy metal project.
"I'm ready for some new blood," Piper said. "I want someone to come in with the confidence to nail the W.A.S.P. songs, but also be comfortable blazing new territory."
The right person should be able to sing classic W.A.S.P. hits, sound great with Piper, be free of drug or alcohol issues, and be able to travel overseas. A great stage presence and the ability to relate to and command an audience is a must.
There are four songs to choose from, including W.A.S.P. classics "Wild Child" and "Savage"; "Nowhere Fast" from the movie "Streets Of Fire", and the previously unreleased Randy Piper ANIMAL track "Raising Hell".
"'Raising Hell' is an opportunity for someone to really shine," Piper said. "This track has the chorus on there to give you a start, but I really want to hear someone come in with their own lyrics and blow this away."

GEOFF TATE Says He Has Already 'Spent A Fortune' Taking QUEENSRŸCHE Bandmates To Court
- Nov. 1, 2012
Robyn Vagnozzi of Screamer Magazine recently conducted an interview with QUEENSRŸCHE singer Geoff Tate. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
On his legal battle with his former bandmates over the rights to the QUEENSRŸCHE name:
Tate: "Well, we're in a court case now. They fired me, basically. They can't, legally, because we have a corporation together — we have three corporations together, and they can't legally do that. And so it's what's called a 'corporate dispute' now. We have a court date that's set for November of next year. And in the meantime, we're in litigation, basically, so anything can happen. So what originally happened was they started a side project — which is fine. We've all had the agreement we can all do side projects over the years. And Scott's [Rockenfield, drums] done a number of them and so has Michael [Wilton, guitar], and I've done a solo project, and that kind of thing. And so I was getting ready for this new album and doing a short acoustic tour. And they decided that they were going to put together a side project called RISING WEST, which is fine. But then they found out that they couldn't book any shows because that name doesn't have any value. And so they fired me and went after the name, QUEENSRŸCHE. And, of course, they can't do that legally. So I had to file what's called an injunction to try to get them to stop using the name. I spent a fortune taking them to court and filing this case. And at the end of the day the judge decided that, 'Hey guess what? Both parties can use the name QUEENSRŸCHE for the rest of the year. And so we have our court date. And so my whole plan kinda backfired, in a sense, because I was just saying, 'Hey let's not use the name, either of us, until we decide what we're going to do.' But they wanted to keep doing it. And so as of right now the judge gave us permission for both parties to use the name QUEENSRŸCHE. So in the spring I'm launching a new QUEENSRŸCHE and now we're booking dates for it. And both 'QUEENSRŸCHEs' will be touring. Somebody is going to win the name next November, in 2013, and whoever wins the name has to pay the other party off the value of what the name is worth at that point. So either I'll be getting a large sum of money or they will. It's a terrible, awful situation and it's not what I chose to do. It's definitely not the way that I envisioned my band and my life's work ending on that note. I envisioned us all being elderly gentlemen sitting around the park playing checkers going, 'Hey, you remember back in the day when we did this?'"
On how he assembled his version of QUEENSRŸCHE:
Tate: "When the judge said that we could both use the name QUEENSRŸCHE, I thought long and hard about how to go about doing that. And so I'm kind of a list maker. I got out a piece of paper and a pencil and I just kind of started making lists of what I wanted to try to accomplish with it. First and foremost, I wanted to have really great players. I wanted to be able to stand on that stage with people that would really throw everything they had into the music, because that's what I do. And so I wanted to find people that were amazing players. Secondly, I wanted to find people that I had a relationship with already or I was friends with or I really respected their work. Rudy Sarzo [QUIET RIOT, DIO, OZZY OSBOURNE] and Bobby Blotzer [RATT] I've known for 30-plus years. We've been friends all these years, and always talked about making music together, so when this thing came up, I called them and luckily they were able to move their schedules around and make it all work. We're both very excited about the prospect. Glen Drover [MEGADETH, KING DIAMOND] I've known for a while and I came at him more as a fan. I love his guitar playing. He's just a really special guitar player and a very fluid player. And I thought that he and Kelly Gray, would be a really interesting guitar team because they're complete opposites in their style. Glen is very fluid and Kelly, every time he picks up a guitar he picks a fight with it — it's just this chunky, kind of forceful style, and I thought that would be an interesting juxtaposition of styles. So that's kind of my game plan, was to do that and I put together a great live band that people would want to see and that I'd want to play with. Glen and Rudy and Bobby are strictly for the upcoming QUEENSRŸCHE dates and I have a different group of people who are supporting me on my solo tour."
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY: New Video Interview With JOHN DESERVIO
- Nov. 1, 2012
On October 18, Jason Saulnier of the MusicLegends.ca web site conducted an interview with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY bassist John DeServio in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. You can now watch the chat below.
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's long-talked-about "Unblackened" DVD, which was previously scheduled to be filmed in late August at The Mayan in Los Angeles, California, will now be shot in January. The set is expected to contain stripped-down versions of some of the band's most popular cuts. "We're gonna do the whole thing with a four-piece string section, a pedal steel guy, and I'm gonna have some of my musician buddies sit in on some of the songs and stuff like that," BLACK LABEL SOCIETY mainman Zakk Wylde said a few months ago. "We're gonna have two solid weeks of rehearsal and then we're gonna knock this thing out. [It will be an] acoustic/electric type of thing. Kinda like how the Christmas record is or like how we did 'The Song Remains Not The Same' where you've got an acoustic and then you can put a rippin' solo something. So I'll still have the Marshalls going with the acoustic stuff. It'd be almost kinda like if PINK FLOYD was doing an unplugged thing and they did 'Comfortably Numb' but Dave [Gilmour] will be sitting down but he'll still rip that solo out. It'll still be electric and then we’ll have the string section behind it and the whole band and it'll be killer."
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's "The Song Remains Not The Same" sold around 12,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 41 on The Billboard 200 chart. Released on May 10, 2011 via Entertainment One Music, the offering featured unplugged versions of material from BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's latest album, "Order Of The Black", as well as additional material recorded during the "Order Of The Black" sessions. "The Song Remains Not The Same" was conceived, created and compiled by Wylde himself and the title is, of course, a nod to one of Wylde's favorite bands, LED ZEPPELIN.
"Order Of The Black" was released in North America in August 2010 via E1 Music. The CD featured four unique covers designed by Zakk Wylde himself — one for each territory: North America, Europe, Asia and Australia/New Zealand.

AEROSMITH Performs On 'Late Show With David Letterman' (Video)
- Nov. 1, 2012
AEROSMITH performed earlier tonight (Thursday, November 1) on the CBS talk show "Late Show With David Letterman". You can now watch video footage of the band's appearance below. Also available is an interview with singer Steven Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry.
AEROSMITH will complete their contract with Columbia Records on November 6 with the release of the band's new album, "Music From Another Dimension", and the group may join the ranks of acts like RADIOHEAD, NINE INCH NAILS and PEARL JAM who have left the major label world behind.
According to The Pulse Of Radio, Tyler told reporters on a conference call last month that "if the band stays together, yeah, we'll definitely go that route, something somewhere over there. We've been keeping record companies stocked with millions of shekels for years, been making a lot of people rich — not that we haven't, but every now and then you get into arguments with labels (and) you think, 'Where is all this money going?' We've definitely thought of putting stuff out."
Perry was more cautious about the idea, however, saying, "We've talked about every idea you can think of out there, and we really don't know. There's so many different directions we can go."
"Music From Another Dimension" is AEROSMITH's first album of all-new material in 11 years, although three singles released so far from the disc — "Legendary Child", "What Could Have Been Love" and "Lover Alot" — have failed to catch fire at radio stations.
The band will begin a new leg of touring on November 8 in Oklahoma City, and plans to follow that with a world tour in 2013. Beyond that, Tyler plans to record a full solo album next year as well, while Perry will become the third member of the band, after Tyler and drummer Joey Kramer, to publish his autobiography.

DUFF MCKAGAN's 'It's So Easy And Other Lies' Book To Be Turned Into Documentary
- Nov. 1, 2012
Rainstorm Entertainment has announced that it will produce the biographical documentary "It's So Easy And Other Lies", which will be directed and produced by Christopher Duddy ("Cougar Club"). The film will be produced by Steven G. Kaplan ("The Big Empty", "F*CK" and "Sunset Strip") for Rainstorm Entertainment, and by former GUNS N' ROSES bassist Duff McKagan, whose life story the film is based on. The start date is scheduled for later this year. Executive producers include Daniel Zirilli ("Locked Down"), Joe Mundo ("Sunset Strip"), Christopher Shelburne and Kati Thomson ("Sunset Strip").
The film, which takes its name from the title of Duff McKagan's best-selling autobiography, will document the remarkable life of one of the founding members of both GUNS N' ROSES and VELVET REVOLVER. It is the story of his rise to the pinnacle of fame and fortune, his struggles with alcoholism and drug addiction, his personal crash and burn, and his phoenix-like transformation via a unique path to sobriety and eventual redemption. The book was a best seller in 2011, with the film being targeted at not only that fan base, but to fans of Duff's bands, including GUNS N' ROSES, VELVET REVOLVER and LOADED. Combined, these bands have sold over 100 million albums worldwide.
Said Steven G. Kaplan: "We are thrilled to partner with Duff McKagan on this impactful documentary which transcends the rise, fall and redemption of a rock star and delves into real life issues of addiction and sobriety."
In a 2011 interview with Rolling Stone magazine, McKagan stated about the "It's So Easy" book, "It's not really my story, it's really not even my autobiography or memoir. I think that term is overused. It is a story of some shit that happened to me, but probably not the typical [things] what people might expect. It's not my story of GUNS N' ROSES or VELVET REVOLVER. All of those things are sort of in it, because they're things I bounced through as I was getting deeper and deeper into addiction and finding my way out. It was challenging going through some of these things that I hadn't thought about for a long time. And writing forces you to take your own part of your life, of what role you actually played — as opposed to the one you make up later on."
Duff's VELVET REVOLVER/GUNS N' ROSES bandmate Slash has published his own book, as has ex-GUNS drummer Steven Adler, who released his life story, "My Appetite For Destruction: Sex And Drugs And Guns N' Roses", in July 2010.
Rainstorm Entertainment is a privately financed development, production, financing and sales company. It was launched in 2002 by Kaplan. Rainstorm's mission is to produce high-quality, commercially viable, financially responsible and talent-driven feature films by writers and directors who have compelling stories and unique visions.

JANE'S ADDICTION's Cover Of 'Sympathy For The Devil' To Appear On 'Songs Of Anarchy: Vol. 2'
- Nov. 1, 2012
Alternative rock pioneers JANE'S ADDICTION recently recorded a cover version of THE ROLLING STONES classic "Sympathy For The Devil" for the second album of music from FX's hit drama "Sons Of Anarchy", entitled "Songs Of Anarchy: Vol. 2" and scheduled for release on November 19.
"When JANE'S ADDICTION said they were into the idea of doing 'Sympathy For The Devil' for the show, we were completely blown away," said "Sons Of Anarchy" music composer Bob Thiele. "This was made all the more sweet because theirs was the first and only door we knocked on. JANE'S ADDICTION is one of the few post-'60s/'70s iconic bands that resonates with our show's mythology. They have typified rebellion from their very beginnings. It seemed a natural fit between a band and a song with so many layers of meaning to the 'Sons Of Anarchy' narrative. I can proudly say that the end product speaks for itself. Working with them, as a band and as individuals, was an incredibly satisfying experience."
JANE'S ADDICTION originally issued a live version of "Sympathy For The Devil" in 1987 on their self-titled album.
As previously reported, JANE'S ADDICTION guitarist Dave Navarro will show off his acting skills in the last two episodes of the show's current season. Navarro's character will be a member of the Byz-Lats gang, affiliated with NeroPadilla, the "companionator" played by actor Jimmy Smits.
JANE'S ADDICTION's latest album, "The Great Escape Artist", came out in September 2011.

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY: New EP Artwork Unveiled
- Nov. 1, 2012
Scion Audio/Visual, (a.k.a. Scion A/V), the in-house record label and lifestyle marketing division of the Scion marque produced by Toyota Motor Corporation for the North American market, will release the new EP from Raleigh, North Carolina legends CORROSION OF CONFORMITY. Entitled "Megalodon", the effort will feature "five heavy tracks."
In a recent interview with Revolver magazine, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY guitarist Woody Weatherman stated about the band's forthcoming EP, "It's totally done, mixed and mastered, and we just got finished with it this past week. And I think it's coming out in about three or four weeks. It's a pretty quick turnaround, which is unusual in this day and age, but they can do it, they can make it happen … We did that in our hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina, which is kind of nice, to be able to hang around in town and not have to go out somewhere, go to L.A. or New York. Sometimes it's nice to record at home. You get a little better vibe. Plus I got to use all of my own gear. So it was fun."
The "Megalodon" cover artwork can be seen below.
Candlelight Records has set a November 6 North American release date for CORROSION OF CONFORMITY's "Eye For An Eye". This special reissue has been remastered/packaged and includes the EP "Six Songs With Mike Singing". Both titles have been out of print for years. It follows the successful release of the band's self-titled album earlier this year. A deluxe digibook edition of the album, limited to 1000 for North America, will be available at limited retailers and via Candlelight's official webstore. The digibook version includes extended liner notes and a rare pictorial gallery.
Originally released in 1984, "Eye For An Eye" featured the original lineup of Weatherman, bassist Mike Dean, drummer Reed Mullin and vocalist Eric Eycke. Reissued to incorporate the 1989 EP by Mike Dean (who left the band between 1987-1992), "Eye For An Eye" is raw in sound but focused on message. The years that followed would see the band rise to worldwide popularity with breakthrough and Billboard-charting releases "Blind" and "Deliverance".
Formed in Raleigh in 1982, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY quickly transformed heavy music. Politically charged and socially aware, the band has influenced countless others and today remains humble about their accomplishments. With over 1.1 million albums sold in the United States, the band continues to find new fans via nonstop touring.

ANTHRAX Guitarist's 'Blood & Guts': New Episode Available
- Nov. 1, 2012
"Blood & Guts", the Nerdist YouTube channel web series hosted by ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian, premiered on October 3. In the series' fifth episode episode (see below), join Ian as he as he gets an overview of the fusion of practical and CG effects from Robert Hall and Almost Human ("Buffy The Vampire Slayer", "The Crazies", "Paranormal Activity 3" and "4").
"I've been neck-deep in blood and guts for the last 30 years playing in ANTHRAX," stated Scott Ian, "so I couldn't be more excited to be hosting a show called 'Blood & Guts' for you horror and metal fans."
When asked how his collaboration with Nerdist came about, Ian told Nerdist.com, "Just out of the blue last week, [Nerdist founder] Chris [Hardwick] hit me up and asked me if it was something I'd be interested in. He felt my personality was right for this. I guess the backstory on it would be that when they first came up with the idea for 'Talking Dead', I got a call about shooting the pilot, and my job was field reporter. What they did for my segment was send me out to the set of one of the webisodes, and then Greg Nicotero and his team made me up as a zombie and I got to be a walker. I had closeups and everything in the webisode. When it got picked up, they didn't keep me as field reporter — that position, I guess, wasn't something they were gonna move forward with — but Chris just kept it in the back of his mind. I can only assume that when Nerdist and Fangoria had the idea to do this show, Chris said I'd be the right guy to be going out and hosting these things because of the bit I did on 'Talking Dead'."
On the topic of his favorite horror make-up moments of all time, Ian said, "The first thing to pop into my mind is when Tom Savini gets torn apart in 'Dawn Of The Dead'. That scared me as a kid and I guess you could kinda say it stayed with me in a good way. The scene in 'Scanners' when his head blows up, that's a classic. Anything in 'Evil Dead' or 'Evil Dead 2'. I know I mentioned this, but I just watched 'Drive' last week and that scene where she gets her head blown off is straight out of an '80s horror movie. The movie's not necessarily slow, but very Michael Mann, '80s kinda pacing, very moody and all that — and then all of a sudden that hotel-room scene happens and you're just, like, 'Holy crap!' and then from there it's just 100 miles an hour. I was blown away with that movie."

IN FLAMES Bassist Interviewed In Phoenix (Audio)
- Nov. 1, 2012
KASC The Blaze 1330 AM (web site) conducted an interview with bassist Peter Iwers of Swedish metallers IN FLAMES on October 30 at Comerica Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona during the band's North American tour with LAMB OF GOD. The chat is now available for streaming using the SoundCloud player below.
Asked if IN FLAMES is already thinking about writing the follow-up to last year's "Sounds Of A Playground Fading" or if the band will continue touring in support of the latest CD, IN FLAMES vocalist Anders Fridén told PureGrainAudio's Mitch Lafon in August, "We'll probably continue touring for whole next year, and then we're gonna think about what we're gonna do. I mean, we already have some stuff in our heads, but the actual writing process is something that we do when we get off the road; we need to focus on that. The thing is that you have so much [free] time, really, when you're on the road, but we can't focus; I don't know what it is with us. There's so many distractions around you. I'd rather go out and have good food and good beer than sit by a computer and record. I do have my own stuff with me — I have a Pro Tools rig, I have a small, little keyboard where I can play… I do that. And I write, basically, for myself, just to keep sane. But, actually, IN FLAMES, musically, we need to relax a little bit and then start thinking about it."
On the topic of whether it's still important for a band like IN FLAMES to make full-length albums as opposed to putting out singles and EPs, Anders said, "For me, it is, definitely. I think about the album format. And I think today, it's actually more important than ever, when it's so easy to just release singles and small snippets of music and it's out there. I think it's important to still have that feeling. Maybe kids growing up today don't have that, but I'm too old school in my thinking — I'm used to that, used to the vinyl. I wasn't that fond of the CD format, because it was so easy to skip music — even though I have, like, one million CDs. But I'm more of the album type of guy."
IN FLAMES' tenth album, "Sounds Of A Playground Fading" (Century Media), sold around 14,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 27 on The Billboard 200 chart.
IN FLAMES' previous CD, "A Sense of Purpose" (Koch) opened with 20,000 units to land at No. 28. This was slightly less than the opening tally of "Come Clarity" (Ferret), which shifted just under 24,000 copies in February 2006 to enter the chart at position No. 58.

SUMERIAN RECORDS Founder Remembers MITCH LUCKER
- Nov. 1, 2012
Sumerian Records founder Ash Avildsen released the following statement regarding the passing of SUICIDE SILENCE singer Mitch Lucker:
"The world lost a great entertainer and star today, but more importantly, an amazing father.
"I had the pleasure of working with Mitch as his agent starting in 2005 before SUICIDE SILENCE was signed to a label or had done a real tour and before I started Sumerian Records. From the first time I met him and saw him perform, I knew he would be a frontman people would love. While he was a rock star, he always had a real sense of class and respect, which is something that isn't as common as it should be with band guys.
"For years, SUICIDE SILENCE was my biggest band. Mitch and I would go on to play crucial roles in each other's careers as I championed them as a main band I fought for and he returned the energy by always speaking highly of me to those around him and thanking me from the stage every time I came to see them play. I'll never forget the look on his face out back of the Showcase Theatre in Corona at the SUICIDE SILENCE holiday show in 2007 when me and his manager, Jerry Clubb, surprised him with the news that he would be going on tour with SLIPKNOT next year for the first-ever Mayhem Festival. it was one of those timeless moments in life that you never forget. It was all of us as a family celebrating the fact that 'we did it' the local Riverside band that so many people in the industry didn't understand or wrote off had just gotten their chance to 'make it' as if your kid got into his dream college.
"There was a brief moment in time when I was going to hang up the booking gloves and transition from being an agent to a manager. It was during this month that I stopped working with SUICIDE SILENCE. However, the friendship and bond that Mitch and I shared was never altered by our professional relationship changing. Every time we were in the same room together, it was as if nothing had changed since the first day we became friends and on the same team. It takes a truly special person to be able to do that and I am very grateful to have known Mitch in the way that I did.
"Mitch always treated his fellow touring bands with respect, which is another thing that isn't as common as it should be these days. Even more importantly, he always treated his fans with the gratitude and appreciation that every artist should. Every time he did a meet-and-greet at Soundcheck Hollywood, I watched him give the honest time of day to each and every fan that wanted to talk to him, get a picture or just shake his hand. He carried himself this same way on the road too, all over the world with his loving fans.
"But now all band stuff aside, above all — Mitch Lucker was an incredible father. He was a true dad to his beautiful daughter Kenadee and loved her with all his heart. To me, this is the worst part of his death. I cannot even imagine how it is for her to go through this. It's a loss no one should have to experience.
"I will be making sure a portion of the proceeds from the Monster Outbreak Tour and California Metalfest that SUICIDE SILENCE was confirmed for will be going to a fund for Kenadee's future.
"Thank you for all the memories, Mitch. Love you, dude. You'll be missed and remembered, forever."

DIO DISCIPLES: Seattle Concert Footage Available
- Nov. 1, 2012
DIO DISCIPLES — the project featuring former DIO members Simon Wright (drums), Craig Goldy (guitar) and Scott Warren (keyboards) — kicked off its North American tour on October 20 at the House Of Blues in Anaheim, California.
Fan-filmed video footage of the third show of the tour, which took place on October 23 at El Corazon in Seattle, Washington, can be seen below.
The group, which pays tribute to legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW, DIO, HEAVEN & HELL) and is fully supported by Dio's widow/manager, Wendy, currently consists of the following musicians:
Commented Goldy: "After Ronnie's passing and a lengthy mourning period, Wendy Dio and the band that was left behind have decided it was time to honor and keep the memory and legacy of Ronnie James Dio alive in the most respectful way possible!
"There is something special that happens when a group of people gather together with the same heart, mind and spirit as one another... and that is what happens every night we (the DIO DISCIPLES) perform! I never know when... but I know that it will happen because it always does... some time during the concert, the audience and the band connect and become as one!
"And with the large speaker system, lights and special performances by past members of AC/DC, JUDAS PRIEST, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN and LYNCH MOB... you don't want to rely on all the crappy little cell phone recordings that look and sound like shit posted on YouTube!
"I've never lied about anything to any DIO fan and I'm not about to start now! Every time we perform there's always several very special moments that just can't be defined into words! You just have to trust me and come experience it for yourselves! And I hope you do!"

Candlelight Vigil For SUICIDE SILENCE Singer To Be Held Tonight
- Nov. 1, 2012
A candlelight vigil for late SUICIDE SILENCE singer Mitch Lucker will be held tonight (Thursday, November 1) at 8 p.m. at Main St. and 12th in Huntington Beach, California. This is open to anyone who would like to stop by and pay their respects.
Lucker died Thursday from injuries he suffered last night when he lost control of his motorcycle in Huntington Beach.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the singer struck a light pole near the intersection of Main and 13th streets and was thrown from his 2013 Harley Davidson. The motorcycle continued sliding south on Main Street and struck a northbound 2007 Nissan Titan pickup.
A month ago, Lucker spoke to Brittany Moseley, associate editor of AltPress.com, about second favorite hobby.
Asked what attracted him to motorcycles, Mitch said, "The danger in it. Being a frontman in a band, you get addicted to adrenaline rushes. When you're onstage, there's not more of a rush. When I get home from touring, I need to find something to match that so I don't get my adrenaline withdrawals. Being exposed to every element of danger while you're sitting on a motor — that, to me, is freedom."
Lucker also said that the was a strong sense of camaraderie among motorcycle riders. "Even if you're just riding on the highway by yourself and someone passes you on a bike going the opposite direction, there's like a 'Hey, what's up?' type of thing that you do no matter who you are," he said. "People in cars don't do that. But motorcycle-to-motorcycle, it's just a common-respect kind of thing. It's kind of a family unit."

DAVE MUSTAINE Slams 'Liberal Media', Says He Has Been 'Severely Misinterpreted By The Press'
- Nov. 1, 2012
Carlos Ramirez of AOL's Noisecreep recently conducted an interview with MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
On being misunderstood by the media:
Mustaine: "One of the problems about MEGADETH is that we've been severely misinterpreted by the press. I'll say something in an interview, and they'll either take what I said completely out of context or they evaluate it based on one sole statement and not the whole idea."
On what he sees as the ultra-liberal media double standard:
Mustaine: "The public doesn't have the time to learn all of what is happening out there. Everyone is busy trying to survive. Who would have ever thought that someone as powerful as Ted Turner would go on the Piers Morgan show the other night and actually say that's it's good that there are American troops committing suicide. Are you kidding me? I was stunned. But it didn't make the media like other things do because Turner is a liberal and he's part of the liberal media and they've squelched it so no one sees it. Whether you're a Republican, Democrat, liberal, or even a communist, you should be outraged about what Turner said. He probably realized he messed up in the interview and said to the folks at CNN, 'Don't cover this or I'll fire you.' He can do that. CNN fired Amber Lyon because she wanted neutral and unbiased reporting."
On Mustaine's belief that much of the media is not interested in covering hard news anymore:
Mustaine: "I remember reading about something when Walter Cronkite was still alive. It was about this news team working in a newsroom. They had just decided that they were no longer going to use a news producer and got a television producer instead. So the television producer says to the room, 'So what do you have for me today? Let's run down the stories.' The reporters then tell him all of their news items, but then he says, 'I know, but what's the story?' He wanted something juicier. When news is turned into some kind of reality-based TV thing, instead of just the facts, we're in trouble."
IRON MAIDEN Bassist Discusses Solo Album, Looks Back On 'The Number Of The Beast'
- Nov. 1, 2012
Matt Wardlaw of Ultimate Classic Rock recently conducted an interview with IRON MAIDEN bassist Steve Harris. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
Ultimate Classic Rock: ["British Lion"] is some of my favorite material that I've heard from you in recent years. Everything feels very natural and it had to be fun, writing, recording and playing this stuff.
Harris: Yeah, well there was no pressure at all. I absolutely love what I do in MAIDEN and enjoy every minute of that too. This is enjoyable in a different way in the sense that I suppose [because] the people that you're working around have not had the [same] sort of success or limelight that I've had, so there's just an earthiness to that and it felt really good.
Ultimate Classic Rock: Despite your concerns about people giving this album a chance, it seems like the overall reception has been pretty positive.
Harris: It's been very positive for the most part. There's been a few people that haven't been so kind to this thing, but it's just a matter of opinion and that's fair enough. But I think these people initially reacted when they very first heard the album when we had an online playback and they were talking about stuff straight away without really having the chance to have it sink in at all. I think some of those people maybe have changed their mind and some of them won't. But it is what it is. Hopefully people will like it but if they don't, well, then they can give it to someone else.
Ultimate Classic Rock: It's been 30 years since [IRON MAIDEN's] "The Number Of The Beast", which was the start of a very important new era for your band. What are your thoughts looking back at that time period?
Harris: Well, it was a scary time period as well, because we'd just changed singers and at the time, it was a very traumatic period for us, worrying about how people would take to the new singer, but take to him they did, in a big way, so we didn't need to be worried! [laughs] But before the album came out, it was very worrying. We knew we had a really strong album and we knew we had a really great singer in Bruce [Dickinson], but you just never know how people are going to react. Lucky enough, everyone liked him and obviously it went on from there.
Ultimate Classic Rock: It's incredible to read that you were working from scratch on that album and had very little material prepared prior to recording. And yet the album completely hit the mark. How did that change your approach to future recording? Was going in cold a good thing?
Harris: Totally, yeah. We didn't have any material. We'd used everything up that we had from the periods before that, [from] before we were signed and the first two albums. The second album, "Killers", there's only three or four totally new songs, the rest of all of the stuff was all from early periods, so the pressure really was on big time. Not only did we have a new singer, but we also had to come up with the goods to come out with a really strong album with completely new material. The weird thing is that all of that material was written in a two- or three-week period, because that's all of the time we had. So that put us under so much pressure, but that dictated the way we've recorded everything since. We thought, "Well, that's the way we work well, under pressure, obviously," so that's what we've done ever since. We've just allowed ourselves a specific time of period to write and that's what we do. So we don't ever write on the road, we just write right there [in the moment] and it's worked well for us ever since.

The CD landed at position No. 2 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
"The Diplomat", the new video from PIG DESTROYER, can be seen below. The clip was directed by Phil Mucci (HIGH ON FIRE, OPETH, KORN).
"Book Burner" was recorded at guitarist Scott Hull's Visceral Sound Studios. Released on October 22 via Relapse Records, the CD features 19 tracks with a return to the band's raw, misanthropic sound. The effort was made available on multiple formats, including CD, deluxe 2xCD, LP, deluxe 2xLP, cassette, digital and an extremely limited ultimate edition dubbed "The Order Of The Godless Swine." Each deluxe edition contains a bonus disc of punk covers and a short story, titled "The Atheist", penned by frontman JR Hayes. CRADLE OF FILTH Frontman Discusses 'The Cradle Genesis' (Video)
- Nov. 1, 2012
A video clip of vocalist Dani "Filth" Davey of British extreme metallers CRADLE OF FILTH discussing what is called "The Cradle Genesis" can be seen below.
CRADLE OF FILTH's tenth studio album, "The Manticore And Other Horrors", was released in North America on October 30 via Nuclear Blast Records.
A mini-site for "The Manticore And Other Horrors"has been launched, featuring album audio, information, gallery, desktop downloads, plus a chance to download the track "For Your Vulgar Delectation" for free.
Recorded in eight weeks at both Springvale and Grindstone studios (where it was also mixed by Scott Atkins), Suffolk, "The Manticore And Other Horrors" is a testament to the longevity of the 'FILTH, as not only does it reek of CRADLE's (feared or revered) brand of delicious metal vamperotica, but this thoroughly modern album places the band firmly in fresh killing fields anew.
"The Manticore And Other Horrors" itself possesses an altogether new atmosphere for the band, incorporating a heavier, faster NWOBBM punk vibe that is both current and cruel, blended with ornate orchestration and the quirky immediateness of 2000's "Midian" opus.
The album's title can be likened to a bestiary, a collection of stories on monsters - personal demons, Chimeras, literary fiends and world-enslaving entities to blame but a few. "Manticore", the ravening title track, is a song about a beautiful mythological horror that comes to be feared as the disfigurehead of foreign occupation in the Indian provinces.
The songs "Illicitus" and "Pallid Reflection" bear the sweet ingredients of vampirism and lycanthropy; the wicked "For Your Vulgar Delectation" and "Frost On Her Pillow" are woven perversely into grim fairy tales, whilst classic, monumental tracks like "The Abhorrent And Siding With The Titans" both extol tentacular Lovecraftian values.

WINTERSUN's 'Time I' Lands On BILLBOARD Chart
- Nov. 1, 2012
"Time I", the long-awaited new album from Finnish epic metallers WINTERSUN, sold nearly 4,000 copies in its first week of release in the United States to land at position No. 109 on The Billboard 200 chart.
According to WINTERSUN mainman Jari Mäenpää, there are several reasons why the band's new effort, "Time" is being released as two separate albums, titled "Time I" and "Time II". He says:
* "All the 80 minutes of material won't fit on a regular CD and we didn't want to cut anything out. * "We want you to be able to hear new material sooner and not wait any longer and we want to go on tour sooner. * "The music is very full and complex, so listening this kind of 'hard listening (not easy listening)' material straight for 80 minutes is a bit too much (even for me). * "Both albums will be approximately. nice 40 min epic packages of fireworks. * "We like the idea of releasing two albums within one year, so the band will stay more visible longer, which is important in these 'modern times.' No more years of silence for us!"
"Time I" track listing:
01. When Time Fades Away 02. Sons Of Winter And Stars I) Rain Of Stars II) Surrounded By Darkness III) Journey Inside A Dream IV) Sons of Winter And Stars 03. Land Of Snow And Sorrow 04. Darkness And Frost 05. Time
"Time II" will be released in 2013.
WINTERSUN is currently headlining this year's edition of the Heidenfest tour. Support on the trek is coming from KORPIKLAANI, VARG, TROLLFEST and KRAMPUS.
WINTERSUN's debut CD was released in September 2004 through Nuclear Blast Records.

MITCH LUCKER: 'I'd Rather Die Riding 95 Than Live A Life Full Of Nothing But Filthy Lies'
- Nov. 1, 2012
SUICIDE SILENCE frontman Mitch Lucker, who died this morning (Thursday, November 1) after sustaining injuries in a motorcycle crash, was an avid rider who made no bones about the fact that he liked to ride fast and hard.
On October 14, Lucker tweeted a photo of himself on his bike with the caption, "Captured last night smashing down the 15 freeway at 2AM. LOL."
In an October 3 tweet, Lucker summed up his life philosophy when he wrote, "I'd rather die riding 95 than live a life full of nothing but filthy lies."
According to The Press-Enterprise, the Orange County coroner's office said Lucker was pronounced dead at 6:17 a.m. Thursday at UCI Medical Center in Orange County.
Lucker was hospitalized after a motorcycle accident shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday.
The 28-year-old singer lived in Huntington Beach but grew up in Riverside, California.
Mitch is survived by his wife, Jolie; 5-year-old daughter, Kenadee; brothers Cliff and Kelton; and his mother, Denise.
In a 2009 interview with Noisecreep, Lucker admitted that being his daughter's primary caregiver presented a conundrum for him whenever he had to leave her for brief spurts to tour the country. "It's the hardest thing I deal with, but what I'm doing is the reason we have a roof over our heads and that I can take care of her," he said at the time. "I hate being gone, but my family couldn't survive without me going on tour. Tons of fathers out there don't want to wake up and go to work, but they have to, in order provide. I don't consider SUICIDE SILENCE work. I just tell her, 'Daddy is going to leave and go play music now!'"

LACUNA COIL previously worked with Saku on the clips for the songs "Spellbound" and "I Won't Tell You", taken from the band's 2009 album "Shallow Life".
LACUNA COIL earlier in the year completed the "Dark Legacy" North American tour. The band's only headlining run in the United States in 2012 featured a set of more than two hours, with material spanning all of LACUNA COIL's albums.
