GEOFF TATE: Barrington Fan-Filmed Video Footage Available
- Nov. 2, 2012
Fan-filmed video footage of QUEENSRŸCHE vocalist Geoff Tate's November 1 solo performance at Penny Road Pub in Barrington, Illinois can be seen below.
Tate, who was fired from QUEENSRŸCHE in June after fronting the group for three decades, will release his second solo album, "Kings & Thieves", on November 6 via InsideOut Music.
Tate issued his first solo CD in 2002 on Sanctuary Records. Self-titled, the LP was a huge departure from the work he had previously done with QUEENSRŸCHE.
On September 2, Tate announced that he was launching his own version of QUEENSRŸCHE with RATT drummer Bobby Blotzer, former QUIET RIOT, OZZY OSBOURNE and WHITESNAKE bassist Rudy Sarzo and former MEGADETH and KING DIAMOND guitarist Glen Drover. Also on board in the new group are returning QUEENSRŸCHE guitarist Kelly Gray — who played with the band from 1998 until 2001 and also produced several of their albums — and keyboardist Randy Gane, who has toured and recorded with QUEENSRŸCHE and Geoff's solo group in the past.

More fan-filmed video footage can be seen below.
GUNS N' ROSES singer Axl Rose told USA Today in a new interview that the band's 2008 album "Chinese Democracy" took so long to complete — 13 years, to be exact — because he was being mentally abused by former members Slash and Duff McKagan during the initial songwriting stage.
Rose explained, "[Slash and McKagan] did more damage to my ability as a writer . . . It beat me down so much. At the time of the ['Use Your Illusion'] tours, Slash and Duff said, 'You're an idiot, you're a loser.' I didn't write for years. I felt I was hindered for a very long time. I was also trying to figure out what I wanted to say, when it's right to be venting and when you're digging a bigger hole. Lyrics on 'Chinese' took a long time."
Rose said that the success of the band's classic 1987 debut, "Appetite For Destruction", was what began to tear the group apart. He explained, "I thought the success of that record would bring everyone together more. It did the exact opposite. They got success and wanted to run in their own directions."
Slash had his own take on what happened in the band, as he told The Pulse Of Radio a while back. "Something with Axl was very insecure and it just kept the band from sort of functioning properly," he said. "Although he was wanting to do things, I never to this day really understand exactly what he was getting at, and because it took so long to ever get anything done, I always attribute it to some sort of fear factor."
On the inevitable question of whether he could ever make peace with his former bandmates, Rose said, "I feel that ball's not in my court. I'm surviving this war, not the one who created this war."
Rose said that the current edition of GUNS, in which he is the sole original member, is writing music for a follow-up to "Chinese Democracy", hinting, "[The next album] will come out sooner."

KIRK HAMMETT Performs METALLICA's 'Trapped Under Ice' With DEATH ANGEL; Video Available
- Nov. 2, 2012
METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett joined DEATH ANGEL on stage last night (Thursday, November 1) at Public Works in San Francisco, California during a launch party for Kirk's book, "Too Much Horror Business - The Kirk Hammett Collection". You can now watch video footage of his performance below. The event also featured "zombies, burlesque dancers, horror face painting, special guests Judgement Day" and DJ sets by Motion Potion and guest MC Nikki Blakk.
According to The Pulse Of Radio, Hammett, who has been collecting items and watching horror movies since he was a child, told Loudwire why he thinks the genre is so popular. He explained, "They're just fun. They're a fun experience. It's not unlike a roller coaster ride, you know? A good horror movie should have peaks and valleys, a good horror movie should move you emotionally, a good horror movie should be exciting to watch and energizing in a weird kind of way . . . horror movies deliver that."
Hammett added, "I've always been attracted to the darker things in life. I was never one to go for light, airy stuff, even as a child. My whole aesthetic has always been one of the darker side. That rings true also in my tastes in music."
Asked to name his favorite horror films, Hammett mentioned movies like 1932's "The Mummy" and a '70s low-budget cheesefest called "Dracula Vs. Frankenstein" before saying, "To me, it's just endless. I think about certain movies and I think, 'Oh, that's my favorite.' Then I think about others and I say, 'No, that's my favorite.' It's so difficult for me."
The book's title is taken from a song by punk legends the MISFITS and Hammett was asked if he spoke with any members of the band about using it. He replied, "I told Glenn [Danzig, singer] that I was making this book when I saw him last December. He seemed all right with it. I think by now if he wasn't all right with it I would've heard something."

WOLFSBANE: New Video Interview Posted Online
- Nov. 2, 2012
On October 25, reunited U.K. rockers WOLFSBANE were interviewed by Planet Mosh TV prior to their concert at the Relentless Garage in London, England. You can now watch the chat below.
WOLFSBANE's new album, "Wolfsbane Save The World", was released earlier this year.
The band — which features former IRON MAIDEN singer Blaze Bayley, guitarist Jase Edwards, bassist Jeff Hateley and drummer Steve Danger — released its first record in 17 years in April 2011. Entitled "Did It For The Money", it contained the brand new title track along with re-recordings of four old WOLFSBANE numbers.
Formed in 1984 in Tamworth, England, WOLFSBANE signed to Def American Records, and Rick Rubin produced the band's first album, "Live Fast, Die Fast", released in 1989. WOLFSBANE's second release, an EP titled "All Hell's Breaking Loose Down", followed in 1990. The band's second studio album, "Down Fall the Good Guys", was released in 1991, giving WOLFSBANE its only U.K. chart entry, with the single "Ezy" landing at No. 68.
After Def American dropped WOLFSBANE, the band released a live album, "Massive Noise Injection", through the Bronze label in 1993. The group's third studio album, the self-titled "Wolfsbane", followed in 1994.
On September 9, 2007, WOLFSBANE reformed for a one-off short set at the Rock of Ages festival in Tamworth. This was followed by their first U.K. tour in 13 years, with the band playing five dates as support for the THE WILDHEARTS in December 2007. Their next tour came in December 2009 supporting THE QUIREBOYS on the aforementioned "A Little Bit of What You Fancy 20th Anniversary Tour".

TRIVIUM Frontman On U.S. Presidential Election: 'Never Before Has The Country Been This Divided
- Nov. 2, 2012
Dennis Rowehl of Entertaim.net magazine conducted an interview with vocalist/guitarist Matt Heafy of Florida metallers TRIVIUM prior to the band's October 28 concert in Cologne, Germany. You can now watch the chat below.
Asked about the upcoming U.S. presidential election, Heafy said, "The trick with America is that it's completely divided. It's so right and so left and there's nothing in the middle ground. So never before has the country been this divided. And it's really upsetting, the fact that people don't really look into either side. People don't really look into what a president truly is 100 percent about; they just look at what the [party affiliation] is. They're like, 'Oh, I'm a Republican, so I'm only gonna vote Republican.' Or, 'I'm a Democrat, so I'm only gonna vote Democrat.' Sometimes the person you're voting for is the person maybe that won't represent you as well or that goes against your belief just out of some kind of underlying need to call yourself something. America is just so obsessed with that. We've got… Look at the airline [industry]. We've got First Class, Premier Business, Business this, Economy Plus, Economy… all these different subsections of class systems that we have, and I feel like it's the same thing with politics. A lot of people in the States rip on Obama for 'You haven't done enough,' but how do you clean up eight years of what just happened in half the amount of time. So it's a really difficult thing for the country. And our fans are divided; it's amazing that they are. I sent in my absentee ballot vote, and I just always hope for the better. It just sucks how divided the U.S. is right now. If we didn't have the Democrat and Republican system and people can just say, 'This is what I'm gonna do for the country. These are my beliefs. Vote for me or not,' I think it would work out a lot better versus people having to cling to the 'Well, I only vote in my party, regardless of what the person says.' I think the country would be in a much better place."
TRIVIUM is currently touring Europe with AS I LAY DYING, CALIBAN and UPON A BURNING BODY.
TRIVIUM's latest album, "In Waves", sold 22,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 13 on The Billboard 200 chart — the highest U.S. chart entry of the band's career.

'One Man Metal' Documentary: Part 3 Posted Online
- Nov. 2, 2012
Black metal has an illustrious heritage, but its story is often told in the wrong ways. Noisey and Vice are proud to present "One Man Metal", a new three-part documentary with three of the most reclusive figures of the black metal scene, Leviathan, Striborg and Xasthur. They exist on the fringes of black metal and rarely have been documented… until now.
In this new documentary, Noisey follows the lives of three enigmatic solo artists — Leviathan, Striborg and Xasthur — producing black metal on the margins of society. These are men who don't just play the music, but embody what it reflects: isolation, misanthropy, and anger.
These were exiles struggling to become human, and when they were ready to share their bleak outlook, they turned to Noisey. Presented in sumptuous black and white, the documentary moves from Chicago, to Los Angeles and Tasmania, interviewing these exceptional musicians, most of whom had never shown their face on camera before.
The documentary includes the first on-camera interview with Scott Connor, a.k.a. Xasthur, who crafts his bleak sounds from a crumbling apartment in the hinterlands of Los Angeles. Vice also explored the remot environs of rural Tasmania with Sin Nanna of STRIBORG, and finally travelled to San Francisco to speak with Jef Whitehead, a.k.a. Leviathan.
Earlier this month, "One Man Metal" saw a full international release, following series of delays leading up to Whitehead's 2011 conviction on one count of aggravated domestic battery.
Despite the richness of the genre, there ore only a handful of definitive pieces on the subject of black metal. "One Man Metal" joins Michael Moynihan's "Lords Of Chaos" and Vice's book and documentary "True Norwegian Black Metal" in that illustrious lineage.
Part 3 can now be seen below.

RIVAL SONS Release 'Sweden Rock Festival' Photo Documentary
- Nov. 2, 2012
California blues rockers RIVAL SONS, who have just wrapped up a headlining European tour, have released a photo documentary from their show at Sweden Rock Festival earlier this year.
RIVAL SONS' triumphant set on June 7 was captured by photographer Patrik Skoglöw and compiled into a visual documentary, accompanied by live audio from the band's performance of their track "On My Way".
RIVAL SONS' new album, "Head Down", was released in Europe on September 17 via Earache Records. The CD, which will be madea available on physical formats in the USA on January 22, 2013, was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee with Grammy-nominated producer Dave Cobb (JAMIE JOHNSON, SHOOTER JENNINGS) and Grammy-wining engineer Vance Powell (JACK WHITE, THE WHITE STRIPES, KINGS OF LEON). The artwork was created by Jason Holley (JOSH RITTER, RAY LAMONTAGNE) and can be seen below.
In a recent interview with Shindig! magazine's hip little sister Happening, RIVAL SONS guitarist Scott Holiday stated about "Head Down", "We toured for over a year straight on the back of 'Pressure & Time', lots of improvisation. Making a lot of shit up on a nightly basis — getting very tuned in. Doing this made us closer to each other, the songs, and our audience. Much more in touch. That said, I think we put together a more live, conversational record (musically) than any of our others. It's our fourth record, technically. We knew where we wanted to fill in the gaps. It's more of a 'long-form record for us, too, which I wanted because that will better reflect the live show. We really got to stretch out, hit some new influences. I definitely got to explore and show a few new tricks in my bag. That's what it's all about though, right? Pushing your personal boundaries. It still sounds very much like a RIVAL SONS record, though. I think it's definitely our best-'sounding' record sonically. And most complete, as far as the concept, songs, artwork. And I will mention it's a double vinyl, which I can really dig, with gatefold cover of a beautiful painting created for us by Jason Holley."

Shooting will take place in December in Los Angeles.
"We are beyond excited to be working with Fabio," says Grossi. "We have all been fans of his work for a long time and feel he is the perfect director to bring 'Psycho, California' to life on screen."
Fabio edited PITBULL's "I Know You Want Me", which ended up being the No. 1 music video of 2009 on YouTube, with over a 190 million views to date, making it one of the most-watched YouTube video of all time. He is currently managing the band COYOTE THEORY.
HOTEL DIABLO's "The Return To Psycho, California" was released in September via Scarlet Records. "The Return To Psycho, California" is also available digitally via iTunes, Amazon and other online music retailers.
Guitarist Alex Hellid of Swedish metal veterans ENTOMBED is recovering after undergoing "a major operation which thankfully went very well," according to a posting on the band's Facebook page. He is now "looking forward" to continuing to work with the new ENTOMBED album, which is expected sometime next year.
Threeman Recordings, which is owned and run by members of ENTOMBED, recently launched a new collaboration with Ninetone Records. The first release under this arrangement was a single for the re-recorded version of the song "Amok" from ENTOMBED's 2007 album, "Serpent Saints - The Ten Amendments", produced by Patrik Frisk (CORRODED).
"Serpent Saints - The Ten Amendments" was released in the U.S. on July 31, 2007 via Candlelight/Threeman Recordings. The 10-song effort marked the group's first release with drummer Olle Dahlstedt (ALPHA SAFARI, ex-MISERY LOVES CO.), who replaced Peter Stjärnvind in 2006. Mastering duties were handled by Soren Elofsson at Cosmos Mastering in Stockholm, Sweden.
"Serpent Saints - The Ten Amendments" entered the Swedish national chart at position No. 3. This was the highest chart position in the band's career.
The current lineup of ENTOMBED features Victor Brandt (TOTALT JÄVLA MÖRKER, AEON, SATYRICON) and second guitarist Nico Elgstrand (who previously played bass for the group).

EUROPE Frontman Talks About The Making Of 'The Final Countdown' Song In New Video Interview
- Nov. 2, 2012
Vocalist Joey Tempest of Swedish hard rockers EUROPE spoke about the creation of the band's mega-hit "The Final Countdown" during an appearance on BBC 1 television's "The One Show". You can now watch the segment below.
Tempest earlier in the year admitted to Classic Rock magazine that he and his badmates have thought about dropping all of their older material from their live set to concentrate solely on songs from the last five studio albums since their reunion in 2003.
"We have seriously talked about it," Tempest told Classic Rock, "and yes, it would include leaving out 'The Final Countdown'. But right now, we don't feel it's the right thing to do. Fans come along to shows expecting to hear certain old favorites, and they wouldn't be happy if we did this. But it is something we could certainly do in the future."
"The Final Countdown" was the first single released from EUROPE's third studio album, "The Final Countdown", in 1986. The band's most recognizable and popular song, it reached No. 1 in 25 countries, including the United Kingdom. In the United States the song peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and 18 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The single was certified gold in the United Kingdom in 1986.
EUROPE's ninth studio album, "Bag Of Bones", was released on April 27 via earMusic/Edel. The CD, which features a guest appearance by blues-rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa (BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION), was produced by Kevin Shirley, who has previously worked with IRON MAIDEN, JOE BONAMASSA, BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION, BLACK STONE CHERRY and JOURNEY, among others.

GOJIRA Frontman: Labels Are Reinventing Their Jobs Because They Don't Sell Records Anymore
- Nov. 2, 2012
Niclas Müller-Hansen of Sweden's Metalshrine recently conducted an interview with guitarist/vocalist Joseph Duplantier of French progressive metallers GOJIRA. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
Metalshrine: How do you take care of your voice? It's such an important part of your performance.
Joseph Duplantier: I'm supposed to sleep a lot and drink a lot of water, but instead I don't drink water and I don't sleep, so, of course, it doesn't help. I'm hyperactive or a special kind of hyperactive. I'm not all over the place, but I can't sleep. Especially after a full day of work. I sneak out to the stage all the time to check and the guys go, "Dude, relax! Go to the dressing room!" And then we play the show and I can't go to bed right after that. We film the show and I watch the show with the light guy, and then I need one or two hours to do other stuff, so I never sleep, and that's a problem. But the tour's been going great. We started in Moscow a couple of days ago and Russia is fucked up! It's incredible. We were stuck at the border for 10 hours on our way out, which is surprising. You would think that going out was no problem, but it was. We were very, very late and we thought we were gonna have to cancel the show in Finland. We arrived when the doors opened, so the audience was waiting outside in line in the cold and they saw the bus coming, "What the fuck! You're coming now? You should be warmed up and ready to go." The crew worked hard but we forgot about some of the production we have, but the show was incredible.
Metalshrine: You're doing your own headlining tour in the U.S. and Canada with Devin Townsend. A package like that, does that come from you or is it the record company coming up with the idea?
Joseph Duplantier: We had to fight for it. We talked to Devin last summer at a festival and it was like, "We should play together. My fans always talk about you and you're fans talk about me. Let's do something." I told him, "We need to headline." And I would never imagine Devin opening for us, but he went "Dude, I'll open for you guys." It came from the connection and the friendship that we have and mutual respect. He's stoked. The label had other ideas, but it's great. We never had such a powerful opener.
Metalshrine: Are there a lot of business talk behind such a thing? That his crowd might draw so and so many and you so and so?
Joseph Duplantier: Yeah. Actually, it didn't really fit with the business thinking and that's why I said we had to fight for him. Everybody respects him to death; the record company, management, the sponsors. Everybody was like "Yeah, Devin, man! But wait, you have the same crowd!" So it wasn't exactly the best solution for the partners, but oh my god, the experience, the inspiration is the best definitely, so, finally, they went "Alright, let's do it!". If you don't say anything as a musician, everybody will go, "OK, we're going with this, because his manager knows this manager and so on." You have to fight for things sometimes, and that's probably why we're a bit tired sometimes, because we try to face each problem and be present everywhere. Like right now, I would be on stage checking stuff like, "The gaffa tape should be like this!". (laughs)
Metalshrine: I talked to a member of a Swedish band, BULLET, recently and they've made a name for themselves but they're still a small band, but he said that there are so many meetings with the label and managers and stuff, it felt like a regular job. Is there a lot of that stuff?
Joseph Duplantier: Yeah a lot of that and it's more and more complicated. This business is very complicated. All the record companies and even managements are reinventing their jobs because they don't sell records anymore. Take any business and divide it by 10 when it comes to income. It's a mess, so everybody's trying to reinvent it. The record companies are trying to be publishers and the management tries to sell merchandise and they do everything at the same time, so they ask a lot of the bands because they can't do their job properly. They have to do 10 jobs in order to multiply with 10 incomes plus they have to fire people all the time and get new ones to be able to adapt to all these new mechanisms, so it's very, very complicated and very tiring and very far from music, really. You have to be strong and know what you want. Be flexible.
Metalshrine: Sea Shepherd, in some countries they're considered eco terrorists and stuff like that. Do you think that you sometimes have to use certain methods to get across to people?
Joseph Duplantier: Yeah, it's a good question. I think in that case, yes. I'm against violence and aggression and I like to promote communication instead. In that case, when someone is getting killed in front of you and you don't do something to stop it, you're killing it a little bit. For example, we have a few whales left on this planet. Some people go and kill them and there are treaties and laws that like a 100 countries have signed. There's a small window in it that allows to take a whale a year for science, but instead they go every year and take 300 whales when there's just a couple of 1000 left. In that particular case, I think stopping them without hurting them is good. I don't think they hurt anyone. Maybe they will cause damage. I would like to be in a boat and fucking destroy their boat, even though I'm a pacifist. I think it's a little reductive to call them terrorists. No one will blame the police when they stop terrorists from killing people. It's a bit complex and in a perfect world you don't need to use violence, but it's not a perfect world. Far from it.
TERRORIZER/Ex-MORBID ANGEL Drummer PETE SANDOVAL: 'My Recovery Is Almost 100%'
- Nov. 2, 2012
Drummer Pedro "Pete" Sandoval (MORBID ANGEL, TERRORIZER) has released the following statement:
"Just wanted to tell you that my recovery [after a 2010 back surgery] is almost 100%. I'm able to play drums, but I don't want to push it doing a tour just yet. However, I am working with Wolf [a.k.a. Anthony Rezhawk; vocals] and Kat [Katina Culture, guitar] on new songs for a new TERRORIZER album, and I'm also recording drums for two RESISTANT CULTURE tracks that will be featured on their upcoming full-length release. Keep an eye out for it, it'll destroy!!!!"
A preview clip from Sandoval's forthcoming DVD can be seen below. The disc will contain great features such as angle view selection or multi audio (drums only, with music). The song played in the clip is "Generation Chaos" from TERRORIZER's new album "Hordes Of Zombies", which released this past March via the French label Season Of Mist.
In a November 21, 2011 interview with Metal Storm, MORBID ANGEL bassist/vocalist David Vincent was asked if the band's current touring and recording drummer, Tim Yeung, is now a permanent member of the group. "Permanent is an interesting word," Vincent replied. "When we got Tim to do [the latest MORBID ANGEL album, 'Illud Divinum Insanus'] — everybody knows what the story is on that — it was to do the record and to do the subsequent touring for the record. So that's what I'm prepared to discuss this evening. Tim is a very capable drummer, a very talented fellow. He's a good friend, and I feel very pleased that his schedule worked out, as such, that he could do this, 'cause we're having a good time."
During a chat with Brazil's Som Extremo in October 2011, Sandoval was asked for his opinion about MORBID ANGEL's "controversial" new CD, "Illud Divinum Insanus", which incorporates industrial and electronic elements into the band's traditional death metal sound. "No comment! I don't play on that album." He was then questioned about what he thought he would have done different on "Illud Divinum Insanus" had he played on the record. "More exreme deathgrind metal and less DJ, boring awful typical I care less industrial experimental same as everybody boring bull!" he said. "This is not what MORBID has been all about! ...Hmmmmmm, and I really care less...!"

ARCH ENEMY: South American, Mexican Shows To Be Filmed For Upcoming DVD
- Nov. 2, 2012
Swedish/German extreme metallers ARCH ENEMY are ready to promote their latest album, "Khaos Legions", in Mexico and South America and are giving their fans a chance to be part of an exciting project.
Comments the band: "Big news for our upcoming South America tour! We will be documenting the entire tour for the next official ARCH ENEMY DVD (to be released in 2013)! We are bringing along the team from Filmefahrer Pictures (who also shot the Cologne, Germany 2012 show) to film the shows, do interviews with the band members, shoot backstage footage, fans and incidentals during the entire run of the tour.
"We are so excited to come back to Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico as well as discovering new places like Uruguay, Peru and Costa Rica that we simply must immortalize this experience — and the crazy fans we’ll meet along the way!
"Additionally, we will have the team from Abysmo filming the Chile show in HD with several cameras. We are also looking into recording the Mexico show with a local film team there.
"Stay tuned and come to the shows, if you want to be a part of our next DVD (and Blue-ray) extravaganza!"
ARCH ENEMY's ninth album, "Khaos Legions", sold around 6,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to enter The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 78.
The band earlier in the year amicably parted ways with guitarist Christopher Amott and replaced him with American musician Nick Cordle (ARSIS).

HELLOWEEN: More 'Straight Out Of Hell' Details Revealed
- Nov. 2, 2012
German power metallers HELLOWEEN will release their new album, "Straight Out Of Hell", in Europe on January 18 and in North America on January 22, 2013.
HELLOWEEN recently completed work on the video for the CD's first single. The six-minute opus "Nabataea" develops on several levels, including 3-D animation at motion picture level. The legendary kingdom Nabataea provides the atmospherically dense reference for the strong first release from HELLOWEEN's new album.
Do we really have to worry? Is our civilization standing right on the edge of the abyss? Is the Maya calendar actually right, predicting the end of the world on December 21, 2012? New age circles are convinced that the apocalyptic prophecy can be derived from the Mesoamerican civilization's calendar.
"Complete bullshit," reckons HELLOWEEN singer Andi Deris. "We will all survive the year 2012 and face an even more positive and energetic future."
HELLOWEEN have documented how this future could look like, or rather sound like, on "Straight Out Of Hell". It's a work full of speed and toughness, with optimism and great joy of playing, featuring complex arrangements, strong hooks and plenty of catchy melodies. Or, to let the facts speak for themself: 13 mostly fast-paced songs that turn out to be impressively multi-layered and will completely delight all HELLOWEEN fans, due to the different songwriters Andi Deris, founding members Michael Weikath and Markus Grosskopf, and guitarist Sascha Gerstner.
Says Weikath: "'Straight Out Of Hell' is the consequent development of the two albums before. '7 Sinners' was recorded more or less in the wake of 'Gambling With The Devil', while the new songs are a continuation of the '7 Sinners' directives, only a little less doom bound and noticeably more positive. These songs will kick even the laziest listener's ass."
HELLOWEEN's guitarist is referring to tracks such as "Make Fire Catch The Fly", "Far From the Stars", "Church Breaks Down", the title track (written by bass player Markus Grosskopf), and the straightforward "Years" — all of them racing through the terrain a =t full speed. In addition, there is the complex and passionate "Burning Sun" by Michael Weikath, which Deris refers to short and sweet as "one of Weikath's highspeed masterpieces" (the limited edition will feature a special Hammond version in memory of DEEP PURPLE's recently deceased organ player Jon Lord). "World Of War" by Sascha Gerstner convinces with thrashy guitar riffs, demonstrating HELLOWEEN's impressive virtuosity.
Says Deris: "What's so special about this band, is the fact that we were always allowed to do anything we wanted, or — even if we allegedly weren't — did it anyway. Even the at the time slightly tabooed 'The Dark Ride' initially earned us negative reviews, but ended up with multiple gold awards. That's the kind of freedom you feel on 'Straight Out Of Hell' as well — we didn't let anybody or anything put pressure on us."
But HELLOWEEN wouldn't be HELLOWEEN if "Straight Out Of Hell" would not feature the band's other, slightly more groovy side as well. With "Waiting For The Thunder" Deris has — in his own words — contributed "a rock song reminding of the old PINK CREAM 69 tunes." Gerstner lets off steam on "Asshole" and complements the album with "Hold Me In Your Arms", a wonderful ballad, providing the desired antithesis to the otherwise extremely energetic record. Speaking of energy: the determination that has always been an integral part of the HELLOWEEN camp was captured perfectly by their producer Charlie Bauerfeind at the band's own MiSueno studio in Tenerife. Bauerfeind consciously created a raw sound, keeping the edge of HELLOWEEN's new songs and working without computer-controlled devices.
"With a world-class drummer like Dani Löble in the studio, you don't need click tracks or computer support," Markus Grosskopf praises his drummer. "Thanks to Dani, the whole album breathes pure authenticity, which distinguishes 'Straight Out Of Hell' from lots of other artists' productions. In addition, the new album sounds more compact and homogeneous than '7 Sinners' has, and is one of the fastest releases in HELLOWEEN's history."
Also, there are significant differences in a number of topics HELLOWEEN tackle on "Straight Out Of Hell". The best example of the ability to think outside the box of pure metal cliché is their first single release 'Nabataea', which HELLOWEEN's singer wrote during a holiday. The song is about the legendary kingdom, located in today's Middle Eastern region, where the first real democracy existed over 3000 years ago. The secret Nabataean city Petra, hidden behind a cliff scenery and only discovered at the beginning of the 20th century, is the origin of many myths and legends.
Says Deris: "We took the liberty to tell this exciting culture's whole story, although the song therefore lasts more than seven minutes. Truth be told, if there had been more to tell, the track would have been even longer."
"Straight Out Of Hell" track listing:
01. Nabataea 02. World Of War 03. Live Now! 04. Far From The Stars 05. Burning Sun 06. Waiting For The Thunder 07. Hold Me In Your Arms 08. Wanna Be God 09. Straight Out Of Hell 10. Asshole 11. Years 12. Make Fire Catch The Fly 13. Church Breaks Down
Limited-edition bonus tracks:
14. Another Shot Of Life 15. Burning Sun (Hammond version; dedicated to Jon Lord)
On the live front, meanwhile, HELLOWEEN (fresh from appearing at prestigious Japanese festival Loud Park) will be returning to the road in March 2013 — the first part of a world tour set to kick off in mainland Europe, with GAMMA RAY as special guests. The follow-up to the "Hellish Rock" tour of 2007/2008, this extended outing ("Hellish Rock Part II") will bring the band to the U.K. on April 16 for a one-off date at the London Forum.

MITCH LUCKER's Wife: I Begged Him Not To Leave The House (Video)
- Nov. 2, 2012
Mitch Lucker's wife says that she begged the SUICIDE SILENCE frontman not to leave the house before he got on his motorcycle and lost his life in a Southern California road accident.
Lucker was riding his black 2013 Harley-Davidson south on Main Street in Huntington Beach about 8:55 p.m. Wednesday when he hit a light pole near the intersection of 13th Street. The motorcycle continued sliding south on Main Street and struck a northbound 2007 Nissan Titan pickup.
Lucker was seriously injured and was treated at the scene by paramedics. He died shortly after 6 a.m. on Thursday at UC Irvine Medical Center.
"He was an alcoholic, and it's a been a big battle," Jolie Carmadella said at last night's candlelight vigil at the crash site, which was attended by 300-400 fans, friends and family members (see video below). "I tried to stop him. I was in front of him begging him not to leave the house. Begging him. 'Just seriously, for us, don't leave.' And he did. And this is what happened.
"It's a wake-up call."
She continued, "He was an amazing man. He was a wonderful father and a great husband. And now he's gonna miss out on watching [his five-year-old daughter] Kenadee grow, because he decided to drink and ride.
"Just don't. Just think before you guys do something stupid. Please learn from this. Please."
The surviving members of SUICIDE SILENCE posted a statement on their Facebook page Thursday morning reading, "There's no easy way to say this. Mitch passed away earlier this morning from injuries sustained during a motorcycle accident. This is completely devastating to all of us and we offer our deepest condolences to his family. He will be forever in our hearts."
SUICIDE SILENCE has released three albums — 2007's "The Cleansing", 2009's "No Time to Bleed" and last year's "The Black Crown".

Deluxe LED ZEPPELIN Reissues Confirmed For 2013
- Nov. 2, 2012
According to The Pulse Of Radio, Jimmy Page confirmed that he's remastering all nine LED ZEPPELIN albums, with each set being readied as deluxe, expanded editions featuring, "extra music and bonus material." Page, who produced all of LED ZEPPELIN's live and studio albums, has served as the band's chief archivist and personally oversaw the remastering of the band's catalogue back in the nearly '90s.
In Page's new interview with Mojo magazine, he explained, "There are a number of LED ZEPPELIN projects that will come out next year because there are different versions of tracks that we have that can be added to the album so there will be box sets of material that will come out, starting next year. There will be one box set per album with extra music that will surface."
There has been no release date set for the box sets and it's not known whether the albums will be released at once or staggered, as was done by PINK FLOYD for their deluxe "Immersion" collections.
Coming on November 19 will be LED ZEPPELIN's new live collection, "Celebration Day", which was recorded and filmed at ZEPPELIN's December 10, 2007 reunion show at London's O2 Arena. The concert film will be released on CD, DVD, Blu-ray disc through Swan Song/Atlantic Records.

INCANTATION: New Song Available For Streaming
- Nov. 2, 2012
"Vanquish in Vengeance", the title track of the new conceptual album from Pennsylvania-based extreme metallers INCANTATION, can be streamed in the YouTube clip below. Due on November 26 via Listenable Records, the long-awaited followup to 2006's "Primordial Decimation" carries a recurring lyrical theme that addresses the countless acts of genocide in the name of religion throughout our history.
"Vanquish In Vengeance" was recorded at Mars Studio with Bill Korecky and was mixed by Dan Swanö at Unisound Studios. Cover art comes courtesy of Worthless.
Commented INCANATATION mainman John McEntee: "The title track is about the massacre of Saxons in the town of Verdun in 782, called on by order of King Charlemagne.
"As an album title, it has a different meaning to me. 'Vanquish In Vengeance' symbolizes the long history of the band. We have fought many battles over the years to keep things going. We have always stayed true to our original vision and have never caved into trends. After a long wait between albums we are back with a vengeance with some of our darkest and heaviest material to date."
"Vanquish in Vengeance" track listing:
01. Invoked Infinity 02. Ascend into the Eternal 03. Progeny of Tyranny 04. Transcend into Absolute Dissolution 05. Haruspex 06. Vanquish In Vengeance 07. Profound Loathing 08. The Hellions Genesis 09. From Hollow Sands 10. Legion of Dis
"Vanquish In Vengeance" will also be available in a limited edition box featuring a flag and an exclusive metal pin.
Although based in Pennsylvania, INCANTATION has enjoyed a 23-year musical career as one of the leaders the New York death metal scene along with SUFFOCATION, IMMOLATION and MORTICIAN.
INCANTATION and Listenable Records' working relationship resulted in "Decimate Christendom" (2004) and "Primordial Domination" (2006) albums.

DOOGIE WHITE Sets Record Straight Regarding His Departure From RAINBOW
- Nov. 2, 2012
Renowned Scottish singer Doogie White (pictured below), who has worked with such bands as RAINBOW, CORNERSTONE, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, MIDNIGHT BLUE, PRAYING MANTIS and TANK, has released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:
"In the 16 years or so since I left RAINBOW, I have never spoken publicly about my reasons for leaving. The truth is that I don't believe it's anyone's business but Ritchie's [Blackmore, RAINBOW guitarist/mainman] and mine.
"It was therefore with some interest (and a raised eyebrow or two) that I listened to the [October 27] interview given by Candy [Ritchie's wife and BLACKMORE'S NIGHT bandmate Candice Night] on WRCN [hear audio below; Candice's story begins around the 19-minute mark]. I have to say that her version of events came as a surprise to say the least.
"While I am not named specifically, it is implied that I was party to a move within the band to hold Ritchie to some kind of financial ransom at what turned out to be our final show.
"That show was in Denmark, at Esbjerg, not Sweden Rock as Candy said in the interview, and I recall it rather well. Who wouldn't, given what followed!
"I remember the night before that final concert when Ritchie, Cozy Powell [drums] and I sat drinking red wine, sharing tales and having a great time. If anyone had told me then that the very next night RAINBOW would be no more, I would never have believed them. We played football together the next day, as usual, and all was well between Ritchie and me, as far as I knew.
"I cannot and do not speak for any of my former band mates, that is for them to do so, should they wish.
"For my part, though, at no point did I ever ask Ritchie, his management, or anyone else connected with RAINBOW for more money. The notion that I was in a position of sufficient power to 'blackmail' Ritchie is pretty funny anyway. It was RITCHIE BLACKMORE'S RAINBOW after all.
"Of the future of RAINBOW at that time, Ritchie and I had talked of a new album at the end of the U.S. tour in '97. That would come, I was told, after he had 'finished with Candy's album.' I actually took five song ideas to Esbjerg and gave him the tapes. You can find most of them on the CORNERSTONE album 'Human Stain'.
"I remember very clearly the conversation Ritchie and I had outside his dressing room that night after the show, and I remember the reasons why I did not sign that hastily reworked contract there and then. Those reasons are as valid today as they were on my return to London after the show (I returned to London on my own incidentally and did not, as has been suggested in the same interview, arrive at the plane the next day drunk with another band member). Those reasons are between Ritchie and I, they have remained private for many years, and they will remain so for many more, despite this silliness.
"For the record, Ritchie always treated me fairly. I got paid what I was contracted to get paid; whether it was publishing, performance fees or merchandise payments and I never had any issues or problems with him.
"I always appreciated that he gave me a big opportunity and took a chance on me. In return I gave him, RAINBOW and the fans my very best.
"Even after I had left the band, there were a few occasions when Ritchie stepped in on my behalf when the new 'management' would not/could not help on certain matters. I am grateful to him for that.
"The only thing I wanted more of from Ritchie was time: more time to make great music with him.
"For what it's worth I believe that the reason RAINBOW did not, has not and will not continue is because Ritchie wants to do something else... BLACKMORE'S NIGHT.
"He seems happy with what he is doing. I am happy with what I am doing. I wish him well and I hope that he wishes me the same.
"Neither I nor Ritchie will lose any sleep over this. And neither should you."

OZZFEST JAPAN: More Details Revealed
- Nov. 2, 2012
Sharon Osbourne, in partnership with Japanese promoter Hayashi International Promotion (H.I.P.), recently confirmed the first-ever Ozzfest Japan. The two-day festival will debut Saturday, May 11 and Sunday, May 12, 2013 at the Makuhari Messe Arena, just outside of Tokyo, and will feature headlining performances from BLACK SABBATH — featuring Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi — and SLIPKNOT.
"We are excited for the opportunity to bring Ozzfest to Japan for the first time ever," says Sharon Osbourne. “We've got the perfect combination of Western and Japanese bands. Ozzfest is also thrilled to be presenting BLACK SABBATH's first-ever performance in Japan."
The inaugural Ozzfest Japan lineup will be co-headlined by Grammy Award-winning multi-platinum rockers SLIPKNOT, who last performed in Japan in 2008. The remaining acts on the festival's lineup will be revealed later this year, and according to organizers it will feature performances from a dynamic mix of international and domestic bands with the goal of establishing Ozzfest Japan as the leader in the Japanese rock festival market.
Despite Japan reigning as the second largest music market in the world, Ozzfest Japan 2013 will represent the first major international music festival to ever travel to the country.
"We are thrilled to open a new chapter for this legendary festival in Japan," H.I.P. President Massy Hayashi says of the significance of bringing Ozzfest to Japan. "I think it will be the perfect chance to bring together the very best international rock music and also give us a chance to show how far Japanese rock has come in recent years."
As of November 1, ticket prices are as follows: single-day tickets are JPY 14,000, weekend passes are JPY 27,000, weekend passes including an official festival t-shirt are JPY 30,000. All prices include consumption tax, box office commission and ticket printing fees.
Ozzfest, which began in 1996, has not been a traveling festival since 2007's "free" edition. The show morphed into a one-off event in Dallas in 2008, also featuring METALLICA, before taking 2009 off.
The 2010 U.S. Ozzfest played in just six cities, with OZZY OSBOURNE co-headlining with MÖTLEY CRÜE and the rest of the main stage filled out by HALFORD, the solo band of JUDAS PRIEST singer Rob Halford, along with DEVILDRIVER and NONPOINT.
The aging festival faced increased competition in recent years from the annual Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem tour, as well as the Uproar festival.

RANDY BLYTHE's Illness Forces LAMB OF GOD's Las Vegas Concert Cancelation
- Nov. 2, 2012
LAMB OF GOD was forced to cancel its performance at the House Of Blues in Las Vegas, Nevada last night (Thursday, November 1) after the band's lead singer, Randy Blythe, was taken ill.
After support act IN FLAMES played an extended set, the members of LAMB OF GOD minus Randy walked out onto the stage (see video below) and apologized to the crowd, explaining that the show was being rescheduled for December 12 and that the tickets will still be valid.
Blythe was released from a prison in Prague on August 2, more than a month after he was arrested and incarcerated. Blythe was facing the possibility of conviction and a long-term jail sentence after a 2010 incident in which a fan attending a LAMB OF GOD show died almost a month later, allegedly from injuries sustained when he was thrown off the stage. Blythe's predicament galvanized the heavy rock community, with artists across the hard rock genre pledging their support.
Interviewed by a Czech media outlet before boarding the plane to go home, Blythe said, "I'm relieved to be out of jail but if it's necessary for me to return to Prague to go to this court thing, I certainly will, I'm no flight risk."
Blythe added that he had no memory at all of the incident in question, saying, "I feel very bad that a fan of my band is dead and his family has to go through it, it's terrible, I feel awful for them but it's a tragic coincidence . . . we had no knowledge whatsoever that someone had been injured much less died."
The case is expected to be heard in court in January.

Video: Friends, Fans And Family Pay Tribute To Fallen SUICIDE SILENCE Singer
- Nov. 2, 2012
Friends of SUICIDE SILENCE singer Mitch Lucker gathered last night (Thursday, November 1) in Riverside, California, where the 28-year-old grew up, to celebrate the life of the musician who died of injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash the day before. A separate vigil was held at the crash site in Huntington Beach that was attended by fans as well as some of Mitch's family members, including his wife of two years, Jolie, and his five-year-old daughter, Kenadee. Check out video footage below.
Lucker was riding his black 2013 Harley-Davidson south on Main Street about 8:55 p.m. Wednesday when he hit a light pole near the intersection of 13th Street. The motorcycle continued sliding south on Main Street and struck a northbound 2007 Nissan Titan pickup.
Lucker was seriously injured and was treated at the scene by paramedics. He died shortly after 6 a.m. at UC Irvine Medical Center.
According to his wife, the singer made a choice Halloween night to drink and ride.
Jolie Carmadella said she didn't know why her husband left home Wednesday night and didn't know where he was headed, but she did reveal that she found some empty containers at home.
Asked what message she had for SUICIDE SILENCE's fans in the wake of the musician's death, Carmadella said, "Just make the right choice. Don't hurt your family. Don't drink and drive."
Asked what attracted him to motorcycles, Mitch told AltPress.com in an interview last month, "The danger in it. Being a frontman in a band, you get addicted to adrenaline rushes. When you're onstage, there's not more of a rush. When I get home from touring, I need to find something to match that so I don't get my adrenaline withdrawals. Being exposed to every element of danger while you're sitting on a motor — that, to me, is freedom."
SUICIDE SILENCE recently inked a deal with Nuclear Blast Entertainment, the new division of Nuclear Blast formed by Nuclear Blast owner Markus Staiger and former Roadrunner A&R chief Monte Conner.
The band has released three albums so far — 2007's "The Cleansing", 2009's "No Time to Bleed" and last year's "The Black Crown".
