METALLICA Drummer Checks In From 'Orion Music + More' Festival (Video)
- June 24, 2012
METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich has recorded a three-minute video message from the second day of the the band's two-day festival Orion Music + More, which kicked off last night (Saturday, June 23) at the popular Atlantic City, New Jersey concert venue Bader Feld. Check it out below. Also available is an interview CBS Local conducted with METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich at the event.
Orion Music + More features multiple live music stages plus a lifestyle element that reflects each of METALLICA's bandmembers' many personal interests. METALLICA is headlining both nights of Orion Music + More and played "Ride The Lightning" in its entirety the first day and "The Black Album" in its entirety one night the second. This will be the only time the band will perform these albums in North America in 2012.
Ulrich told The Pulse Of Radio that he's curious to see how the festival goes over. "I feel that this will work," he said. "I know I'm gonna have a great time. [laughs] Whether anybody else thinks it's gonna work, you know, we'll find out. And if it does work, obviously we would love to bring it back to the southern Jersey Shore every year. I think it has a shot at working, and if it does, then we would love to just keep making it cooler and cooler every year."
On the topic of the diversity the Orion Music + More bill, Ulrich told RollingStone.com, "I always think that our fans are as open-minded as I am, as METALLICA is, and sometimes in the past we've been proven wrong. And that's OK, I'm not going to sit and tell people what they should or shouldn't embrace. I don't walk around and think they're all METALLICA fans, I think they're all festival fans, music fans, people out for the experience. I hope our fans are going to be open and supportive of everybody that's here, and if they're not, I'm going to find them and kick their ass."

BLAZE BAYLEY Interviewed By 'The Metal Voice' (Video)
- June 24, 2012
The Metal Voice recently conducted an interview with British heavy metal vocalist Blaze Bayley (IRON MAIDEN, WOLFSBANE). Blaze talks about his new solo album, "The King Of Metal"; his future tour plans and his struggles with depression. You can now watch the 20-minute chat below.
Bayley's new studio album, "The King Of Metal", was released in March. The CD was recorded at Fear Studio in Ravenna, Italy.
In a recent interview with Metal Blast, Bayley stated about "The King of Metal", "This album is a bit more back towards my classic metal style; it's closer to the 'Silicon Messiah' and 'Tenth Dimension' albums. Although I didn't plan it that way, this is how it has worked out. . . I've been working very closely with a young guitar player called Thomas Zwijsen, who has co-written most of the songs, and it has worked very well. Now, the title track, 'The King Of Metal', is dedicated to the fans, because they are the real kings of metal. Without the fans, there's no heavy metal, and I think that people trivialize that and even disrespect heavy metal fans, compared to fans of pop or jazz. I've called the album 'The King Of Metal' as a tribute to heavy metal fans, thanks to whom it has been possible for me to have such a wonderful career and spend my life as a professional singer."
When asked about the recording process for "The King Of Metal", Blaze recently told Metal Shock Finland, "I don't like to spend a lot of time in the studio, I don't feel it's a very creative environment. I like to spend most of my time on an album in the writing process and the composing. I feel that's the bit that really counts. I'm always thinking of the audience, the fans and how I'm going to perform the songs live."

SEBASTIAN BACH 'Loses' Microphone During Opening Song Of GODS OF METAL Set (Video)
- June 24, 2012
Former SKID ROW singer Sebastian Bach "lost" his microphone while spinning it around in the air during the opening song of his band's performance on June 22 at this year's Gods Of Metal festival in Milan, Italy. Bach and his band briefly stopped the show while his microphone was getting fixed and restarted the set a few minutes later. You can now watch fan-filmed video footage of both takes of the "Slave To The Grind" track below.
Bach earlier in the month released a video for the song "I'm Alive". The clip is one of three videos (alongside "Kicking & Screaming" and "TunnelVision") that the singer filmed on June 28, 2011 in Hollywood, California with director Devin DeHaven of Fortress Entertainment (PAPA ROACH, WHITESNAKE, METHOD MAN, TALIB KWELI).
"I'm Alive" comes off Bach's new album, "Kicking & Screaming", which sold 6,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 73 on The Billboard 200 chart. The singer's previous CD, "Angel Down", opened with 6,400 units back in November 2007 to debut at No. 190.

Original AC/DC Singer DAVE EVANS: New Video Interview Posted Online
- June 24, 2012
GetYourRockOut conducted an interview with interview with original AC/DC singer Dave Evans on June 22 at the Towler in Bury during his U.K. tour. You can now watch the chat below. Dave's band, the UK BADDASSES, this time features brothers Chris and Luke Appleton (both from Dave's labelmates FURY UK) on guitar and bass, Martin McNee (FURY UK) on drums and Tom Atkinson (VICE) on guitar.
Evans was a member of AC/DC from the band's inception in 1973 until 1974. Following his departure from AC/DC, Dave Evans formed the wild hedonistic rock band RABBIT, Melbourne '80s rock outfit DAVE EVANS AND THUNDER DOWN UNDER, and lastly DAVE EVANS AND HOT COCKEREL. Dave Evans has also toured as a solo act, and in 2008 released "Judgement Day" through MGM.
Evans claimed last year that he was dropped from the "Long Live Bon Scott" series of tribute concerts because of pressure from the family of late AC/DC frontman Bon Scott.
"To me it is an insult," Dave told Undercover. "Bon would be rolling in his grave."
He added, "I never had a problem with Bon. He had an opportunity to take my place and become the singer for AC/DC. I would have done the same thing."
"Bon was a rock and roller and as hard as me. I left home when I was 16 and was knocking about the Cross. He was quite a few years older than me but we grew up tough and did the hard knocks. My relationship with Bon has nothing to do with this. I have always showed great respect to Bon and the fans will attest to that. My fans are up in arms about this."

SEBASTIAN BACH Joins GUNS N' ROSES On Stage At Italy's GODS OF METAL (Video)
- June 24, 2012
Former SKID ROW singer Sebastian Bach joined GUNS N' ROSES on stage on June 22 at the Gods Of Metal festival in Milan, Italy to perform the GN'R classic "My Michelle". Fan-filmed video footage of his appearance can be seen below.
When asked about the possibility of touring with GUNS 'N ROSES again, Bach said in an October 2011 interview, "I would play with GUNS 'N ROSES anytime. And Axl [Rose, GN'R lead singer] is one of a kind. I was too young to ever see THE DOORS but when I see old footage of Jim Morrison on stage, Axl has that kind of danger thing going on when he steps up to the mic. He's pretty fascinating."
During an August 2010 interview on "The Danny Bonaduce Show" on the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania radio station 94 WYSP, Sebastian spoke briefly about how Axl is often being portrayed unfavorably by the media. "Nobody has helped me more in the music industry than Axl Rose," Sebastian said.
"Everybody has all these theories as to why he acts the way he acts," Bach continued. "And there's no big mystery. He tells me the source of all of the insanity — it's his voice. It's his job to sing like that, and sometimes that sound is hard for him. And a lot of singers, you know... To sing in that range is just not an easy thing to do. And he does what he can, and if it takes him forty-five more minutes to warm up his pipes so he can sing 'Sweet Child O' Mine'... I mean, you drive around in your car and put on GUNS N' ROSES and just go for it. [Laughs]"

"El Rostro De La Muerte" is a dual-studio effort, combining the skills of two HIRAX producers which the band has worked with on their past three releases. The ten new tracks were recorded and engineered by John Haddad at Trench Studio in Corona, California, and mixed by Andy Haller. The new CD also contains one bonus track from the "Chaos And Brutality" EP, which was previously unavailable in the U.S.
"El Rostro De La Muerte" was made available on Black Devil Records and Deep Six Records and is distributed through CMDistro.com. It was pressed in CD and vinyl formats as well as a limited-edition picture disc.
On June 29, 2010 (one day earlier internationally), Season of Mist released a new compilation album from HIRAX, "Noise Chaos War". Consisting of three thrashing EPs — remastered, remixed and available on CD for the first time — this release also includes a video for "Bombs of Death", filmed live in Japan in 2009.
Originally signed to Metal Blade in 1985, HIRAX has been at the forefront of the thrash movement for over 25 years. Their music has stood the test of time and their legions of fans continue to grow.

DEF LEPPARD: Official Lyric Video For 2012 Version Of 'Rock Of Ages'
- June 24, 2012
According to The Pulse Of Radio, DEF LEPPARD recently joined the long list of rockers who have re-recorded their biggest hits in note-perfect renditions. Frontman Joe Elliott shed some light on the new "2012" versions of "Pour Some Sugar On Me" and "Rock Of Ages" now available at various digital retailers. Elliott told MTV, "How can I put this politely? We were having a major disagreement with our ex-record label about the digital rights for our back catalog. We couldn't come to a mutual understanding that seemed fair for both sides. So we finally just decided to re-record all our hits. We started with 'Sugar' and 'Rock Of Ages', and I think we did a pretty good job. It's hard work trying to recreate something you did 30 years ago."
When pressed on the fact that despite all the care taken, re-recordings never seems to sound identical to the original release, Elliott said: "We got the same sounds, the same key, the same tempo. It was a 100 percent forgery. That was the idea, anyway. . . [We were] very conscious of the fact that when people download our songs from iTunes, they want it to sound like they remember it."
The officialy lyric video for the 2012 version of "Rock Of Ages" can be seen below.
Elliot told The Pulse Of Radio that he feels lucky about DEF LEPPARD's continued success, especially with the current state of the record industry, as well as the struggles many new bands face. "Nowadays record labels — what's left of them — are trying to actually get half of merchandise when they tour," he said. "It's like, 'How dare you?' It's like two separate things. I can't see Roger Waters willingly giving up 20 percent of his T-shirts. Luckily we're not in that kind of bag. I just feel bad for the new bands. I mean, there's the old acts that can sell records these days. But most people, if they don't have a second record or profit, they don't make a third record."
DEF LEPPARD is currently on tour with POISON and LITA FORD.

DORO: Listening Session For 'Raise Your Fist In The Air' EP To Be Held Next Month
- June 24, 2012
On Tuesday, July 10, German metal queen Doro Pesch will hold an exclusive listening session for her new EP, "Raise Your Fist In The Air", at Nuclear Blast Records' headquarters in Donzdorf (near Stuttgart), Germany. The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. and Doro will be in attendance for a signing session. Click here for more information.
The "Raise Your Fist In The Air" EP will be released on August 3. A full-length album, "Raise Your Fist", will follow in the fall via Nuclear Blast Records.
"Raise Your Fist" was recorded and written in the U.S., Germany, and Scandinavia. Doro says, "Right now we're in the mixing stages and are close to finishing everything. Most important to me are the power hymns 'Raise Your Fist In The Air' and 'Victory', which will also be available on the forthcoming EP! Both songs have been played live on our last tour and also made last year's Wacken Open Air shake! 'Raise Your Fist In The Air' will also be available in French… which is going to be very interesting. For the diehard fans of German songs like 'Für Immer' ['Forever'], there are two songs in the same vein — sensitive and quite dark 'Human Rights' and the very emotional 'Engel' ['Angel']. There are also a lot of fast songs like 'Little Headbanger' and various fist-pumping ones featuring amazing guests like Gus G. (OZZY OSBOURNE, FIREWIND) on 'Last Man Standing' which fans will for sure dig live. We also have a song that honors the late Ronnie James Dio called 'Hero' and another highlight named 'It Still Hurts' featuring MOTÖRHEAD's Lemmy Kilmister. The cover artwork has once again been created by British artist Geoffrey Gillespie who is a close friend and companion since he made it into the Guinness Book Of World Records for his 'Triumph And Agony' cover as the biggest album cover in the world. Since then, he's done ten covers for us!"
The "Raise Your Fist In The Air" EP will be made available on CD, vinyl and as a digital download.
"Raise Your Fist In The Air" EP track listing:
01. Raise Your Fist In The Air 02. Victory 03. Engel 04. Lève Ton Poing Vers Le Ciel
In a 2011 interview with Canada's XplosiveMetal.com, Pesch spoke about the song "Raise Your Fist In The Air" which she played for the first time at last year's Wacken Open Air festival in Wacken, Germany. ""It got great feedback [from the Wacken audience]. . . . It was originally written by a Wacken fan, a metalhead, and then I did my own thing to it. It was actually a diehard Wacken fan who did a demo and sent it to the promoter. He sent it to me and said, 'Hey, how about we make a Wacken anthem and here's an idea from a diehard Wacken fan.' I listened to it and thought, 'Hey, that's great.' Then we worked on it and continued working on it. Just to tell you how that song came about, it was a collaboration with a diehard fan and it was actually really good. Sometimes the fans have the best ideas. It was so dead-on."
Fan-filmed video footage of Doro performing the song "Raise Your Fist In The Air" on October 1, 2011 at the Milk club in Moscow, Russia and October 22, 2011 at the Metal Female Voices Fest IX, held at the Oktoberhallen in Wieze, Belgium, can be seen below.
During a 2011 interview with Metal Kaoz, Pesch was asked about the progress of the songwriting and recording sessions for her next studio album. "I think we have completed 80 percent of the new record and there are some great songs coming up," she replied. "Actually, one song is dedicated to Ronnie James Dio and the working title is 'Hero'. That's a very special song. I was a big Dio fan and I know that there are so many fans out there are missing him so much, so definitely this song will be on the new record. Also they will be some speed metal songs, some anthems songs and, of course, some power ballads."
In conjunction with the Stateside release of the mammoth "25 Years In Rock" 2 DVD/CD set, Doro performed two special shows in New York City on September 9, 2011 and Chicago on September 11, 2011. Both nights included clips from the DVD, limited edition merchandise and an autograph session followed by a performance by the metal queen herself.
Released in Europe in 2010 (also via Nuclear Blast), the epic "25 Years In Rock" two-DVD/CD set includes Doro's 25-year anniversary show in its entirety as well as clips from her 2,500th concert and so much more.
"Fear No Evil", the latest album from Pesch, was made available in North America in June 2009 via AFM/Dismanic/Ryko Distribution.

BATTLELORE To Play Acoustic Show In Helsinki
- June 24, 2012
Finnish fantasy metallers BATTLELORE will play an acoustic show at Nosturi downstairs in Helsinki, Finland on August 9. The band states, "In spite of this gig we are still on a break."
BATTLELORE announced last November that it was going on an indefinite hiatus after performing at the Metal Female Voices Fest IX on October 21, 2011. The group ssaid at the time, "This is not the end, however, just a time-out to focus on other aspects of life and build up more creative energy for the future. . . There's no drama behind the decision to go on break, just a need to take a step back and have a breather."
BATTLELORE's sixth full-length album, "Doombound", was released in January 2011 via Napalm Records. The band's first conceptual effort, features lyrics which "tell the story of J.R.R. Tolkien's tragic hero Túrin Turambar and his kin," according to a press release. "One of the songs is sung completely in Finnish in appreciation to BATTLELORE's beautiful home country Finland and Kalevala, the national Finnish epic. The songs themselves are more dynamic, atmospheric and epic than ever before."

THIN LIZZY To Enter Recording Studio Tomorrow
- June 24, 2012
According to THIN LIZZY guitarist Damon Johnson, the band will enter the recording studio tomorrow "with electric guitars and amps a'blazin'; and Brian Downey's full drum kit!" No futher details are currently available.
In a recent interview with Rock Fusion, THIN LIZZY frontman Ricky Warwick stated about THIN LIZZY's plans to record a new studio album, "We've just been working on some ideas that we all have. We all write in the band, so we've just been sitting down and playing each other our stuff, and it's been really great. I mean, it's really early days, but everyone's very excited and got loads of ideas, and we're all working really great together as a band, and that's what it's all about — let's get in there and see what ideas we have and take it from there. It was all very productive and we all had a great time. We're back in next week so we will just take it from there and see what happens. Ideally we'd love to record as much as we can, but obviously it's got to be to a great fucking standard. We're all as nervous about it as the fans, but in a good way. The bar has been set very high and we will only release what we 100 percent believe in, whether that's two tracks or 12 tracks. I mean, I'd love it to be a full album, but we'll just need to take it as it goes."
When asked if there any plans for a live DVD in the future, Warwick said, "Yeah, there's talk about that further down the line. I mean, VH1 are revisiting us, they're updating 'Behind The Music' to include the new members in the band. Last year was all about re-establishing the band, the brand and the name and showing that what we have is something very real, and I think we've got over that hump now and this year we can move on. It's a case of taking it one step at a time. THIN LIZZY fans are very passionate and so loyal, you can't just go, 'Look, the band's back together, here's an album, here's a tour, and you'rd going fucking like it.' You've got to do it one bit at a time and win people over, and that's what we're doing. Like I said, at the end of the day, we are all fans, too."

METALLICA Performs 'Escape' Live For First Time Ever; Pro-Shot Footage Available
- June 24, 2012
METALLICA's two-day festival Orion Music + More kicked off last night (Saturday, June 23) at the popular Atlantic City, New Jersey concert venue Bader Feld. METALLICA is headlining both nights of Orion Music + More and playing "Ride The Lightning" in its entirety one night and "The Black Album" in its entirety the other. This will be the only time the band will perform these albums in North America in 2012.
In an interview with CBS Local, METALLICA lead guitarist Kirk Hammett said, "I know 'Ride The Lightning' forwards and backwards. It's not like 'The Black Album,' where there are three or four songs that we rarely play. Over the course of the years, we've played most of 'Ride The Lightning', except for one song we've never done, 'Escape'. It was pretty easy [to re-learn those songs]. We put way more time into learning 'The Black Album' than 'Ride The Lightning'."
Video footage of METALLICA performing the song "Escape" live for the first time ever last night (Saturday, June 23) at the Orion Music + More festival can be seen below.
Orion Music + More features multiple live music stages plus a lifestyle element that reflects each of METALLICA's bandmembers' many personal interests.
When asked why METALLICA would want to do their own festival, guitarist/vocalist James Hetfield said in a recent interview, "First of all, because we can. Why wouldn't you? We're just trying to bring a little more of a mix to what is going on. . . . I think the Europeans are able to look at a festival more as an event than 'my favorite band is playing.' We're not necessarily trying to reproduce that in the States, but we'd like to bring a little taste of that here."
Regarding the significance of the "Ride The Lightning" and "Metallica" albums, Hetfield said, "'Ride The Lightning' started to splinter us off from your SLAYERs and other thrash bands. A song called 'Fade To Black' was an instant thorn in the side of the metal community. It was the first veering off the studded path. [The Black Album] became the album, I guess, that people needed to have. It's a gateway for people to get into METALLICA."

EDEN'S CURSE: Footage Of PPM FEST Performance
- June 24, 2012
Multinational melodic metallers EDEN'S CURSE have posted a 25-minute video clip featuring behind-the-scenes and performance footage from the band's April 8 appearance at the PPM (Power Prog & Metal) Fest at the Lotto Mons Expo in Mons, Belgium. Check it out below.
EDEN'S CURSE earlier in the year announced the addition of Italian singer Marco Sandron to the group's ranks. Hailing from Portgruaro, 50 miles from Venice, in the northeast of Italy, Marco previously sang for Italian progressive metal act PATHOSRAY, who released their self-titled debut on Sensory Records in 2007 and their sophomore CD, "Sunless Skies", on Frontiers Records in 2009. That same year he also contributed lead vocals to French symphonic metal outfit FAIRYLAND's "Score To A New Beginning" album, which was released on Napalm Records.
"Time To Breathe", the latest single and promotional video from EDEN'S CURSE, can be seen below. The clip was shot on location at Sky Park in Glasgow with director Simon J. Gillespie of Music Video Scotland.
Written by Paul Logue and Pete Newdeck, "Time To Breathe"'s lyrics are very topical, as Newdeck explains. "The lyrics stem from the current financial crisis grippling society today and the ignorance people have to what we are doing to ourselves and this awesome world we live in," he says. "We need to buy ourselves time or it will be too late to put it all right."
Director Simon Jake Gillespie of Music Video Scotland explains the concept behind the video: "As well as capturing the band performance, we wanted to portray the lyrical concept in a visual manner by showing four different people from four different walks of life uniting together to help each other escape from a situation. This symbolizes what we perceive needs to happen in society today to work our way out of the mess we have found ourselves in globally."
A snippet of the demo version of "Losing My Faith", a brand new song from EDEN'S CURSE, can be streamed using the SoundCloud player below. The track will appear on the band's forthcoming fourth studio album, which will be recorded later in the year.

DARK DAY SUNDAY: 'Halfway To Godz' Lyric Video Released
- June 24, 2012
The official lyric video for "Halfway To Godz", a song from DARK DAY SUNDAY, the old-school thrash band featuring FATES WARNING guitarist Frank Aresti and SHADOWS FALL drummer Jason Bittner, is available below.
Inspired by Bay Area thrash bands like METALLICA, EXODUS, and MEGADETH, DARK DAY SUNDAY brings together old and new elements to create a brand new sound. The result: pure, raw energy.
DARK DAY SUNDAY is composed of four guys with a common love for headbanging fury, wailing guitar solos, melodic vocals that simply won't quit, and a rhythm section so in tune with one another you'd swear they were born of the same insanity.
Frank Aresti started his career with seminal prog-metal band FATES WARNING. As inspiration to many later bands, from DREAM THEATER to SLIPKNOT, Frank's guitar playing helped propel the band to commercial success and critical acclaim.
"I love playing with FATES," comments Frank, "but DARK DAY SUNDAY has a special place in my heart. I grew up listening to late '70s British punk and hardcore, then to early American thrash. I absolutely love this music."
In the drummer's seat is one of the most highly regarded metal drummers today, Jason Bittner of SHADOWS FALL. A Berklee College Of Music alum, "Jason brings a great energy to this band," says Aresti. "He lends an aggressive approach, pushing the beat while completely locking up with the rhythm section. It's a powerful feeling when you hear us live."
Rounding out the rhythm section on bass is Ed Lanouette. Ed earned his bachelor's degree at Berklee College Of Music and graduated with a master's degree in jazz performance from the Boston Conservatory. He cites his main influences as Jaco Pastorius and BLACK SABBATH's Geezer Butler.
Soaring above the ferocious riffs and pounding rhythm section is vocalist Marc Lopes. Marc cites his main influence as Bruce Dickinson of IRON MAIDEN. "Bruce has the ability to be melodic and aggressive at the same time," says Marc. "I love that, and that's what I go for in my singing."
When asked about the future of DARK DAY SUNDAY, Frank replies, "I want to take this band on the road, across the world. I want to continue making and recording music as long as we can. And judging how all four of us love doing this, that's going to be a long time."
DARK DAY SUNDAY expects to release its debut album later this year.
DARK DAY SUNDAY is:
Marc Lopes - Vocals Frank Aresti (FATES WARNING) - Guitar Ed Lanouette - Bass Jason Bittner (SHADOWS FALL) – Drums

ONSLAUGHT Re-Recording 'Metal Forces' For 'The Force' Re-Release
- June 24, 2012
British thrash metal veterans ONSLAUGHT are recording a new version of their classic song "Metal Forces", to be included as a bonus track on the upcoming re-release of the band's 1986 album, "The Force", due later in the year via AFM Records. There will also be revised artwork and some sleeve notes written by ONSLAUGHT guitarist Nige Rockett.
ONSLAUGHT will perform "The Force" in its entirety on their upcoming European headlining tour in September and October. Main support on the trek will be shared by Dutch metal outfit IZEGRIM, who are still promoting the critically acclaimed "Code Of Consequence" CD from 2011, and German thrashers CRIPPER who will release their new album, "Antagonist", on June 22. Both bands will be rotating positions during the entire tour.
Commented Rockett: "It's been what the fans have been asking for from ONSLAUGHT for so long now, so that's exactly what we're gonna give them! AFM are re-releasing 'The Force' album in September, so it seemed quite appropriate to take this show on the road. We're gonna play the whole album in running order, as well as all the favorites from the other four releases. I think it's gonna be a whole lot of messy fun!"
ONSLAUGHT is tentatively scheduled to enter the studio at the end of the year to record its new album for a spring release via AFM Records.
ONSLAUGHT recruited Michael Hourihan (EXTREME NOISE TERROR, DESECRATION) to play the drums following last year's departure of Steve Grice.
ONSLAUGHT's fifth album, "Sounds Of Violence", was released in January 2011 via AFM Records. The follow-up to 2007's "Killing Peace" was recorded and mixed at Hansen Studio in Ribe, Denmark with acclaimed Danish producer Jacob Hansen (RAUNCHY, MERCENARY, VOLBEAT, HEAVEN SHALL BURN).
