KISS: 'Monster' Cover Artwork Unveiled - July 30, 2012
KISS has revealed the final piece of the cover for its 20th studio album, "Monster".

Using their recently launched "Monster Hunt" Facebook app, the rockers have been exposing portions of the image at various web sites around the Internet since last week.

The complete "Monster" cover can now be seen below.

"Monster" will be released on October 16 through Universal Music Enterprises. Described in a press release as a "12-track, straight-ahead rock 'n' roll album," the CD features collaborations among all four members — including co-founders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons and longtime members guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer — in an album that shows the band at the top of its game.

"Monster" is the group's first studio album since the band's 2009 smash success, "Sonic Boom", and was also produced by Paul Stanley with Greg Collins at Conway Studios in Hollywood, California, and The Nook in Studio City, California.

"Monster" represents KISS' nod to the music that first inspired them to pick up their guitars and flame-throwers and don makeup to entertain millions. The group goes back to their own beginnings with THE WHO-like "Freak", while Gene lives up to the title track's declaration on the raucous rock of "Back To The Stone Age" and the bludgeoning "The Devil is Me". Even guitarist Thayer takes a turn on his own with "Outta This World". a tribute to his KISS "spaceman" character, while drummer Singer provides the vocals (and the back story) for the arena anthem "All For The Love Of Rock & Roll".

"There are no symphony orchestras, boy choirs, keyboards, outside producers or songwriters on this album," promises Gene Simmons. "The best thing we did was to turn inwards to ourselves. Tommy and Eric have revitalized this band, with a work ethic and the talent to back it up. This is a real band effort. KISS has become a behemoth. We're going where no bands have gone before."

What happened to Paul saying, "it will be a painting similar in tone to Destroyer."? With a title like Monster, as a long time fan, I was expecting something much cooler than this. I guess after the crappy Sonic Boom cover I shouldn't be surprised....

My thoughts exactly. After Sonic Boom....it's not that hard to impress me. But I was wanting drawing of some sort. Along the lines of Destroyer....Love Gun...etc. This just blows.

Haha.

Sadly, I think you've hit the nail on the head here. Album artwork used to be 12x12, then it got shrunk for CDs, now it's shrunk again for thumbnails. The same sort of stuff has happened to the comics in the newspapers. Here's a toast to the dying art of graphic arts. :( I thought this cover is similar to Revenge, except with the band on on it.

OK I'll admit that I liked Sonic Boom for a while but it quickly fell off of my play list. Was it really a "smash success"? I don't remember it selling THAT well.

In regards to the "Monster" cover, lame, lamer, lamest cover for a Kiss album that I have ever seen. I will still purchase it and give it a chance.

...very disappointed by this album cover. If the band is really so fired up about the album, they should have done something much more special. Not only does the album title look like the Monster Energy Drink logo, but the whole thing looks like the kissonline.com banner! Not much excitement in revealing something that differs from that only in a) new costumes, and b) number of rivets in the metallic letters...

Well, it's good news for Van Halen, who--until today--were winning the "worst cover of the year" derby!!!

No i'm joking, I pretty much already guessed as much when I saw the single cover for Hell or Hallelujah. Pretty similar eh? And look at the cover for Modern Day Delilah, the 1st single on Sonic Boom, pretty similar. I was hoping it would be great, but whatever. I'll still check it out definately.

It doesnt suck, but it is tooo simple. They should of spent time on a real cool cover. But , i will be there tomorrow night for the 12th time, looks like every one likes the tour. The onlp problem i have is i paid the same money i have for tomorrow nights show that i did in 2010, that show was around two and a half hours, in 09 it was around two and a half hours, and now it will be about an hour and a half. I dont care about Motley Crue, so i get screwed on ticket pricce...

If you aren't a fan of the marketing, you might've stopped being a fan in 1977. AC/DC has Monopoly and Wine, as does Metallica. Pink Floyd and Beatles crap is everywhere; EVERY band has a shit ton of merchandise now. It isn't just KISS.

The cover is OK. A little like Revenge with make-up Kiss in front of it, but really nothing special. I think with a title like "Monster" we expected something completely different. The title seems meaningless now. But it's still much better than album-covers like Psycho Circus, Animalize and Hot In The Shade.

As a KISS fan since 1975, this is truly disappointing. I realize the days of LPs, and even CDs now, are gone, so the need for "cover art" isn't really necessary. Who wants to download a digital cover? Not me, for one. Just the same, knowing the bands penchant for making money, they will release a limited amount of LPs and CDs I am sure, but this cover will not enhance sales. It really is a major letdown, kinda like the first single off of "Monster"

A perfect example of how they continue to try to live off of the images created by ace and peter. This is just a re-creation of a photo with taken back in the 70's. Maybe a Circus magazine cover or something like that. Dont remember exactly but I am sure that I have seen this "band photo" before.

It seems to be too close for my taste but it had to pass through the legal dept.. Maybe the new tour will be sponsored by them. I hope that is not the reason.
