GARY MOORE's Grave In 'Sorry State' - Aug. 13, 2012
According to the Belfast Telegraph, Gary Moore fans have expressed concerns over the "sorry state" of his grave, saying that the legendary guitarist's final resting place looks "neglected."

Moore suffered a heart attack brought on by a massive amount of alcohol he consumed prior to being found dead in bed at a luxury hotel in Spain in February 2011 and was put to rest in Saltdean, East Sussex.

However, the only sign that it's Moore's grave is a small brown cross stating "Gary Moore 1952-2011" and a few items left behind by fans, the Belfast Telegraph reports. (See photo of Moore's grave at BelfestTelegraph.co.uk.)

Local resident Irene Campbell told the paper she would prefer to see a bigger signification at the resting place, explaining, "When I went to look for Gary Moore's grave at the parish church, it took me ages to find. Having been to Pere Lachaise in Paris recently and visited Jim Morrison's grave, I was expecting some sort of original memorial, maybe a guitar in stone. Just as I was giving up I found it tucked away against a back wall with no obvious markings. The little black scarf draped on the cross probably was what caught my eye. The grave was not delineated or looked after — there were lots of fallen leaves not swept up. I was really disappointed and thought it looked neglected."

Moore's family spokesman issued a statement to the paper explaining that adverse weather conditions were to blame for the delay in erecting a headstone.

"A headstone is currently being made, as arranged by Gary's family," said the spokesman. "It does take some time for the ground, following a burial, to settle and to be able to support a headstone or memorial piece. But with the continuing wet weather, this has added to the time that the ground is taking to settle."

Disgusting!! A legend like this should never have a final resting place like that. If it were up to me, he have his own statue standing right next to Phil's.

it takes ages to get planning permission in ireland to be allowed to put a headstone down and it has been rainning ever 2 day here. Every process in ireland takes ages. Phil's Lynotts statue wasn't allowed up near the o connell bridge so now it's up on some small road outside a metal pub. I nearly walked into it when i was drunk.

Holy Fuck!!!!! Leaves had fallen??? This is completely unacceptable! Gary Moore is a legend. There should be someone there 24 hours a day to catch the leaves as they fall!

I always liked the track he did with Phil Lynott, 'Out In The Fields'. One might venture that it too is a badbreathtaking song.

Looking at his grave in that picture isn't nice. Kind of makes me wonder what kind of hole in the ground I'll be in.

And I won't even really be in the hole...

If anything, seeing that state of his grave reinforces my preference to be cremated. That way, no one will have to give a fuck to maintain upkeep on my burial plot. Besides, what if you wake up from death inside the box there? You're kinda shit outta luck getting out lol. I wasn't born in the ground, so I'd rather not wind up there.

...and Jim Morrison's grave didn't look a whole lot better.

Then again, he probably gets a lot more traffic, so there was more garbage there, etc.

I think it looks alright, even kinda cool in a way. He was a soulful guitar player and a bluesman, not a rock star -- and that's the way his grave looks to me.

Shitty excuse too. 1.5 yrs for a headstone is too long.

I'd be sad, even if it were Carrot Top's plot.

Whatever the excuse Gary's estate was big enough to leave a headstone befitting a guitar god's final resting place. The family is probably argueing over who's gonna pay. Hope i'm wrong. Get it done.

You may call me "impious" for saying this, but -- guys, it's just a grave. Gary Moore is remembered by millions of people who listen to his songs every day.
I don't think a mere fan of his music has a right to demand anything from Moore's family.
