SOUNDGARDEN's New Album Due In November - Aug. 16, 2012
According to Rolling Stone, reunited grunge legends SOUNDGARDEN have set a November 13 release date for their as-yet-untitled new album. "It re-establishes that we still rock, we're still heavy, and we're still a little weird," SOUNDGARDEN guitarist Kim Thayil tells the magazine. The CD will feature tracks like "Blood On The Valley Floor" and "A Thousand Days Before", the latter of which "has a little Indian thing and some chicken-pickin'," Thayil says. "We call it 'country and eastern.'"

After reuniting in 2010, SOUNDGARDEN completed recording earlier this year on its first set of all-new material since 1996's "Down On The Upside".

The group's new song "Live To Rise" recently topped the Active Rock radio chart. The tune was taken from "Avengers Assemble", the companion soundtrack to the blockbuster movie "The Avengers".

According to The Pulse Of Radio, SOUNDGARDEN singer Chris Cornell recently revealed in an interview with the New York Times that there are some 15 songs from the band's earliest days that have yet to be released in any form. Cornell explained, "It was the first 15 we wrote. It was on a cassette that Kim [Thayil, guitarist] always referred to as 'The First 15.'" He added, "We were a band for a couple of years before we really did much (recording) . . . when we would go in to record, we tended to record the newest things we had written, because it was what we were most excited about."

Cornell continued that as a result, some of that earlier material fell by the wayside. He said, "We just got together in our room and started writing songs and did it very quickly. And then we would sit around and discuss what that sounds like, and then over time, I think we would maybe be critical about some of the things we were writing and playing and excited about some of the new stuff we were bringing into the band."

Drummer Matt Cameron told The Pulse Of Radio that the band's approach to making music hasn't changed that dramatically since its early days. "We started out very humbly here in the Northwest and I don't think we've ever really gone too far from those sort of ideals, which were, you know, real do-it-yourself, kind of '80s underground ideals," he said. "And it just feels good to lock up in a room together and write music together and play together that is uniquely our own thing."

No taste. But then, what would one expect when someone with the name of boogerlips is slagging the mighty Soundgarden.

Other than a nostalgia trip. This band doesnt do it for me. I have respect for them though. Cornells voice alone is always worth a listen.

However, Of all the" grunge" songs/Albums that came out at that time, The best is Pearl Jams "Animal" from the album Versus (5 against 1) which was a great album top to bottom.

Not Seattle, but totally amongst the greats of that era, The Smashing Pumpkins' 'Siamese Dream' as well as 'Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness'.

Until that super unknown then it went downhill fast
That sabbath meets stooges and Devo sound was killer more than filler

This and a new Rage Against the Machine album and I'd be a happy man. Throw in a Pearl Jam album in the vein of Vs while you're at it.

They took their time on it, Chris is singing better than ever and they're a band that's still interesting and has more stuff in them yet. No one else sounds like Soundgarden. I'm genuinely glad they're back and a new album is on the horizon. Cool.

AREN'T FUCKING GRUNGE!!! Early Pearl jam is grunge. Mudhoney, Screaming Trees and the like, they're grunge. Nirvana too. Calling Soundgarden grunge is like calling Guns 'n Roses hair metal. Rolling Stone lumped them and AIC into the movement because of where they were from, but their music is not grunge. The grunge bands were pretty much all disciples of the Who and post pank bands like The Replacements, Husker Du and the Meat Puppets. Soundgarden and AIC come from Sabbath and Led Zeppelin.

I think they are just like any other band. The albums are like a roller coaster ride. I guess it is understandable. I am looking forward to their new one. Hopefully it will be better than Down On The Upside. To me, that always seemed like a Superunknown Part 2. I never truly got into that one.

They have always been in a league of their own above all of the other Seattle bands, even AIC.That's how good I think they are. They don't have any bad albums.Louder Than Love and Superunknown are their best.

I wasn't a big fan of Live To Rise, but I'm glad their back together and I'm greatly looking forward to the new album.Legends!

But they became totally overrated, just like Alice in Chains, who I just don't get at all. Pearl Jam was better than both IMO

In the end they looked so fucking bored on stage it was pitiful. Why put yourselves through that again?
