Also, they're a European band, not here often and probably pay quite a bit to be over here, so to cancel a show would likely cost them money. I can understand her being upset not being able to perform, but she has to understand the dynamics of the band and best decision for band business. Which ultimately, she may have to understand the bands next business decision.

I was at the Worcester show and saw these two women perform with Kamelot. They were great. Particulaly Elisa. She's obviously quite talented and has amazing stage charisma. Why she's not touring with her own band and taking center stage, I'll never know. After seeing her live, I have to say, she's that good. You can see it in these videos- and that with little or no rehersal.

It's time to admit that he Annette experiment has failed.

We are witnessing the future of Nightwish. It's my strongest hope that Elisa is part of it.

Elize is the vocalist of Amaranthe, I dont think she wants to quit that band.

The only reason Annette is pissed off is because both singers are far better than she is. I would much rather see Nightwish with Alissa and Elize.

Touring bands do this all the time, and I've never heard anyone complain about it before. I for one would feel relieved that my band was able to carry on for a night and that the fans were happy.
Not only was it professional to keep the show going, this is also how the band makes its living. If someone calls out sick at work, someone will have to do your job for the day so things can keep rolling. It also sounds like the audience had fun, as did the band and the two sub-singers. A potential negative was turned into a positive. Be grateful.

I never typically post to this board, but I'm hoping you might be reading this very telling thread.

I live in Seattle, and would definitely be going to your show tomorrow night, but I can't bring myself to do it because Anette's stage charisma is so terrible. She looks like some combination of my mom and/or a member of an Abba karoke band. I saw you guys on the last tour and loved the show, but hated everything about Anette. I closed my eyes and tried to enjoy it, but that's not really ideal. She was a total buzzkill.

I'm not a Tarja loyalist - unfotunately I never saw you guys with her and am sure I would have dug that - but I think you have lots of singer options. Hopefully one who can do justice to all your material. And hopefully someone who belongs in a metal band and is passionate about he material.

I actually love the albums with Anette on them - because I don't have to look at her hideous "dancing" and total lack of integration with the rest of the band. When you watch you guys, it's like she's in a different band than the rest of you. It's clear she feels like she's "above" this work and would rather be doing something more straight-up pop. The comparison she makes with Britney and Rihanna is telling - was that the first analogy that popped to mind? Solo pop acts? Not, say, "No one can imagine Maiden going on with Bruce?" or "No one can imagine Lamb of God going on without Randy?" Not that those bands wouldn't do that if they had a situation with Nightwish - because they have a work ethic and a dedication to playing for the fans. But I'm sure Anette couldn't even name the lead singers of those bands.

And when it comes to singing many of the old songs, say , Ever Dream or Ghost Love Score, it's just a fucking travesty when Anette does it. It's just not something she's capable of doing. Fair enough, she's not trained as an opera singer, but she's in a band with a ton of opera songs in their catalog!

The Britney/Rihanna analogy doesn't work. They alone are the draw to their shows, Annette is not. People love the band, they tolerate Annette.

The first thing ANY entertainer learns be it music, stage, film... The show must go on. To cop an attitude about the band playing without her is sad.

I was at the show. I will admit I was bummed Annette did not sing, but I was VERY Grateful as was my boyfriend and most every person I have talked to that Nightwish played instead of sending us home after Kamelot. Elize and Alissa did their best and I give them kudos and thumbs up for filling in, in a very tough situation.

I know Annette has missed or left in the middle of other shows and maybe Nightwish is not the band for her. I love her vocals and style and though I love Tarja too, A singer can be easily replaced. Sometimes for the better, sometimes not. Just look at Kamelot, Tommy replaced Khan and personally I think Tommy is just as good if not better than Roy but that is my opinion.

Is this the end of Annette? Hard to say but I know if I where the rest of Nightwish I'd be setting her down and say "Look Missy, the fans come first and it was what they wanted!"

Bands replace members at the last minute all the time to make a show work and fulfil their obligations. The show must go on - the oldest maxim in show business. Annette ought to get over it and stay the fuck off of the internet. Nothing so low as trashing your band mates in the public domain.

Not talkign to her about it though, we've been here before. According to Nightwish this is classic Finn behaviour. No i'm not being racist. Read the Nightwish biography. Tuomas openly stresses that the problems in Nightwish are always caused through avoidance and lack of communication on contentious issues and he blames that on their culture; supposedly it is part and parcel of being Finns.
Well, they've used that excuse before - you'd think they'd have learned by now.

Let's get one thing straight though. Annette is not a replacement singer. She never stepped in for Tarja. She was hired in her own right, on her own merit after Tarja got fired for openly trashing the band in the press and blindly letting her husband fuck up the inner business workings of the whole outfit. That was tough to go through as a serious fan at the time. I wasn't surprised when she was fired. She deserved it. That should have been the end of it right there, but all her die hard followers have got to go on is lobbying for a reunion. After all, Tarja has put out nothing of worth since she got her freedom.

All credit to Annette for having the balls to take all this undeserved hate on the chin for so long. Were it not for the existence of her oh so sanctified predecessor, she'd be treated totally different.

She totally nailed the vocals at this year's Download festival. Far better than I was expecting.

From and outsider's perspective, (escpecially after reading the Nightwish biography) I have a real hard time believing how much of the garbage they seem to put up with from Anette since she's joined the band.
Fact: She admitted that she begged them multiples times via email to let her audition/join, since the band had reservations about her because they didn't think she could handle touring and being away from her kid.
Fact: Despite convincing them she was 100% fine with it, she had a breakdown not far into her first tour with them because she had to be away.
I'm shocked that they even let her have her own manager given what they went through with Mr. Tarja.
This girl needs to realize that she's basically a hired employee who sings songs written by Tuomas. She has zero creative input. They fired fucking Tarja Turunen for crying out loud!! What makes this girl think she's any less replaceable?? Obviously these videos proved that anyone is capable of filling in for her, even if they themselves aren't as good as Tarja (which, they're not, but you see where I'm going with this?) This band has worked very hard and dealt with a lot of shit, why should they have had to sit on their asses and disappoint their fans because their singer got sick?? They were obviously lucky to have two talented singers to help out, and Anette should be thanking all of them. She would have come out looking like a class act instead of of a diva monster.

It was up to us. Tuomas came out during the set break, told us what had happened, and asked by a show of hands whether we wanted the show to be cancelled or to go ahead with the fill-ins. It was nearly unanimous for playing with what they had. I, for one, was happier seeing a short, incomplete set than I would have been if they had done nothing at all.

So there really was no time to ask the "employee substitute singer" for permission. Really, she should just get over herself... well, now she has plenty of time to do so.

I really like Anette, truly. I saw Nightwish in Montreal on this tour and caught them in VA during their last tour. She brings something different to the table and I've thoroughly enjoyed the last two albums Nightwish has produced.

That being said, if two adaquete singers had not been immediately available to fill in at the very last minute, I imagine they would have cancelled. Considering it wasn't until 7pm that she returned to the hospital for further treatment, cancelling at that time would have been a bad idea in my opinion. Nightwish simply tried to make the best of a bad situation. I understand that she feels she should have at least been somewhat included in the decision-making or at least had the idea run by her for an opinion, but come on...she was in the hospital. Maybe they didn't want to trouble her with all of that and wanted her to soley focus on her health.

Annette should understand that it's this sort of behavior that got the previous singer fired, and unlike Tarja, singers like her are a dime a dozen (as they proved that night).

I would have no objection if they fired her and found someone like Simone Simons (who says she would have no interest, but someone like her) who can pull off both styles.

A band has the flexibility to plug in replacement parts if needed to keep the show going. Slayer has done this with Jeff Hanneman out. James Hetfield's guitar duties were delegated for a few weeks after he got cooked alive on stage.

You are just the singer in a band, a replacement for the diva who got fired before you came along. You are not so irreplaceable that the entire show stops when you get sick.

Maybe she isn't the most talented and great vocalist out there but neither was Tarja. Majority of people here don't know much of the concept of vocals to do any critical work on either Anette's or Tarja's voice. Anette and the rest of a band should have a say in decisions. Even if Tuomas decides to go on with the show, he should have at least asked her. Perhaps, Anette wouldn't have minded so much is she was ask. I think she is just feeling lately as though she is not a member of the band. Feeling a little insecure. Which isn't right. If Nightwish don't want to pull another drama with the singer, they should perhaps listen to her at times. That is what was the problem that happened back with Tarja. Of course, Tuomas didn't HAVE to. It wasn't a legal obligation. However, if wishes to maintain positive relations with his band members, he should. Managers, leaders etc. do things they don't have to do in order to maintain a smoother operation with the people they are managing or looking after. There is a fine line between legal and ethical obligations. He did nothing wrong with his decision or what he did. He did what was best. But it could have been BETTER if he notified her. Simple things you learn while studying Business Management. Why not keep your team members happy? Happy members work better. Majority of bands' issues stem from lack of communication and simple management skills. It is always good to make you feel your teams members have a say even if they technically don't. It keeps from little problems like this happening that will contribute to even bigger ones. Hence that of what happen with Tarja. Listen to your singer, your guitarist etc. Ask them here and there on what is their opinion on the decisions you will make. It just makes it all the more smoother. What is better? Making a decision and not consulting a member, things go alright with the member left disgruntled. Or making a decisions and consulting a member, things go smoothly all the way. He has the liberty to do take both options but one is clearly a little better than the other. It is all just simple ethics and niceties. Best way to operate is to look ahead for minor issues and stop them from happening. That is all. Tuomas is dealing with people with different personalities, not robots or machines. That is all that I am saying.

1) He makes the vast majority of the "band's" profits and leaves the others to right for the rest
2) He HAS called other band members "hired" at time (for reference, read the official Nightwish book which he okayed)
3) Has sole control of who stays and who goes.

The fans wanted to see a show and Nightwish gave them one. How is that wrong? When Kiss can do a show without Paul Stanley I`m sure Nightwish can do one without Olzon. To be honest: This is just the first step in bringing Tarja back. Journalists have butchered her latest solo effort. Even Classic Rock Magazine said that was "nails scracthing blackboards". You did a great show when I went to see Nightwish and I liked the album…but now you just kicked yourself out of Nightwish. Great move...

Elize proved to many fans new and old that she could take the reigns and make nightwish one of the best live bands in the world, with a little work and practice. She winged it and sang better than Anette usually does. She has better stage presence and looks the part more. Anette struggles to hit most of the high notes live. Its quite embarrasing watching YouTube vids of older song live. Her stage moves are silly and more in line for a pop singer, which she was and is. I loved dark passion play, but how much of her vocals were fixed with studio magic, coaching, and numerous takes? I hope tuomas reads these posts and cosiders making the change that needs to be done for the future of nw. And also go back to being a bit less symphonic and soundtrack like imaginaerum.
P.s. Anette let herself get fat. That in itself is a no no when you are a symbol of beauty and feminity and sex for millions of men.

I almost lost interest completely when they hired pop singer Anette that lacks Tarja's vocals capacity and stage presence.

I would really liked to have seen this Nightwish show with Elize and Alissa.. they are by far better singers and has better stage presence.

Time to let Anette go so she can make her pop solo album and take back Tarja or singer with similar capacity like Simone Simons.

I have read through all of the comments on here... Seriously, someone even said a pretty face should be seen, not heard? What in the world does most of these comments have anything to do with musical performance? There's two sides to every story, and without a doubt this situation could've been handled better from both parts. but to start talking about this being the end of Anette's career in Nightwish, or to start bashing her as an artist, that is going a bit overboard. She was ill, she was not asked or let in on the decision that was made, I can only imagine how hurtful that must've felt. At the same time, the rest of the band had a tough decision to make, to either cancel, or to go on with the show. They decided to go on with the show and bring in a replacement for a member in the band without conferring with Anette. That is what lead to her comment, which might not have been to smart considering the response that is surfacing online... I like Anette, she is a great artist and I love her work with Nightwish. It is up to each and every one to make a choice whether they feel she should be a part of Nightwish or not, but she did after all measure up to the standard that Tuomas has set for the band. So to call her all sort of names and say she has nothing going for her, that is really not a good argument to bring in. If you don't like Nightwish, that is fine too, but then wouldn't it be better to go comment and use time on a band that you do like and do support rather than bashing some band that you couldn't care less about? Well, if there's anything to be learned here it's that unlike the fans, prolific bands & band members don't enjoy the privilege of being able to blog or post negative /personal things having to do with said band. It'll wind up all over the net and they'll find themselves nailed to the wall, as we're seeing here.
There are a lot of musicians & bands that possess a more 'down to earth' persona because they resist the urge to "share," keep things like this within the band and resolve it away from the media. Keep it professional and always take the high road. What you may write during a moment of anger, hurt, etc. will haunt you forever.
