Drummer JOSH FREESE Quits A PERFECT CIRCLE - Oct. 2, 2012
After a 13-year run with the band, drummer Josh Freese has decided to leave A PERFECT CIRCLE "with no plans of returning," he writes on his Twitter profile. "Apologies to those inquiring about the upcoming shows," he adds.

A PERFECT CIRCLE will perform one show in 2012 — on December 29 at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, Nevada.

A PERFECT CIRCLE recently confirmed its participation in the 2013 edition of the Soundwave Festival, which kicks off February 23 in Brisbane, Australia.

A PERFECT CIRCLE toured North America for the first time in six years last summer. These were the band's first live dates since a mini-tour they did in the fall of 2010, in which they played each of their three studio albums over the course of three nights in five cities.

The 2010-2011 lineup of A PERFECT CIRCLE included singer Maynard James Keenan, guitarist-songwriter Billy Howerdel, Freese, former SMASHING PUMPKINS guitarist James Iha and bassist Matt McJunkins.

A PERFECT CIRCLE currently does not have a record deal.

can ya blame him? I'm an APC fan, but the last record they put out was in 2005, and that was mostly covers. They played a couple shows in the last 2 years, and no plans for a new record on the horizon (as far as I'm aware.) Why would anyone waste their time in that kind of project?

The good thing, for him, about being in APC is that all the time off allowed him to do all of the studio and live fill-in work that he's known for.

Jeff Friedl is a good replacement for him though. He plays with both Puscifer and Ashes Divide, and sounded great on the old material during the last tour they did.

Hell, I forgot that Tim "Herb" Alexander was the drummer on the APC demos, and they took the demo for The Hollow and put it on Mer de Noms.

Herb is way too good for this kind of rubbish. He's better off staying "retired."

Should keep Josh busy enough. Plus the 16 other bands he tends to float in and out of.

Must be nice to get to pick and choose your work like that.

I wish I were so lucky.

This guy worked with Slash and a bunch others.

He drummed for Juliana Hatfield, the indie-rock babe with depth and the cute face to slice through your heart for her "Only Everything" record.

In other words, he's one lucky motha!!

I really tried with APC, as I like everyone in the band. But man, outside of track one on album number two, this band is pretty uninteresting. Very bland.

Great drummer, don't blame him one bit for leaving. Having to wait years for Maynard to make new music again.

Jeff Friedl replaced him in APC too? I just saw Devo and Jeff was playing for them too. The replacement drummer for career replacement drummers...

He tells his fans during shows that he would rather be somewhere else making wine or whatever he does now. Then go do it and shut the fuck up. Your cult following is full of mindless worship. A king of fools. Good for you!

is a very prolific musician. he has recorded and toured with goddamn everyone (Offspring, NIN, APC, Weezer, Devo, Paramore, Seether and so on) in addition to recording his own solo projects. Point is, the guy likes to stay busy. Maynard on the other hand has given up on the artistry of music and is content to release a new Tool album only once their label absolutely forces them to and even then it will be purely motivated by profit. Maynard will NEVER want to do another APC release, again, he just wants to kick back, rake in the royalties (which he complains are not enough) and occasionally tour in order to make a buck in between wine seasons. Bottom line, Freese is a legitimate, working man in the music business stifled by inactivity. Maynard is a lazy hack past his prime and is just holding everyone around him back at this point.

I doubt Freese is collecting royalties on Evanesence or any of the stuff he tracks on. He would have to have a pretty special contract that says he gets those points for any project he partakes in, which he very well might have being a performer of his caliber. Traditionally though, royalties are only paid to the songwriters. If he got royalties from ALL the projects he did, the guy would be a billionaire.
