GEOFF TATE Talks New Solo Album In Video Interview - Oct. 27, 2012

Pittsburgh Music Magazine conducted an interview with QUEENSRŸCHE vocalist Geoff Tate on October 24 at the Rex Theater in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. You can now watch the chat below.

Tate, who was fired from QUEENSRŸCHE in June after fronting the group for three decades, will release his second solo album, "Kings & Thieves", on November 6 via InsideOut Music.

Tate issued his first solo CD in 2002 on Sanctuary Records. Self-titled, the LP was a huge departure from the work he had previously done with QUEENSRŸCHE.

On September 2, Tate announced that he was launching his own version of QUEENSRŸCHE with RATT drummer Bobby Blotzer, former QUIET RIOT, OZZY OSBOURNE and WHITESNAKE bassist Rudy Sarzo and former MEGADETH and KING DIAMOND guitarist Glen Drover. Also on board in the new group are returning QUEENSRŸCHE guitarist Kelly Gray — who played with the band from 1998 until 2001 and also produced several of their albums — and keyboardist Randy Gane, who has toured and recorded with QUEENSRŸCHE and Geoff's solo group in the past.

Hey!!! Anyone interviewing Geoff Tate...STOP!!! Stop giving him this attention for crying out loud. All he's doing is trashing the Queensryche name all the while talking about how he would never tarnish the Queensryche name. He's nothing more than a hypocrite with a semi decent voice (Which used to be brilliant). So please stop giving him this attention until he stops his utterly ridiculous behavior and moves on as the solo act he should be...OR...at the very least..."Geoff Tate: The Music of Queensryche" much like Dennis DeYoung of Styx does. I'd have infinitely more respect for Tate if he would just move on as the hard rocking solo artist he should be but alas that will probably not happen anytime soon.

Geoff Tate sounds light years better doing "Eyes of a Stranger" than Todd Latorre, even with his diminished range... Hopefully the new material is better than the initial Amazon previews would suggest.

I'm not going to judge whether you're right or wrong re Eyes Of a Stranger etc but remember that Tate has the song tuned down quite a bit and Todd is singing it in its original key.

is a "has-been" artist. His best performance was when he still had the voice and the lyrical ability to write great songlyrics/concepts. But he lacks the ability to write songs like Degarmo/Wilton/Jackson did.

I believe the new singer will team up with Wilson/Jackson for the writing of new music and together with Rockenfield do some arrangements (LaTorre is a drummer) He must be more talented than GT because GT have had his free ride in the 80-90´s.

GT can sell wine or sunglasses!

I love how the Tate relative/employee filming this never scans the whole crowd in the video. That would be a dead giveaway that there is only about 50 people standing in front of the stage - maybe even in the whole room. Visibly noticeable around 4:40 when the camera jerks back to the stage after it reaches the end of the crowd 3 rows deep.

musically it sounds like a cheap cover band/bar band jamming. It doesn't sound at all like Queensryche playing. Not a bit. The only salvageable part was the guitar solo, which was average. Sloppy drumming, lame keyboards, weak rhythm guitars etc. Surprisingly Geoff actually hit some of the notes! He cheated on many of the higher parts, and lost a good bit of his power and sustain. I would feel cheated paying to see this attempt at maintaining the queensryche catalog. If you don't how good Geoff was back in the day, compared to this you really missed out. He WAS a vocal god. He was one of the few singers to give me goosebumps and make the hair stand up on the back of my neck. AHHH the good ole days.
