KISS: More 'The Casablanca Singles 1974-1982' Details Revealed - Oct. 27, 2012
Rock legends KISS were the first signing to the late Neil Bogart's then-newly formed Casablanca label after he saw and recognized their talent and showmanship at their spectacular performance at a showcase concert at New York City's Le Tang's Ballet Studio in 1973, offering them a contract on the spot. Now, KISS celebrates their 40th anniversary in 2013 having broken box office records set by THE BEATLES and ELVIS PRESLEY, more than 28 U.S. gold albums, the most gold records for any American rock band, 40 million sales in the U.S. and a total exceeding 100 million worldwide.

In their early years, KISS released a total of 29 singles on seven-inch 45 RPM records for the Casablanca label. These were available for sale to the public, used for commercial radio airplay and to promote album sales. Many of these singles had entirely different mixes, edits and material that didn't appear on their vinyl albums. Now for the first time, these musical snapshots of KISS' formative years, which have never been available in a commemorative singles edition, entitled "The Casablanca Singles 1974-1982", on Mercury/Casablanca/UMe, will be available in December in two box set configurations:

* 29 Seven-Inch Vinyl
* 29 CDs (available through all retail)

In typical KISS fashion, these are no ordinary boxes. The sets are housed in a beautiful die cut shadow box with a limited edition etched silver metal plate and ribbon pull magnetic closure custom KISS 45s box with 26 collectible picture sleeves from original single releases around the world, including Japan, Germany, Holland, Spain and Britain. The vinyl collection also features singles from all four solo albums in purple, blue, red and green vinyl with a mask picture sleeve representing each individual member as originally released in the U.K. Both sets include a booklet which tracks the genesis and chart history of each single represented in the package.

"The Casablanca Singles 1974-1982" covers KISS' remarkable eight-year stay on Bogart's label, from their very first, "Nothin' to Lose" b/w "Love Theme from KISS", from their self-titled debut to their very first charted 45, "Kissin' Time". The band's subsequent string of hits included "Dressed to Kill"'s live version of "Rock and Roll All Nite" (#12 on Billboard's Hot 100), "Destroyer"'s "Shout It Out Loud" (#31) and the Top 10 ballad "Beth", "Rock And Roll Over"'s "Hard Luck Woman" (#15) and "Calling Dr. Love" (#16), "Love Gun"'s "Christeen Sixteen" (#25), Ace Frehley's solo hit, "New York Groove" (#13) and "Dynasty"'s "I Was Made for Lovin' You" (#11).

"Even I haven't heard some of this stuff, but this is all part of our master plan to celebrate KISS at this milestone in our careers," says Gene Simmons. "This box set represents us at the very beginning of our career, and documents the band's early success and subsequent growth."

Adds Paul Stanley: "This collection is meant for the true KISS aficionado. The packaging really captures the development of both our music and image at a very crucial period in the band's history."

The special set comes out a month after the release of "Monster", their 20th studio album. Showing the band at the top of its game, "Monster" embodies all that is KISS and the music that first inspired them to pick up their guitars and flame-throwers and don makeup to entertain millions. Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, with longtime members guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer, return stronger than ever with their new album to continue the legacy of the spectacular larger-than-life extravaganza, known as, KISS.

Off topic a little, but I just finished Peter's autobiography....what a nut job. And, other than crying about every little thing that goes wrong in his life (he must have said, "I cried my eyes out" twenty times), he is in complete denial of the way he treats others. He is also in denial of his vocal skills, drumming skills (came off the Psycho Circus tour thinking his playing was at its best....really), and why his solo records didn't sell (crappy music that did not appeal to his Kiss fan base is the real reason, but he blamed Gene and Paul, of course). By the time I finished the book I had no respect for him at all....complete loser.

as a fan of kiss since 1978 i dont support the group anymore at all in this current format, i thought as a fan of over 30 years i would never say a thing but i can't help its the way i feel about it, this lineup today is all wrong and doing it for all the wrong reasons as far as i'm concerned..i didnt buy the last two kiss albumes either have not seen them since farewell tour but have seen ace a few times....its a shame what happened to kiss with all the trash talking but i can only think that it was the original guys that started it for me and it will be those guys that will alway be kiss. as a fan i supported kiss all through the 80's 90's with eric carr , etc but these bozo's today , a guy that was a goffer for ones coffee wearing ace makeup i dont think so...i will have to see about the price on the set to be released but if its to high i will wait , after all its all about the money for these guys today

Cool packaging! To make these more authentic, each one should be sold individually for the price in which they sold upon the date of the release.

Eighties era jammed too. Just glad to be getting music from them. I enjoyed both Sonic Boom and Monster. Hope they get another album of originals out again.
The set is pretty expensive. Nice packaging but could be half the price easy.

Is there a DVD with Gene running over puppies and kittens with a lawnmower onstage? Because he really, actually does that in the name of Satan.

As a long time fan, I have all the remastered versions of their records, so I think I'll pass on the extremely overpriced box set of singles. I am looking forward to seeing what will be on the next Kissology DVD.

It is interesting to note how they still cash in on the original Kiss. This would not sell at all with re-recorded versions by the current line-up like other groups are doing.

To BillyM67. What did u expect from Peter? He may be a cry baby at times, whiner etc... but to me he's always come across as an honest real person. He tells it like it is as he sees it and I've always respected him for it.
And yes, believe it. His playing on the re-union/farewell tour was
of a higher caliber than in the 70's. I've seen enough Youtube videos to be convinced of that. Of course I haven't seen every single show of each tour so he could've had off nights here and there like anybody else but... at least I'll say this - the drum parts were improved in subtle and various ways. I do hear a difference in maturity.

But at least this represents the best period of the band. No scabs, no trend chasing, no reality shows. Pretty cool nostalgic piece.

How people don't slam Eric Singer anywhere near as much as they slam Tommy Thayer. Eric was a KISS member with his own identity and then took someone else's...but having said that, and as a KISS fan since '78, I now accept them both. Monster is a terrific album, best since Revenge and they have both had a hand in the songwriting, both have a vocal, yes they are wearing fake personalities on stage, but I can see through that.
I wish more people could just move on and get over it now, acknowledge the Band have released a great new album, and if you don't accept it then just stick to the era that was your favourite!

Monster, best since Revenge. Well, let's look. Revenge was released in 1992 and besides The first 3 (which are completely classic Kiss at their finest), Kiss Alive, Destroyer, Love Gun, Rock N Roll Over, Revenge is very close to them. Now, then after Revenge came Carnival of Souls, Harder than Revenge but still going in the right direction and could have been a whole lot better if they had more time with it. Then came the reunion. Ca-Ching was all Gene & Paul could think of, and it fucked up Christmas. Kiss were going in the right direction with Revenge and Carnival of souls. Bruce Kulick and Eric Singer had finally came thru to make a great Kiss record. After the reunion Ca-Ching Gene and Ca-ching Paul decided to cash in even more and make Psycho Circus. What the fuck where they thinking releasing that? I'll admit, I like the title track to that cd but the rest is total garbage. And we come to find out later that Ace & Peter barely contributed anything to it as far as playing and the one Ace sung tune "Into the Void". Now, after all is said and done you would "think" they would get back with Bruce & Eric and start agin where they left off, sans makeup. Oh, No, let's keep acting like were in the 70's and 80's and keep the make-up on. Needless to say, Bruce Kulick, obviously had made a small fortune while playing with Kiss, refused to wear Ace's persona and was subsequently replaced by Thayer who will wipe Gene's and Paul's nutsack if asked. Eric stayed cause it's obviously a good paying job and he needed the security and cash. They then release Sonic Boom. Maybe 3 to 4, depending on who you ask, decent tunes. Are they still played on regular rotation on umm, let's see, your IPod? I didn't think so. So now we get Muenster. Notice I how said Muenster? Cause it's cheese motherfucker. Not a memorable song on it and does Kiss in general "think" that simple structured and written songs are what people always want? Not one memorable riff or hook in any tune, no chorus to speak of (which should be in tunes like these). And what's up with Gene singing most of the songs again, like on Sonic Boom? He should have maybe 2 songs at the most! I can tell you, Paul's voice is shot and so is Kiss.

When releasing a new album bash Ace and call him a drunk druggie loser. When in need of cash simply re-release his work with the band and then simply ignore him by talking only about the band as a whole by simply stating "career". I've got news for ya Gene & Paul. If it wasn't for Ace Frehley, you'd never have seen any of my money! Since I'm sure that you two probably have a more favorable royalty rate than the other two original members, I'll pass on anything you release. KI$$ officially died for me in 2001. R.I.P. and thanks again for tarnishing valuable childhood memories. Oh, by the way Van Halen with Roth kicks your loser asses!

Hey, I got a new best friend in HardAttack. Right on the fucking money with everything you said brother. Kiss died (again) for me too in 2001. Kiss is NOT and never was just Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons. It was the combined efforts and vision of four regular guys from NEW YORK. Not 2 former guys from NY who decided to leave for the glitz and the glammer of Beverly Hills. The ironic thing is that current fans treat every incarnation of Kiss as something legit when in fact it is now nothing more than a corporation. Doesany one seriously believe Kiss is still a band? Do you believe Stanley and Simmons bulshit when they say how revived and rejuvinated this 'band' has become while at the same time not letting the other so called members express anything for themselves beyond some inane banter and Tommy doing Ace Frehley's 'thumbs up' expression. What you are witnessing is nothing more than manipulated public imaging and carefully orchestrated encounters with media.
