Deluxe LED ZEPPELIN Reissues Confirmed For 2013 - Nov. 2, 2012
According to The Pulse Of Radio, Jimmy Page confirmed that he's remastering all nine LED ZEPPELIN albums, with each set being readied as deluxe, expanded editions featuring, "extra music and bonus material." Page, who produced all of LED ZEPPELIN's live and studio albums, has served as the band's chief archivist and personally oversaw the remastering of the band's catalogue back in the nearly '90s.

In Page's new interview with Mojo magazine, he explained, "There are a number of LED ZEPPELIN projects that will come out next year because there are different versions of tracks that we have that can be added to the album so there will be box sets of material that will come out, starting next year. There will be one box set per album with extra music that will surface."

There has been no release date set for the box sets and it's not known whether the albums will be released at once or staggered, as was done by PINK FLOYD for their deluxe "Immersion" collections.

Coming on November 19 will be LED ZEPPELIN's new live collection, "Celebration Day", which was recorded and filmed at ZEPPELIN's December 10, 2007 reunion show at London's O2 Arena. The concert film will be released on CD, DVD, Blu-ray disc through Swan Song/Atlantic Records.

How about Remixing the albums instead of just remastering and throwing bonus stuff on?

Really? Why is that? As long as the artists is involved and the multitracks exist the music remains fluid. Many artists have regrets about mixes that were often rushed and on a low buget all those years ago. The originals mixes are still there and we all have them. I would love to hear alternate mixes, especially if Page, who is obviously close to the music is involved. No need to be nostalgic as it can breath new life into the music . In some cases it reveals things not heard so well before. Not aonly that but signal processing is way more advanced now that in the 70's. Look at the King Crimson re-mixes for example.

Because remixing would be the completely wrong move.

The wrong move for you? Don't buy it then. Why should your narrow view limit what others can purchase? Any musician that has recorded usually has some regrets about old mixes.

I'm always amused by the moaning & groaning the blabber babies start up as soon as a classic band re-releases music. Ready, set, cry......

No, in this case it really is moaning and groaning. In the Blabber universe, any time something is reissued, people like you bitch and tag it a "cash grab" with only a marginal understanding of the term.

The reason that people whine is because there's absolutely no reason to re-relase albums that have already been available for 30 years now other than a cash grab.

The way that this will all play out is that they'll have 12-15 new or modified tracks in total and they'll make their fans repurchase 10 full albums at an inflated price in order to get those 12 songs. Again, a money grab.

That, as a blanket statement is absurd. The King Crimson catalog is a great example. What if people like the music in 5.1? Some music is too-dense for the stereo -field and is actually like a new experience in surround. Or, in some cases just a straight re-mix from the multi's can create a new feel and sound. It's not always a "Cash Grab" $18 for a 2 or in some cases 3 disc set which includes a 5.1 remix and bonus video content is not a "Cash Grab" The new ELP re-issues are another example (Yawn as you claim they aren't metal enough)

sounds like its just alternative versions or demo's. I was under the impression from articles earlier this week that there was unreleased material....
I wont be buying remastered material from material that has already been remastered.....

Why not concentrate on more of the live performances, like the '77 North American Tour? Or '75 tour? Inglewood? Those classical piano solos in "No Quarter" fvcking ruled! "Dazed and Confused" was awesome when it was over 20 minutes! Not a lot of people have heard the gem concerts. Why not just enhance and package those?

I guess having them Re-Mastered will make them sound a little differnet, but I haven't exactly worn the 1st Re-Mastering one's out yet, so, we'll see, might get a couple. They are one of the Top Bands In History, my friends. Every album in the 70's is Purely Classic. Houses is my fav. then IV, and so on down the line. In Through...is a great gem, along with of course Physical Graffiti. Something for everyone.

the amount of zep material i already own is ridiculous. numerous live albums, an early box set, the song remains the same, the complete works box set. i think i have enough already, the market is saturated with them as it is. if you guys are THAT in need of a cash influx then play some more goddamn gigs.

Remastering these again is a big mistake. The master tapes sounding incredibly worn for the 90's remasters and they are going to sound far worse today.

Unless they plan on using the 192/96Khz digital transfers from the early 90's as the source, this is going to be a disaster and leave the albums sounding worse.

...is whatever "remastering" they're going to do, enough to make it sound SO different that it's worth spending (what will likely be) hundreds of dollars on this?

The thinking is, a Zep fan will plunk money down on whatever they put out. But if you think about it, will you be able to hear such a difference between the old stuff and whatever comes out next year? More than likely, no. (Remember - when it comes to music, your ears are a huge part of equation.)

Don't get me wrong - I love Zep as much as anyone. But I have this Japanese box set of albums replicas and it sounds pretty damn good to me.

Another thing - we kept hearing how "the vaults are empty" and "there's nothing left". Now, all of a sudden there's all these "alternate / demo" versions?

What I'd much rather hear...live stuff from 75 or 77, when they would play for 3-4 hours. That would be awesome.

If the new remasters sound anything like the Mothership remaster, this will be worthwhile. Remastering the catalog of the most killer material in rock history of all time every 20 years is definitely reasonable and worthwhile, actually NECESSARY. LZ in even better quality is a no-brainer for any real rock fan. I will buy them plus the amazing Celebration Day blu-ray, the movie was incredible in the theater 2 weeks back, really amazing.

Page's increasingly desperate attempts to flog a dead horse merely underlines his lack of new musical output since 1980.

How many more re-masters can there be?

The recent vinyl replica box set sounds great, so there's no need to remaster the CD versions. The only better sounding versions are when listening to my original vinyls I bought as a kid. For those that don't have the above mentioned box set, this is a good thing but I don't see how they could improve the mix anymore than they already have with the stereo CD format. 5.1 surround sound mixes is the only thing that really needs to be done. If these new sets don't include that, then there's not much point.
