RUSH Frontman Comments On Upcoming 'RockWalk' Induction - Nov. 8, 2012
Guitar Center has announced the upcoming induction of renowned rock legends RUSH into the retailer's historic RockWalk. The exclusive, invite-only induction ceremony is set to take place on Tuesday, November 20 at noon at Guitar Center's Hollywood location on Sunset Boulevard. A special guest speaker will open the event by reflecting upon RUSH's musical impact and welcoming the band to the stage.

"We are very pleased to have been chosen by our peers and fellow musicians for induction in Guitar Center's RockWalk," said RUSH's Geddy Lee. "It is an honor to have our names added to this illustrious list of great and highly talented musicians."

"Not only is RUSH extraordinary as a band, but each member is incredibly talented in their own right," said Dave Weiderman, Chairman of Guitar Center's RockWalk. "With nearly thirty years together, this group has consistently delivered skilled musicianship, experimental-drive and stylistically diverse rock to music fans worldwide. In short — RUSH is long deserving of being honored by Guitar Center's RockWalk."

Guitar Center's RockWalk is dedicated to honoring those artists who have made a significant impact and lasting contribution to the growth and evolution of rock 'n' roll, blues and R&B. As the newest RockWalk inductees, RUSH's handprints will reside alongside the handprints, signatures, and faces of other equally accomplished musicians and innovators such as Eric Clapton, George Martin, Jimmy Page, IRON MAIDEN, Carlos Santana, Johnny Cash, VAN HALEN, AC/DC, AEROSMITH, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, B.B. King, Stevie Wonder, RUN-D.M.C. and QUEEN, among numerous others.

Geddy is one of the best vocalists ever. Rush is easily one of my top 5 maybe 10 favorite bands ever.

Lee has one of the coolest voices in rock history. Although an acquired taste, it's unique, and he's got emotional and vocal range and a convincing, almost wisdomous delivery that not only really fits their music, but elevates it. Not to mention Lee/Lifeson/Peart musicianship, songwriting, chemistry, and being an A+++ live act.

Seriously, they are using Rush as a marketing gimmick to further sales and disguising it as some great honor that has been bestowed when in fact it's an unpaid endorsement.

Just like the shitty R&RHOF.

Fuck all that shit. When a huge corporation wants you to make a public appearance to drive their sales and doesn't pay you, you are getting ripped off.

Although I kinda get what you're saying just remember that no one has to buy anything. An honor is an honor whether it's altruistic in nature or disguising an ulterior motive. I for one, just love it when my favorite group Rush finally after all these years is beginning to be recognized as one of the leaders and innovators in a field that is awash with an endless sea of mediocrity. As a fan, I've always felt that these guys were on the same playing field as highly acclaimed groups like Led Zeppelin, The Who, Pink Floyd etc... for many years they were considered kind of like an underground band or a nerdy cult band but they broke through to the mainstream on a popular level (not on a musical level Thank God) in say... the last 10 to 15 years or so. I say well deserved!

Thanks for responding VitalSign.

I'm just tired of the johnny-come-lately praise being heaped on Rush. When I was in high school and got into them in 2001 absolutely no one else cared about them.

I do not want them to become like Led Zeppelin where people are treated like assholes for not owning and praising every album to death. They made records for people that did not particularly find everything else out there to be the cream of the crop. In my opinion one is a Rush fan because they decided against what was popular or critically acceptable and used their own judgement to regard them so highly.

I simply do not want them to become a band that is so revered people are listening to them based on their reputation and the perceived credibility that has come with being a big fan of them. I do not think it is fair to their music for people to jump on the bandwagon and heap praises on them because they were told to do so and not because there was a genuine interest that blossomed into real passion for the music.

I liked it better when Rush sucked and the few people that disagreed knew better than that. Rush automatically ending up on playlists of people that did not give a shit the last thirty years because all of a sudden it's cool to like them is beyond going against what this music represents.

Maybe the way I see the band is skewed because the first years of being a fan are totally the opposite of what it is now, I don't know, but something doesn't sit right with everyone coming out of the woodwork to give them awards they should have gotten 20 years ago and everyone claiming to be influenced by them when most remained silent on the issue back then rubs me the wrong way. Dimebag for example was a fan, but you would only know that base don ancient photos of him from the 80's. That is just one example, but the Dave Grohl's of the world claiming they are huge fans while they have absolutely nothing in common with the hero from 2112 and are in no position to identify with the sentiments of "Natural Science" again, just leaves a sour taste.

Saw Rush in Tampa last Saturday and they were flawless once again. My first concert was Rush in 1981 the Moving Pictures tour and they were mind blowing, I was just 13 then and they made a big impact on me as far as music. Congrats to Rush!!!

Some of you fans are insane, G C doesn't need more publicity, like all Rush fans play instruments! GC does yearly guitar and drums competitions, packaged into a great show with pro guests. Rush is a band for whoever gets them, I also started during high school and Signals. It is different now, wish I knew how kids get turn on to Rush nowadays...
