SOUNDGARDEN's 'King Animal' Projected To Sell 70K-75K First Week - Nov. 14, 2012
"King Animal", the first collection of all-new material in 16 years from grunge legends SOUNDGARDEN, and first since the group reunited in 2010, is likely to sell between 70,000 and 75,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to industry web site Hits Daily Double. The estimate was based on one-day sales reports compiled after the record arrived in stores on November 13 via Tom Whalley's new record label, a partnership between his Seven Four Entertainment and Republic Records.

"King Animal" track listing:

01. Been Away Too Long
02. Non-State Actor
03. By Crooked Steps
04. A Thousand Days Before
05. Blood On The Valley Floor
06. Bones of Birds
07. Taree
08. Attrition
09. Black Saturday
10. Halfway There
11. Worse Dreams
12. Eyelid's Mouth
13. Rowing

SOUNDGARDEN will perform at the legendary Electric Lady Studios in New York City as part of SiriusXM's Town Hall series which will also feature an intimate question-and-answer session moderated by FOO FIGHTERS drummer Taylor Hawkins. It will take place today (Wednesday, November 14) and will air on Pearl Jam Radio, channel 22, on Friday, November 16 at 6:00 p.m. ET.

SOUNDGARDEN singer Chris Cornell was joined by the other three members of the band for a surprise six-song set during Cornell's solo show on Monday night (November 12) at Bowery Ballroom in New York City. According to Brooklyn Vegan, the full band played six songs: "Fell On Black Days", "Blow Up The Outside World", "Black Hole Sun", "Outshined" and new tunes "Halfway There" and "Black Saturday".

Earlier in the evening, the band played a 10-song set for the "Live On Letterman" webcast, while also taping an appearance on "Late Show With David Letterman" which aired that night.

SOUNDGARDEN reunited in 2010 after a 13-year break, releasing a retrospective collection called "Telephantasm" and a concert album titled "Live On I-5".

A real Solid album ....

Has touches of earlier 'garden throwing back to the Louder than love era yet follows on from Down on the upside ..

It's Soundgarden through and through
Kim's guitar work is as standoutish as ever ...
And Matt is an animal behind the kit

pathetic sales, rush beat them with 103 thousand copies out of the gate. This should have sold at least a hundred thousand. Where are all the fans, get out there and buy a fuckin cd once in a while.

Forget Van Halen, forget Aerosmith and Kiss, THIS IS THE COMEBACK ALBUM OF THE YEAR!!

Bought it on the first day and have heard it all the way through several times already and I'm blown away! The latest from Rush and Black Country Communion have been my favorite rock albums of the year and King Animal is right up there with them! For $9.99, you can't go wrong!

This is the kind of album that stores should have trouble keeping on the shelves, and if people who normally didn't listen to Soundgarden gave it a chance they'd end up buying it.

In my opinion there are 4 or five excellent songs and the rest I could have lived without. I have to say the strong ones hold up well against any of their previous recordings

Now they've returned with a swift and furious assault to the ears. King Animal is awesome, a true return to form after the sub-par Down On The Upside. Beats the new Aerosmith, that's for sure.

I love soundgarden. This is not really the Soundgarden sound. It's a hybrid of some of Cornell's side bands and touches of old Soundgarden riffs. I miss the darkness that they always had. I couldn't tell you one song that stands out on this album. I was disappointed in the best of album they put out and I'm really disappointed about this cd. Not one song on this cd is really heavy. All the songs kind of meander between a little heavy here and then a little experimental there. I don't know what anyone else is listening to when they call this a return to form.

Why would anyone compare the releases of Aerosmith and Soundgarden? Is it because they've come out around the same time and hadn't put out any new music in awhile? That's the only thing I could compare between the two bands legacies. Please stop making those comparisons. They don't even exist in the same musical universe.

Not what I was necessarily expecting. I can see where wizardofdoom1975 is coming from. However, I really don't need new material that sounds exactly like their prior work. I already listen to my personal 26 "best of Soundgarden" songs often enough that I'm just happy they have some new material.

True, without 'Blood on the Valley Floor', 'Non-State Actor', and 'Crooked Steps', maybe I would be scratching my head more about this album, but I have to say that I also really dig 'Taree'; 'Rowing' was unexpected and very cool; 'Eyelid's Mouth' is maybe a bit repetitive at first, but definitely picks up halfway through. All in all, getting 6 or 7 new Soundgarden songs that I personally like, nothing to complain about here!
