Rig Rundown With SMASHING PUMPKINS' BILLY CORGAN (Video) - Nov. 20, 2012
On October 18, Premier Guitar's Rebecca Dirks was on location in St. Louis, Missouri, talking with the SMASHING PUMPKINS' Billy Corgan. In the segment below, Billy discusses his modular preamp system, the handful of pedals he relies on, and his signature Fender Billy Corgan Strats.

Although the material on SMASHING PUMPKINS' latest CD, "Oceania" is part of the PUMPKINS' in-progress 44-song cycle, "Teargarden By Kaleidyscope", Corgan told The Pulse Of Radio why he decided to carve "Oceania" out as its own album. "We decided to release 'Oceania' as a standalone project because we'd been doing a song at a time as part of the 'Teargarden By Kaleidyscope' project, and we found that because of the voracious nature of the Internet, our songs were being swallowed up so fast that people didn't even know that they'd come out," he said. "So when we looked at it, we said, what can we do that will garner at least some length of attention? An album, of course, would do that, at least for that one hour hopefully."

"Oceania" follows up 2007's comeback album "Zeitgeist" and is the first PUMPKINS record to feature the current lineup of Mike Byrne on drums, Nicole Fiorentino on bass and Jeff Schroeder on guitar.

is the best S.P release since the mid 90's. It's far better than Zeitgeist.

'Zeitgeist' was pretty heavy.. The vocals were somehow too loud within the mix.. There's still some cool songs on it, though. 'Oceania' is really solid, and he's utilizing his strengths: catchy, strong songs, memorable melodies, an actual band vibe, as they recorded this album as a band, with the new members. It gels and it's cool to see someone who can write great stuff back to doing just that again.

Zeitgeist had some great tracks like United States and Bleeding The Orchid, not to mention to b-side, Stellar. Too bad it was buried in shitty production/mixing that rendered the songs lifeless.

Oceania is getting things back on track. Billy has finally proven he can carry the band name on his own.

I haven't been a SP fan since Mellon Collie, but Oceania is a good listen.

One bad-ass'd album, 'King Animal' is. Between digging that and the new Zeppelin Live 'Celebration Day': my head is spinning rapturously on some new sonic cool!

Guess what, RetardoAct? Billy wrote and recorded 99% of Siamese Dream on his own. It's always been the Billy Corgan band.

I've liked some SP stuff here and there but I would never have called myself a fan but I bought Oceania and I think it is a really good album. There are some great songs on there and it also sounds good (as in it was recorded well).
