MACHINE HEAD: 'Machine F**king Head Live' First-Week Sales Revealed - Nov. 21, 2012
"Machine Fucking Head Live", the new live album from San Francisco Bay Area metallers MACHINE HEAD, sold 3,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release. It's the band's second live effort; "Hellalive" came out in 2003.

MACHINE HEAD's most recent studio album, "Unto The Locust", sold more than 17,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 22 on The Billboard 200 chart — putting MACHINE HEAD in the Top 25 for the first time in the band's 17-year history.

"Machine Fucking Head Live" was recorded at various tour stops across the globe last year. It features songs from throughout the band's expansive catalog, including crowd favorites like "Imperium", "Aesthetics of Hate", "Locust", "Ten Ton Hammer", "This is the End" and "Halo".

"The Head Cases [MACHINE HEAD's nickname for the band's fans] have been so intense on this tour cycle that we had to start capturing the shows, especially with technology making it so much easier to record," said frontman Robb Flynn. "We culled some of the best nights where the band and crowd were on fire and made a badass, nearly two-hour, double live album, which is a great documentation of where the band is at, 18 years deep."

"Machine Fucking Head Live" track listing:

01. I Am Hell (Sonata in C#)
02. Be Still And Know
03. Imperium
04. Beautiful Mourning
05. The Blood, The Sweat, The Tears
06. Locust
07. This Is The End
08. Aesthetics Of Hate
09. Old
10. Darkness Within
11. Bulldozer
12. Ten Ton Hammer
13. Who We Are
14. Halo
15. Davidian

"Machine Fucking Head Live" was mixed and mastered at Trident Studios in Pacheco, California by Juan Urteaga and Robb Flynn.

Flynn underwent successful surgery on November 14 at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minnesota to repair his double inguinal hernia.

He had planned to go under the knife in January 2013 after completing a North American tour with DETHKLOK, ALL THAT REMAINS and THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER. He had hoped to continue the trek despite extreme discomfort, but it became too difficult to carry on.

Flynn has returned home to California to recover, rest and recuperate. The band will rejoin the tour in Portland, Oregon on November 24.

MACHINE HEAD is currently seeking a new label home following the expiration of the band's contract with longtime record company Roadrunner Records.

that's a pretty piss-poor figure for such a killer band.

I think it's a pretty decent figure for a week of sales of a metal live album nowadays. MH are not very underground, but they're not Metallica, they still have to count mostly on metalheads to buy such a thing.

Too bad but the studio versions are just as good. Maybe a DVD would have been better?

They have never been a stellar live band. Decent, but nothing great. I wouldn't pay for this

I've never really liked live albums. I would have much preferred a DVD with some behind the scenes footage.

i agree. In the dvd/streaming age, live albums are just redudant.

It will be interesting to see what label Machine Head sign to. If they sign to a Nuclear Blast or Century Media type label, they will not get the same distributional benefits that they had under Roadrunner/Warner. Plus it would be kind of weird seeing them on a label like that anyway.

If they don't sign to a major, they wouldn't have many options outside of a metal label though surely.

Nuclear Blast scored 28,000 units in the first week for Anthrax. Meshuggah puts up strong numbers with them too. I could see them being a better fit for MH than Century Media. I wouldn't expect much major label interest for a band like MH.

Piss poor album to be fair, not a patch on Hellalive. Which is a great album and one you guys above should listen to before you right off live albums, it's a classic.

CD + DVD package would have been nice.

Best live band out there now. They needed something new to show off the last three cd's that were absolutely stellar. Yes, I would love to see a DVD to go with it too.

It was a mistake to release this without a dvd. I like the band , but without the dvd I doubt I will buy this.

I got it for the stuff from the last three albums, but there's no question a DVD should've been released.

Actually, it's not too bad for a live album that was probably only released to finish up their contract. It'll be interesting to see where they go from here. RR should try to keep them, they're a cornerstone band for that label, but they already let 'em go once, so we'll see.

...if you bother to listen to it. (Yes, I bought it)

MH are a great band, they went through their sh*t period in the late 90's / early 00's, but that's long over.

TTAOE was a pretty good "comeback" album, but The Blackening is amazing. UTL is excellent as well.

Nothing against MH or anything, but some two-word band names sound better with the word "fucking" in the middle than others.

"Twisted Muthafuckin Sister". That sounds right.

"Machine Fuckin Head". Awkward. Kind of silly.

FYI all live albums go back to the studio for patches & overdubs. Thats just how it works. For the Record Hellalive had to patched up because said guitar player from the burning red is a hack!!!

That video for Imperium is fucking intense! I especially like the drum footage -- McClain is amazing. A DVD would definitely be better.
