TOM MORELLO: Not Everybody In RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE Wants To Make New Album - Nov. 22, 2012
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello has revealed to NME.com that certain members of the band are "not ready" to start writing and recording a new studio album.

The influential group, which disbanded in 2000 but reunited in 2007 and has played sporadic live shows ever since, will issue a deluxe edition of its classic 1992 self-titled debut on November 27, complete with unreleased demos and tons of live material.

Asked about the potential for a new album from RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, Morello said: "No plans for anything. This RAGE boxset is the first official RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE release in 12 years. We're on a once-every-12-years pace to release something."

When pressed to elaborate on why this is the case, Morello responded: "When bands make albums, it's because everybody wants to, and that's not the case with RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE at the moment. Everyone in the band gets along very well, we consider each other friends and comrades in arms, but people sometimes don't feel ready to do it. I don't have one minute of one day that's not filled with music, or politics, or family. If at some point RAGE were to get it together to work more, I would be open to that, but that's not on the table right now."

"Rage Against The Machine XX", as the new reissue is called, will come out in three versions: a regular single disc, a two-CD/one-DVD package, and a deluxe box set featuring the CDs, two DVDs, the album on vinyl picture disc, plus a 40-page booklet and a double-sided poster.

The first CD will feature three hard-to-find B-sides along with the original album, while the second CD will contain the rare, original RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE 1991 demo tape that helped land the group their record deal with Sony.

The first DVD will contain RAGE's free concert in Finsbury Park on June 2010. Also included are music videos and other live concert performance clips. The second DVD will feature RAGE's first public performance ever at Cal State North Ridge in October 1991, plus various rare early concert clips.

Morello told Billboard about the release, "We're really psyched to be putting this out for the fans . . . I want to really give them a motherlode of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE history, past and present."

When I was younger, a buddy and I would debate who would "get off their ass and fucking do something already" between Zack and Axl.

Flash forward - Axl has put out a record and probably played over 200 shows. Zack has released nothing and played maybe 50 shows.

I love Rage and I'd never miss a show of theirs, but nothing spells "cashing in" quite like playing only a few shows a year (if any) and only putting out re-releases.

Zach put out two albums, a cover album and a live album with RATM, as well as a solo-track produced by Trent Reznor and an EP with One Day As A Lion in all the time it took Axl to shit out a single record.

Please remove your head from your ass and consider the facts.

Take your time till you have a good album, not just an album. Nowadays even Maiden has trouble putting out good new music, Rush's new album may be best by any band putting out new music lately...Metallica, of course has sucked for decades!

Maiden? Rush? Metallica? RATM? Seriously maybe you should listen to some bands that are remotely relivant and diverse.

You didn't list one band on there that has released anything remotely good in over 20 years. Rage suck anyways but my god.

Looks like we will get more Nightwatchman. Because I need to see an accomplished and original guitarist play three chord, acoustic folk strumming some more. Yippee! I went to see him live in SF at a benefit for the three R-tard hikers in Iran before I had actually heard his Nightwatchman act. I was so disappointed. I figured he would do something interesting with the guitar but it was embarrassingly simplistic drivel and he was still fucking up left and right. It was bad open mic night quality. Plus the chick hiker that got released was having the time of her life!! You could immediately tell that her and the others were professional protesters that wanted to get caught, figuring they would be released after no more than a week or two and have their little minute of fame, and then shit got real. That was the best thing that ever happened to her and she was loving the attention. Her little crowd address was something she had dreamt of giving since first seeing video of 60's protests speeches. It was so fake and self indulgent. If the Iranian military would have busted through the door that night, I would have gladly grabbed her and handed her pretentious, psuedo-intellectual ass to them immediately.

Read again douche, the closest to a good album in last 10 years has been the new Rush. Tell us what's in your stupid list of great albums in last 10 years? You'll be laughed at because it probably has Metallica, BLS, Muse, Kings of Leon, and half dozen Metal bands that don't sing, but growl, not my style. Everyone knows even Maiden hasn't put out a good package since the 80s. My feeling is your list most likely has pop artists and has beens like George Lynch, who is nothing without Dokken! The douche plays small clubs while Rage has the luxury of playing and selling out big venues when they please.

RATM = 3 studio albums and 1 covers album in 15 years of existence.

Audioslave = 3 studio albums in their 6 year existence.

This is not a crack on either one as I like both (and Soundgarden), but to me, it says that when they only want to, for lack of better words, rage against a machine, they pigeonhole themselves into only writing songs about that.

With Audioslave, they freed themselves from that and were able to create more music.

The fact that they are releasing a box set is in itself ridiculous. I mean I love box sets but come on man, this is a band who tried to be as left-wing / communism-adoring / capitalism-hating as possible, wore red stars on every chance and now they are releasing a cash-in industry-standart box-set??? I'm pretty sure that Zack is against it, he seems to be the only person in that band without a luxurious, rock star lifestyle and also some integrity. Also, I have to point out that, the fact that Morello lives in a Hollywood mansion makes me remember this hilarious Monty Python sketch:

For those who don't know, fans & ignorant haters alike, the 1st RATM album
will be remaster after all these years, or expected to be. That is what all bands do, except Rage hasn't been doing an album every 2 yrs like many bands out there that have put crappy material for the last 10-20 years. I am sure when Rage has a good package to offer, they will record it, but for now,
a new box set is great...

Do/did you download music for free and not pay for it? Congrats, it's your own fault.

And for all of you that are still whining that they are really corporate shills and full of shit. I agree but almost every gimmick is full of shit:

Judas Priest - Leather/Biker image - Well, the only guy I have seen on a bike (I am sure some of them rode at some point) Is Rob and he loves Dode. Of course that is cool, but the image is exactly that, an image. The music kicks my dick in though, so whatever.

Slipknot - Crazy/Insanity image - These guys are closer to the Trailer Park bingo club than they are are crazy... I would be lying if I said that first album wasn't heavy as fuck though.

Black Sabbath - occult yada yada image - Nothing to say here, they have already said it. Also fucking amazing forever and ever.

Man o War - WTF?

Slayer - Devil/Occult imagery - Tom is Catholic and proud of it... Next...

Black Metal - LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL Anyone can set fire to something...

I could just go on forever and let's face it, so could all of you. Just focus on the actual music.

If you dislike Rage because you actually think the music is shit, then Salute.

People need to realize how much of a pain in the ass RATM were to each other during those 1st 3 albums. Not an easy task to get someone off their ass to record with the band when, for whatever reason, that person didn't feel like recording that day. I'm guessing Zack is the hold up-I've read somewhere how lazy he can be...like Robert Plant, who was the sole hold up in the now disbanded Zeppelin reunion tour. While both are legendary in their positions, they have been very difficult to deal with band and business-wise to get any kind of compromising out of them.
