POSSESSED Working On New Music; 'Barge To Hell' Performance Footage Posted Online - Dec. 8, 2012
Fan-filmed video footage of POSSESSED's performance on Barge To Hell — the world's most extreme metal cruise, which sailed Monday, December 3, 2012 from Miami, Florida to Nassau, Bahamas and returned to the real world on Friday, December 7 — can be seen below.

POSSESSED 2012 is:

* Jeff Becerra - Vocals
* Emilio Marquez (SADISTIC INTENT) - Drums
* Robert Cardenas (AGENT STEEL, COFFIN TEXTS) - Bass
* Kelly McLauchlin (DIABOLIC, UNHOLY GHOST, PESSIMIST) - Guitar
* Daniel Gonzalez (NAILSHITTER, OCCISAS) - Guitar

In a recent interview with MetalTitans.com, McLauchlin stated about POSSESSED's plans for a new studio album, "We have music and basic song structures for three songs written so far. We want to take our time and craft songs which will definitely sound like classic POSSESSED. The plan is to record an EP/demo, which we will shop to labels, and then do the full-length. No word on any release date, as we are still in writing mode. We are holding off playing any shows until the end of the year. I expect we will enter the studio sometime early 2013."

Regarding the songwriting process for the new material, McLauchlin said, "Well, so far we have been writing the music together as a band, between me, our other guitarist Daniel, and drummer Emilio. So far, it has been that Dan or I will have some song ideas and riffs, maybe an intro riff, and then we work with the drummer for the song structures and arrangements. We all contribute ideas when it comes to tweaking the riffs, and try different things before an idea is finalized. We are taking our time with it, and are actually re-working some of the songs now. I am working on some new riffs now, which are very much within the traditional POSSESSED feel and style, with a modern/updated twist!! Die-hard POSSESSED fans will not be disappointed!!"

Becerra previously stated about POSSESSED's current lineup: "I am quite happy with this new lineup and truly respect every member in the band now. It just makes everything so much easier and worthwhile whenever everyone is as into the music as I am. Also the professionalism and dedication is unwavering. These guys came in with guns blazing and knew the songs so well that even the first time around they were playing them almost perfectly."

In the October 2008 issue of Guitar World magazine, Becerra talked candidly about the 1989 shooting that left him paralyzed from the chest down, his battle with drugs and alcohol, the early days of the Bay Area thrash metal scene and his future as a wheelchair-bound frontman for the death metal legends.

Regarding the robbery that left him paralyzed, Becerra said: "The first bullet went into my chest about six inches above the nipple, went through the lung and stuck on the inside of my spine. I put my hand up as I was going down, and the second bullet clipped the top of my ring finger off. But at least it didn't hit me in the head. So I was on the ground, and the first guy put the gun to my head and pulled the trigger, and the gun jammed — luckily for me, some criminals don't know how to clean their automatic weapons."

Jeff is not only a talented man, but an enormous inspiration. Wheelchair bound and he STILL gigs. That's some character he's got.

“Virulent new players joined Slayer on the cutting edge, playing with skill to match their guts.

In junior high, outside San Francisco, Larry Lalonde and Jeff Becerra played UFO songs in Blizzard. They wore sleeveless American flag T-shirts and grew hair to their shoulders, the farthest their mothers would permit.

Upon reaching high school the pair were recruited by Mike Torrao and Mike Sus for the less-wholesome Possessed. “Their singer had shot himself in the head,” says Becerra, “and they didn’t have a bass player. I wanted to go heavier anyway.

I was into being heavy as far as drinking beer, going out with as many girls as I could, and playing as fast and heavy as I could, like Motörhead. I asked Mike what the name of the band was, and he said ‘Possessed.’ I said it sounded kinda satanic, and he said, ‘Well, it is!’ That was kinda scary.”

Apparently the link to the particular demo is now dead. Bummer, eh? Perhaps someone reading this knows of another location and, can make it known to the blog author? I was lucky enough to find that site while the link was still active.

Anybody else have it?

It really proves you're a metalhead when you still play live shows in a wheelchair. Horns up!

JEFF BECERRA slagging off Jeff Becerra?? Im confused.

Kinda agree, it's not Possessed without at least Mike Torrao. This will just be a pretend Possessed and be a dissapointment, but I hope I'm wrong.

I seen them twice in Houston and that first show had a brutal and vicious pit and some monstrous mexican dude was fucking shit up. The second time wasn't too shabby pit-wise and Jeff had us all chanting "666" over and over before they smashed into us with "The Exorcist"! Possesed is without a doubt the greatest thrash metal band in the whole world followed by Destruction, Kreator, Sodom and pre-South of Heaven Slayer.

Check out my musical project, Astraea Invade, on a don't-give-a-fuck violent, satanic thrash metal that is pure god damned Possessed (and Vondur) worship!

Ever heard the two demos Mike did as Possessed after Jeff got shot? Two words to describe them both- shit sandwich. And that's why there was no Possessed record after Jeff. He had his chance,he couldn't do it. He needs to stick to mowing lawns for a living. I know he started Possessed, but he sure as hell couldn't finish it.

Its not the real Possessed without Larry Lalonde or Mike Torrao. Oh well, hopefully a paralyzed Jeff & a bunch of hired guns can put out something cool, well see.

I sincerely admire Jeff Becerra for his strenght but come on, anybody who knows Possessed story also knows that Mike Torrao was the driving force behind them (I'm obviously NOT talking about the demos he recorded in the 90's, that's another story).
Would you be excited if ex-members of Death made a record calling themselves "DEATH"?

I am glad to know there will be some new Possessed music.

They sound pretty good to me in these videos, the drummer is doing a real good job as well as Jeff and all the others who come from a similar music background as Possessed.

I wonder why Jeff never plays bass on stage that would be really good... Brian McAlpin of Psychotic Waltz does

I'm very skeptical to say the least about the idea of reactivating a band which started 30 years ago and lasted only 5 years, with one original member who wasn't the main songwriter back in the day and a bunch of younger guys who can play the old material competently but were nowhere near involved in the beginnings of death metal as a style and scene...

But we'll see.

COMMENT | They should have kept the Sadistic Intent line-up

The truth is, this would have been a lot more exciting if Jeff would have kept the Sadistic Intent line-up. BTW, Emilio is not in Sadistic Intent. S.I. recently toured Europe and they played a new song that they originally wrote for the new Possessed material and it sounded amazing! Judging by that song, it really would have been a great addition to the Possessed catalog. Sadistic Intent lives and breathes the Metal of Death since 1987, it's too bad that they are no longer in Possessed.

Before he was shot, 1989/'90 I think, I met him at a party. I was smashed and singing Possessed songs to him doing my best impression. He just laughed. He'd been out of the scene for a while by then.
I was a singer/bassist in a Bay Area metal band at the time so we hit it off.
I remember him taking me outside and showing me his vintage hot rod. We sat in the back and drank and talked about Possessed. Kinda weird memory of him. Shortly after, he was shot...glad he survived.
Very unique voice for sure!
