DEEP PURPLE Singer Talks To 'Evenings With Rebecca Levingston' About His Long Career (Audio) - Dec. 13, 2012
Vocalist Ian Gillan of legendary hard rockers DEEP PURPLE recently spoke about his long career to Rebecca Levingston of the "Evenings With Rebecca Levingston" show on Australia's ABC Brisbane radio station. You can now listen to the chat using the audio player below.

Interview (audio):

DEEP PURPLE will release its 19th studio album on April 26, 2013 via earMUSIC, the Hamburg, Germany-based international rock label which is part of Edel Group.

After various songwriting sessions in Europe, the band recorded and mixed the album in Nashville, Tennessee with producer Bob Ezrin (KISS, PINK FLOYD, PETER GABRIEL, ALICE COOPER, KANSAS). The CD is expected to contain 13 tracks, including "Out Of Hand", "Hell To Pay", "Weirdistan", "Uncommon Man" and "Above And Beyond". The latter song references the band's late keyboard player, Jon Lord, in the lyric "Souls having touched are forever entwined."

According to earMUSIC, the album is "rumored to be the perfect match from the original spirit of '70s PURPLE, and a fresh and modern production."

Regarding the album title, Gillan offered the following cryptic comment to Classic Rock: "There's a big question mark over the name at the moment. And possibly an exclamation mark as well. You can read what you like into what I've just said. All will become clear — as mud — later on. That's all I'm allowed to say. The question mark and the exclamation mark might get you intrigued."

earMUSIC will reveal details about the new DEEP PURPLE album in real time as soon as they will become available on a dedicated web site where all band members will also be able to post and interact with the fans: www.deeppurple2013.com.

Ian's answer to the last question, I thought, was well said.

He's turning into Bono. Oh come on man."my voice is in great shape"? Gret compared to what? Last night? Yesterday? He can't even come close to the range he had in his 20's and 30's. For a guy who sees himself as an "intellectual" now he isn't very honest with himself. The reall Parrallex effect is how he spent the last 40 years boozing away his amazing voice. Last time I saw him on the Rapture tour it was on a revolving stage and every time the stage turned you could see him going to his chest (full of booze) on the ground behind the drums. He kept going back to it over & over..it was truly sad. Why? Can't imagine what he does after the show! Had he taken care of his voice like many singers have (Dio, Hughes, Rodgers etc) he would still be able to do "Child in Time" He says he doesn't do the song because it has lost its "relevancy" over the years. What a joke. (as if the lyrics of most Purple songs remain relevant anyway?) ..He just cant hit the notes now. The guy was just tremendous in the 70's and 80's and more recnetly did some good work with IOMMI. He's put more effort into bashing Blackmore than being creative in the last 2o years. Even Jon Lord said "He just can't do it anymore" and that was one of his last quotes about Gillan. After reading the Colin Hart book, it appears Gillan isn't a very good guy after all...and most people think it is Blackmore who is the ego maniac! Blackmore was often right...
