JASON NEWSTED's New Band To Film First-Ever Video This Weekend - Dec. 13, 2012
NEWSTED, the new band led by former METALLICA, VOIVOD and FLOTSAM AND JETSAM bassist Jason Newsted, will film its first-ever video on Saturday, December 15. In addition, Jason will announce the release date for his new project's debut CD tomorrow (Friday, December 14) via his official web site, NewstedHeavyMetal.com..

In a recent interview with Eddie Trunk's "Friday Night Rocks" radio show on New York's Q104.3 FM, Newsted stated about his plans to release original music via his newly launched official web site, "Whatever it ends up being — if it's five songs, 20 songs, 50 songs… I don't even know what the heck I'm gonna do. I have so much music from over the years. I have a bunch of new stuff, I have so many mixes of projects with people — new players, young players, old-school players like myself — so I'm just trying to figure out exactly what I wanna unleash on everybody first. That's kind of what it's coming down to — the timing of things and how I wanna hit people with it, and which stuff [to release first]."

Asked how he plans to release his music, Jason said, "I see a couple of the old avenues still being there that will always be there in the purest form — making the vinyl and everybody having the special-edition vinyl to be able to read the lyrics, stuff like you and I loved the most, that's the closest to us that's the most endearing and the most personal. So that's always gonna be there and I never wanna dismiss that, so that will be percentage of it for the fans that really dig the real American kick-ass guitar music … And then the newest avenues that I'm just really now learning about as I expose myself to all this stuff… I saw a piece of one of ['That Metal Show' espisodes on VH1 Classic] and somebody talked about DOWN and some other bands doing four tracks at a time in EP form every few months, letting people have some fresh metal. I think that's a pretty good concept, a pretty good formula — I'm hip to that, [and] I'd like to warm up to that. Since it is new territory for me, I'm really open to that idea; I think it's a good way to spread stuff."

Does this band have a name? Or are we going to keep calling it "Jason Newsted's Band".

Not hating, I love jason. Just a little weird to be this far into the process with no actual name for the project.

It's called Newsted. Pretty sure it's in the first sentence.

DMR:

Try reading the very first sentence of the article.

That might clue you in some.

seriously though, what does Geoff Tate think of this? While we're at it, I'd also like to hear Portnoy and Corey Taylor's input as well

I'd also like Mustaine's two cents, seeing as it is Metallica and he's in politics now.

Tell your guitar player to buy a distortion pedal or turn the gain on his amp past 3. This sounds like more Load shit, which is pretty much THE album that killed Metallica.

He will never get the success he had in Metallica. But I actually don't think he wants that. I think he just genuinely likes playing music, so I fully support him. Unlike some people in 'the biz' *cough* Gene Simmons etc etc *cough*

not that im a big fan of his or Metallica. but its good he's making music, he's probably knows just like me and you that its not gonna be huge even if it will be great but so what, he's probably doing it more for love of music then anything else, but good sales are always a plus. good luck

Haven't heard it, but it will definitely be better than Death Magnetic. Of course, a healthy dose of influenza is better than Death Magnetic.

"I have so much music from over the years."

I'm sure in his head he added, 'Because Metallica would never use mine.'

Jason's a great guy, glad to see he has a chance to make whatever music he wants.

I was really hoping he would put out some really great metal music. I always thought he was the only one in Metallica that wanted to play more of the heavy stuff but after listening to this new garbage I am wondering if he is the reason Metallica started going in the direction of Load and Re-Load. What the fuck??

Hey Gamblor- I'm BETTING you never even listened to the entire Death Magnetic album...but its "cool" to rip on Metallica right so you thought you'd throw that out there- what a douchbag. Magnetic is awesome...granted- not up to par with the first four epics, but a solid, tight fantastic album from guys who have been doing this a long time. I BET you'll post how much you love Mustaine next...or how about how you love "so and so" underground death metal band...idiot.

Bought Death Magnetic the day it came out. Listened to it several times. Pure crap. And no, I don't like Megadeth either. I don't really care about "underground" or "mainstream". So you can go ahead and shut your damn fool mouth.

I loved Jason in Metallica, and have always hoped he'd make his comeback, so I'm glad to see him, but...

This just seems kinda stupid. At first he came with a 45 second video saying "Hey! I'm back!" Then he's like "I got lots of songs layin around here somewhere... watch out!" and now he's like, "Hey! I'm shooting a video for a song that you've never heard!"

I think Jason is forgetting to give us a reason to care. Seriously Jason... why should I want to sign up for your email? So you can let me know about stuff thats happening in your band that I've never heard? Gimmie a break, dude.

I always thought Jason would either A) Rejoin Metallica, or B) Show up in some sort of "supergroup" or some shit like that.

I couldn't care less about your 37 second video that's just some fuzzy guitar tone and PSA for some mystery song from some mystery band with you in it. Give us something real that we can sink out teeth into, y'know?
