NIKKI SIXX: '25 Years Ago, I Had Two Almost-Fatal Drug Overdoses That Changed My Life Forever' - Dec. 23, 2012
MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx has posted the following message on his Facebook page:

"25 years ago today I had two almost-fatal drug overdoses that changed my life forever. I can't even see myself these days as that kid who was running head strong into the abyss, but I know he taught me how to live when he finally decided to do it for himself. I would of [sic] never seen the birth of my four beautiful children and had such a wonderful life (even with its adversity) if I had not kicked drugs.

"I can't say it loud enough, if your [sic] into them or considering doing them: DRUGS DON'T WORK. The downside is NEVER pretty.

"I am extremely grateful to be able to look back over these last 25 years and have all the memories that would of [sic] otherwise gone down up flames.

"Today I am going over more script material for 'The Heroin Diaries' for the Broadway play.

"Life really is a crazy and fun journey, isn't it?

"Have a great holiday season wherever you are. Live in the moment."

As previously reported, Sixx's memoir, "The Heroin Diaries: A Year In The Life Of A Shattered Rock Star", is being turned into a Broadway play. Sixx stated in an online posting last month, "We’re getting pretty far down the road. We hope for a late 2013 or early 2014 for it to open."

"The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star", which was supposedly taken from actual journals Sixx kept in the late '80s while in the grip of a near-fatal heroin addiction, was originally released September 18, 2007 via MTV Pocketbooks/Simon & Schuster and debuted at #7 on the New York Times Book Review non-fiction best-seller list.

The 400-plus page book, written in part with journalist Ian Gittins, was previously described as "a brutally honest look at Sixx's hellish year, one which saw him overdose and be declared clinically dead at one point while MÖTLEY CRÜE toured behind its 'Girls, Girls, Girls' album."

Good for you Nikki. You survived to tell the tale.. If you keep one kid from going down that same road by telling your story, all the better.

No. He did use the term correctly. What he is saying is that he was moving into a darkness with a self centered, tunnel vision attitude.

I wish Layne Staley had heeded that advice. One of the most original and greatest voices ever got snuffed out way too soon. As soon as Dirt was released, i had a new all time favorite singer. 20 years later i still get chills listening to that album and how good and original it is.

When someone in the "most dangerous band" informs us not to do drugs, then you know he's right. Hell, Nikki basically came back from the dead that day in 87. Good that he's still alive.

I've already made my decision to stay away from drugs a LONG time ago after seeing how it fucked the lives of several friends of mine back in High School (those who did drugs dropped out and I haven't seen or heard from them since), as well as my uncle. My uncle went through the NA shit, yet despite that, he STILL relapsed after his girlfriend dumped him.

It's sad that Nikki Sixx learned his lesson the hard way (and almost paid for it with his life), but at the same time, it's a blessing in disguise because he lived to tell about it.

I liked the book but I didn't like how he kept blaming the record company for letting him become a junkie. That deflecting of blame is Junkie 101 behaviour. Ironically, he didn't blame the record company for all the women he got to shag even though he wouldn't haven't had a chance with any of them if not for the record company. Anyway, he's still not as big a douche as Gene Simmons. Not yet, at least.

Good for Nikki that he survived and still lives to tell about it. While others have faded away. A lot of people can learn a thing or two what Sixx said here.

We know Nikki. We know about your various escapades in 80's drug culture associated with glam rock. You told us in Behind The Music. Then we had The Dirt. Then The Heroin Diaries. Followed by your Blabbermouth reminders that come every 2-3 months or so.

We get it. You used to do drugs. Just like 50% of Americans in the US since the late 60's. Bravo, Nikki. Bravo.

Drugs including pot are shit. They should never be legalized or tolerated and people who do them are the most selfish assholes in the world. Penalties for drug-related crimes should be as severe and harsh as possible.

Every time I think back to his book I can't help but remember the part just before the OD...when he had a check for $750,000 in his mailbox. Un-f'n real. That's still a hell of a lot of money today, but damn, in 1987?

OK Nikki... we get it. Truth is you were never a heroin addict. Stop trying to claim you were so fucked up and came back from the brink. You were not - shut the fuck up. You dabbled a few times, got a taste, never, ever were a junkie so you are a piece of shit liar.

Your BS books and messages for the youth are sensational and not helpful to anyone. Tell the truth and tell the youth that you dabbled but really more or less enjoyed weed, drinking and the occasional bump...

Stop trying to pretend you were a junkine - POSER PUSSY.
Suck it you lying, little pretend opiate lover.

Sixx isn't lying about his OBE, I has one exactly as he described 20 years ago, never happened again. It was real as real can be, and lasted about 45-60 seconds. No drugs involved, I was very sick at the time. Moral of the story...if you've got to catch a buzz, stick to weed, it'll never kill you like all that other crap and alcohol.

There are tons of archival interviews and footage of the band and of Niki during the time in the 80's that he was supposedly so wasted, and in everything I've ever seen, he is coherent and seemingly sober. I call bs on his tales of excess.

I am glad for you Nikki, really, but you keep boasting about your OD like if there were the very few things making yourself relevant these days. We got it, you beat the crap, great! Now what about trying to come up with good music? This what you were known for and got a millionaire out of. Stop bragging about your renegade past and make the present and future worth something.

Look at an ex junkie's face and and look at Nikki's, he doesn't seem to have done any surgery, or very discreet, this guy doesn't seem to have the flesh of and ex-junkie or even alcoholic, i say made up story to go with their ''bad boy'' reputation that helped them sold so many albums back then.
And about his description of and O.D. being real, he could have asked anyboby who had one, Robbin Crosby, his ex roomate for exemple.
Even Tommy told once in an interview that most of the'' bad boys' behaviours were made up by their label, remember, it's a business that sells illusions...
