MIKE SCACCIA: Official Cause Of Death Revealed; Benefit Concert Planned - Dec. 24, 2012
RIGOR MORTIS frontman Bruce Corbitt has announced plans to start an online fundraiser for the family of the band's guitarist, Mike Scaccia, who died this past Saturday night (December 22) while performing with RIGOR MORTIS at The Rail Club in Fort Worth, Texas at Corbitt's 50th-birthday celebration. Bruce states: "Also, there will possibly be a Scaccia tribute/benefit show put together for them to honor Mike and also raise money to help them. It could be as soon as this coming weekend. So I will also need to know what bands are interested in being part of this or if anyone can help in any way. "

He adds: "I also understand that it is Christmas time and I know Mike wouldn't want this to ruin that for anyone. He would want us all to know he went out doing what he loved doing surrounded by everyone he loved. He would want us to block this out and enjoy our Christmas with our families and loved ones."

Scaccia, who is also known for his work with MINISTRY and the REVOLTING COCKS, died of a sudden heart attack brought on by a heart disease (official cause of death: atherosclerotic and hypertensive heart disease), according to the Tarrant County medical examiner's office. Officials ruled it a natural death. He was 47 years old.

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, police responded to a call from the club at 11:45 p.m. Saturday, and Sciacca was pronounced dead at 12:26 a.m. in the emergency room at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth.

His daughter Sarah posted a message on his Facebook page at 3 a.m. Dallas time on Sunday, saying, "I love you so much dad. I love you so much."

Mike is survived by his wife Jenny Rowen Scaccia, with whom he has two toddlers, and daughters Sarah Scaccia and Taarna Scaccia Hopkins.

He was 47 years old. Perhaps he should have made a career change earlier in life so he can take care of his own family. Now they will set up an online fundraising website. Every time there is an issue, it's like "send me some money" in this world. People need to start being responsible and save money for themselves. I am not being insensitive, just sayin.

They should not rush doing a benefit show. Put together a proper one. If that ass clown from Suicide Silence that died due to his stupidity can have a good show, then this one should be killer!

I think they should show some respect and wait a while before they do a benefit show. It seems to hurried. Having the benefit show the next weekend is just kind of insensitive.

So basically years of cocaine use was the cause of death.

I knew of him through being a casual Ministry fan though didn't realize how much skill the guy had till seeing that video. Sorry for his family, that is way too young..

..and to the moron criticizing the need for a benefit:

Making a living off music isn't easy. If no one tried, it would be an even sadder world than it is already. Some people have the balls and ambition to actually follow through with it. When you've worked with bands at the level he did, you tend to want to stick with it. Some people have great paying 9 to 5 jobs and still find themselves in financial crisis when their health is compromised. Do some research, think about the various situations that could apply here, and shut the fuck up for a few days while you turn it over in your head before unleashing your idiocy upon the rest of us.

Wow. Talked to him just a few months back at a Gibson demo deal. Seemed proud of the new Ministry disc but he was into a lot more than that. He was a huge Johnny Winter fan and played some stuff in that Texas blues style that was great. Because some of us really appreciated that stuff, Mike told a story about how Winter's guitar player Paul Nelson shamed Slash into sitting down without playing a note at some industry showcase deal he attended not too long ago. Considering how much money Slash makes for Gibson, Mike coulda taken the corporate stance and kept that under wraps but I really don't think that occurred to him. He just seemed like a self-taught guy who loved to play loud guitar. I just hope any tribute to Mike includes his bluesy side and any solo stuff he left behind gets to see the light of day. RIP, big guy. PS - Here's Nelson in action -- http://youtu.be/6tZtqMQqiog

"Perhaps he should have made a career change earlier in life so he can take care of his own family."

Ever think that he had a rare form of heart disease that was unidentifiable by doctors? He had four children for God's sake. Doesn't strike me as the type of person to be irresponsible with his health while on the road.

RIP Mike. Sudden way to go but you went out enjoying what you loved doing.

Rigor Mortis is perhaps the most underrated and underappreciated metal band of all time, and Mike was the buzzsaw that drove them. He will be greatly missed.
