CHILDREN OF BODOM To Enter Studio Tomorrow - Dec. 27, 2012
Drummer Jaska Raatikainen of Finnish metallers CHILDREN OF BODOM has issued the following update:

"Today we had the last rehearsals before entering the studio tomorrow to record drums for the new album.

"Last two days have been quite intensive. Playing the songs over and over again, lots of fuck-ups and broken drum sticks, sweating, frustration, coffee and what have you, a little bit of arranging and all that shit.

"I am convinced that the new songs are great. A little bit of black metal, heavy metal, metal, old-school death metal, melodies, solos and anything you need to make a nice album. And the most important, new ideas à la CHILDREN OF BODOM!"

CHILDREN OF BODOM's new CD is tentatively due in late spring/early summer 2013 via Marquee Inc. in Japan and Nuclear Blast in other parts of the world.

CHILDREN OF BODOM in November canceled its appearance at next year's edition of the Tuska festival, set to take place June 28-30, 2013 in Suvilahti, Helsinki, Finland, "in order to be able to be part of a big tour in USA," according to the group's bassist, Henkka Seppälä (a.k.a. Henkka T. Blacksmith).

CHILDREN OF BODOM released a photo book, "Roadkill", on August 8 via Hatecrew.com. The first 666 copies are numbered and personally signed by the band.

Photography for "Roadkill" started in 2007. It includes exclusive material of life on the road, shows, promo shoots, recording sessions, album cover production and the worldwide "hate crew," as the band's fans are affectionately known. The book also contains comments and diary entries by the band and the photographer, Jussi Hyttinen of FLC415.

CHILDREN OF BODOM's most recent release was "Holiday At Lake Bodom (15 Years Of Wasted Youth)" , a very special CD+DVD career retrospective in celebration of the band's 15th anniversary.

their first 2 albums are amazing. if they can capture that spirit then it should be pretty good.

YES, I agree with you guys.... My first impulse reading this is "OH GOD, NOT AGAIN!"

But, if they can go back to the genius of their first 2 or 3 albums, and get back to the neo-classical melodic core of what BODOM is all about, then we could have a kick-ass album.

Otherwise, they are dumbed-down and drunk forever, and they have gone down (like) IN FLAMES.

Brilliance lost forever? Let's find out. One more chance, Children.

"first two albums"

I think you are confusing that with their second and third albums.

The last album was a big surprise. Blooddrunk was hardly their best sounding record and it sounded very indistinguishable guitar wise from a more recent Slayer record.

A lot of people thought HDR sucked, but they are wrong. it was great as far as I am concerned and a hell of a lot better than anything on their debut record. I think if you liked that one than you are probably underwhelmed by AYDY and BD and if not, you are never going to be happy with anything they record again. That's the way it is, just like the maiden/dickinson paradigm that makes some people hate anything other than their first two albums.

I would love to hear them use the melodic minor scales again and be as polymodal as they were in 2000ish, but again, I think they have moved on.

I just hope the production goes back to the standards they had a lot earlier in their career. The newer albums are way too muddy sounding and I think they are part of a long standing trend where the production is only as good as needs to be for MP3's standards leaving us FLAC and CD users with a mediocre product that doesn't sound good in the grand scheme.
