KATAKLYSM Working On 'Different, More Complex Death Metal' Album - Dec. 29, 2012
Canadian extreme metallers KATAKLYSM have secured the new producer who will handle the mix and master of the band's new album in 2013. The group states: "The band chose a different person this time which should help elevate the bands sound to the next level. His name will be revealed next week."

As has been the case with KATAKLYSM's previous recordings, the band's next CD will be engineered by guitarist Jean-François Dagenais at JFD Studios in Montreal and Texas. He states: "Expect a different, more complex death metal anthem this time around — high velocity, extreme but melodic while maintaining the band's signature trademark crushing grooves. We are refreshed from the time off and are working very hard on this album. We don't follow trends; we are inspired to create our own."

KATAKLYSM's multidisc DVD, "The Iron Will: 20 Years Determined", entered the German chart at position No. 98. The set depicts the ups and downs of KATAKLYSM's long, turbulent career, as well as footage of the band's performance at last year's Summer Breeze festival, which took place August 18-20, 2011 in Dinkelsbühl, Germany. The cover art for the release was created by artist Colin Marks (ORIGIN, EXODUS, NEVERMORE).

KATAKLYSM's latest album, "Heaven's Venom", sold around 2,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 8 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

Hmmmm. Dont think its gonna be a rehash of their early stuff, especially since the new albums have been so successful. Im guessing this is gonna be something new. Oh yeah, Ex Deo is badass too

Why not just announce who it is instead of saying you will next week?

Ywan.

"have secured the new producer who will handle the mix and master of the band's new album in 2013" - Thanks god they will get someone else to master their new album coz J-F Dagenais is terrible - since he produced almost every Kataklysm\ex deo album he fucked up everything with extreme compression (aka loudness war) almost like Rick fucking Rubin... new Ex deo sound is peace of shit! Maybe new Kataklysm will have this time a decent quality sound.

was just wondering if fans of other types of music are as picky about the production/mixing of records as we metalheads are? I'm the same way. Here's to hoping their new record kicks ass and extreme compression is minimized while instrumental separation is the primary focus. Hopefully he's talking about Sterling Winfield twiddling the knobs (he did an excellent job on Legacy of Disorder's killer new record) among many, many others.

You do realize most loudness wars videos on YouTube are about pop albums or classic rock albums? Vinyl is picking up on all genres as well, not to mention the masses who hate iTunes for their bitrates. But, of course, us metalheads are special. We don't want to fit in, but we do, but only on our terms. People look down on us, but they are ignorant and close minded and we look down on them. Whenever people start talking about metal fans being special in any kind of way, I get the idea I'm reading a Manowar lyric sheet - but they're not to be taken seriously by real mettle fans! Besides, I've talked to some guys who've produced local bands' albums and they all say the same; the bands usually don't give a damn how loud their album is. We know Lars Ulrich thinks there's nothing wrong with Death Magnetic, trust me, a lot of bands just don't give a damn about self-proclaimed audiophiles.

So this band has a trademark sound? What can you call 'classic kataklysm', really? I was curious to see what they were up to and what I heard proved I didn't miss a thing. It sounds like Metal by numbers. What's interesting in that band, please tell me?
