DAVE GROHL To Be Joined By 'Special Guests' For SOUND CITY PLAYERS Performance At SUNDANCE - Jan. 3, 2013
Former NIRVANA drummer and current FOO FIGHTERS frontman Dave Grohl will perform with a band called the SOUND CITY PLAYERS at the Sundance film festival in Park City, Utah to promote his directorial debut, "Sound City". According to The Salt Lake Tribune, "core musicians and special guests" featured in "Sound City" are expected to take part in the January 18 concert, although the group's exact lineup has not yet been revealed. Park City Live CEO Kathryn Burns stated: "The film … showcases the most talented group of musicians in the world and we are thrilled they chose to celebrate the documentary at Park City Live. The evening will be spectacular and we look forward to seeing who will join Dave Grohl and the SOUND CITY PLAYERS onstage."

"Sound City", about the legendary and now defunct recording studio in Van Nuys, California, was conceived by Grohl after he bought an equally famous Neve 8028 recording console from the studio. The console, built in 1972, is considered by many to be the crown jewel of analog recording equipment, having recorded classic albums by artists such as NIRVANA, Neil Young, FLEETWOOD MAC, Tom Petty, CHEAP TRICK, GUNS N' ROSES, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, SLIPKNOT, NINE INCH NAILS, METALLICA and countless others over the past 40 years.

Producer Butch Vig, who worked on the movie's soundtrack with Grohl, told The Pulse Of Radio how the seed for the film was planted. "When Dave got the board and put it in his studio, he had the idea to interview people who had recorded there. And he got a roster list of all the bands that had recorded there over 20 years — it's huge. I mean, it's like, FLEETWOOD MAC and THE JACKSONS and Tom Petty and METALLICA... I mean, it's amazing. And so Dave started calling up people and saying, 'Hey, man, do you want to do the interview for this documentary?' And everybody said yes."

Grohl said in a statement about the project, "'Sound City' is a film about America's greatest unsung recording studio . . . it was the birthplace of legend. It was witness to history. It was home to a special few, intent on preserving an ideal. An analog church, a time capsule, the last bastion of a craft defied by technology. It was rock and roll hallowed ground."

Grohl interviewed dozens of artists and producers who worked at Sound City about their experiences there and some of the legendary albums that came out of the studio.

The film will also feature brand new performances by artists who recorded at Sound City, including collaborations between musicians like SLIPKNOT's Corey Taylor and Rick Springfield.

The official trailer for "Sound City" can be seen below.

Grohl's drumming in my opinion is the only thing that stands the test of time on Nevermind. He and Butch Vig are behind the album's mainstream success - there had to be some foundation to make a polished production and it was the solid rock, metal at times, drumming. Certainly not Cobain's "I wanna make whiny songs with dirty guitar sound" approach. Say he's overrated, but tell me who'd play the drums better on that album. If you want to say Joey Jordison or Mike Portnoy or something like that, just go kill yourself.

Gotta be Paul McCartney...along with Novoselic and Smear.

Their song they cut and premiered at the 12-12-12 concert, "Cut Me Some Slack", is awesome.

Killer vocals and slide guitar work from McCartney. The guy's in his 70s and can rock out better than most people half his age.

Yeah, but who listens to an album JUST for the drums?

I don't know about you, but no matter how great the drumming on an album may be, if I don't like the guitars or vocals, then I'm not going to force myself to listen to it.

please get dave grohl's cock out of your ass. His drumming is most definitely not "the only thing that stands the test of time on Nevermind", it's a combination of a contribution between all members of the band, their abilities as players, songwriters, arrangers, and of course the production of Butch Vig and Andy Wallace's mix- among many other things. I understand being a fan of the guy, but going gay is taking it a little too far.
