Drummer BRIAN TICHY Quits WHITESNAKE - Jan. 4, 2013
Renowned drummer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Brian Tichy, known for his tours of duty with BILLY IDOL, FOREIGNER and OZZY OSBOURNE, has announced his departure from WHITESNAKE in order to focus on SOMETHING UNTO NOTHING (S.U.N.), the band he started with Sass Jordan, a Canadian icon and Juno Award winner. Bassist and singer Michael Devin, also a participant in S.U.N., will remain with WHITESNAKE.

Said WHITESNAKE mainman David Coverdale: "We are truly sad to see [Brian] go, but, we fully support the pursuit of his ambitions and sincerely wish him well. His fearless drumming brought a relentless driving edge and to our music that we fully embraced. Good luck, Brian. May the S.U.N. shine brightly on you!!"

WHITESNAKE has begun the search for a new drummer. There are several musicians already being considered.

A spokesman for the band said that this will not affect the forthcoming tour dates for 2013.

As previously reported, Tichy broke his collarbone last weekend in a mountain biking accident. As a result, he wasunable to take part in this past Monday night's (December 31) THE MOBY DICKS - All-Star Tribute To Led Zeppelin concert at Vamp'd in Las Vegas, Nevada and was temporarily replaced by QUIET RIOT's Frankie Banali.

Tichy is one of the organizers of the Bonzo Bash NAMM Jamm 2013, which will take over Anaheim, California on Thursday, January 24 at the Observatory. Many of the drummers who have performed at past Bonzo Bashes are back, as well as some new. This is the chance for many out-of-towners to check a Bonzo Bash out as Natal and Marshall are presenting this on opening night of the NAMM show.

He was only on one album anyway. Americans just remember the members they saw on mtv videos, much like Rudy Sarzo, the classic Ozzy and Whitesnake bassist who recorded no music with either band :P

Not True. Whitesnake. 1989. Slip Of The Tongue. Both Rudy and Tommy were on that album. And then there are live recordings as well.

Yep, that's the album I mentioned. Momentarily forgot Sarzo was on it, sorry. His only contribution. Live releases are a dime a dozen, especially with all the archival releases now. I like them both, they simply get overrated as classic bandmembers when they had such little actual input to said bands catalogues.

I don't think it's so much that he can't keep a gig, but he's more of a hired hand guy that likes to do various different projects rather than being fully committed to just one thing.

Damn. He sounded great on Forevermore. "My Evil Ways" was a standout track.

That being said, I'd like to see Tommy back in the band if he can still keep up with it. Isn't he close to 65 now?

Have to agree, the guy has always been a fitness freak, dedicated to giving his best on the drums, and it always showed, even at age 60ish.

Hopefully David will pick one.

great drummer and great musician, tommy Aldridge is great too, but they are probably gonna find some new guy that hasn't been in the bands before, but it doesn't worry me much because no matter who its gonna be he's gonna have lots of talent so now just waiting for the tour and why not another album, the last two have been very good

is a God. He used to be in Black Oak Arkansas back in the 70's. If you can find a video of him playing on Don Kirshner's or Midnight Special please do so. I own a copy and it blew me away. There is a reason he's played with some of rock greats, because he is one of rock greats. Tichy isn't bad either.

- proves they don't know jack shit about rock drumming. The guy is simply one of the best ever. Fuck - post about kitchenware or something.

Brian Tichy is a monster. I was lucky enough to work with him for about 6 months when I was teaching in Hollywood and Ray Luzier was on the road. Brian is not only a master drummer, but a very nice guy. He's a star - I'm not, but he made it like we were on the same level musically - a class act all the way.
