SLASH On WEILAND: Even If I Didn't Have My Solo Thing Going On, I Still Wouldn't Work With Him - Jan. 4, 2013
Slash has blasted Scott Weiland for claiming in various interviews that he was going to be rejoining VELVET REVOLVER, saying, "None of us have a clue what he's talking about… We're not buying it."

Weiland recently said that he thought it was "the perfect time for VELVET REVOLVER to get back together," telling Rolling Stone magazine, "I am completely open to it, and I know there are other guys in the band that are completely open to it."

VELVET REVOLVER has been without a singer and on more or less permanent hiatus since Weiland was dismissed from the band in April 2008. He rejoined STONE TEMPLE PILOTS at that time and has toured constantly and cut one album with them.

In an interview in the new issue of Classic Rock, Slash was reluctant to address Weiland's recent comments, saying "I don't even want to give him this attention, to tell you the truth."

He added: "I think at this point Scott just got fired from STP and I think he's trying to pull off that trick of trying to get something else going on, and we're not buying it. The door's shut on this side and it's probably shut on that side too, so he's on his own. And he deserves it, too."

Slash continued: "Scott is completely speaking out of his ass [about the VELVET REVOLVER reunion]. Nobody at this end has had any conversations with Scott on this subject, except maybe [VELVET REVOLVER guitarist] Dave Kushner, because he was the only one in the band who was really close to him. And all things considered, we don't have a good professional relationship with Scott.

"And it also pisses me off because he's put STP through so much shit over the years, and put us through shit too when we were working with him. In 2008, that was all over with, so at this point, when he starts coming up with this stuff, it's like, whatever."

The guitarist said he is in a good frame of mind these days and he had no intention of bringing a begative influence like Weiland back into his life. "It's been great," Slash said. "It's basically since I got my shit together and stopped touring with Scott. Even if I didn't have my solo thing going on, I still wouldn't work with him."

VELVET REVOLVER did reunite with Weiland for a four-song set in January 2012 at a Los Angeles tribute concert for late songwriter John O'Brien (see video below), but the band has otherwise remained inactive.

they were so average of a band it was almost sad, there are a million other bands who deserve attention more then these guys.slash and his pentatonic riffs that have been recycled from 1978 have reached there limit of orginiality in 1989,lets move on focus on others more deserving like say...anyone else...and the singer really? was he ever that good?

Sorry hakk, no more GnR for you though.

So Slash and most of VR weren't even close to Scott, it was just a business to make money. That's cool and all but no wonder it didn't last. It's also very telling that VR never found another permanent singer and have been on hiatus.

But Scott chose his fate and elected the rock'n roll damnation route of drugs. The two VR albums were decent, but they need to disband the project due to lack of public interest. VR possibly could have been revived with Corey Taylor as he is a genuine talent, well respected and a fitting frontman. Would truly love to hear those demos.

I was so disappointed Slash and Duff chose Weiland to front VR. Weiland is so commercial and predictable. He pretends to be dangerous but the raw rock n roll element is 100% contrived. Miles Kennedy sucks too. He is interchangeable with any "rocker" on American Idol or Star Search.

"Slash and Duff chose Weiland to front VR. Weiland is so commercial and predictable".

That was also very predictable of them, to choose Weiland. They have never denied the fact that they were/are looking for a recognizable face, somebody already known by people and media. Those times to start something new and raw are way past them, they want sure cash or nothing.

Yes, Kennedy might have some abbilities when it comes to sing (there are way worse singers) but I find him completely annoying to hear and it's an example of what I said before, at least Weiland has proved himself capable to write some good tunes.

maybe choosing Weiland was "easy" in the fact he was a big name. But Weilands anything but predictable. While I think Weiland is a fuck up, sort of hopeless addict, he is also very unpredictable, both personality wise, and writing. He was great in STP's heyday. Good front man too. He's just burned every bridge with his foolish antics. Now his 45, and on his own...I'm sure he could mend it with STP, but only if he were truly going to get his act together...what a waste.

Hey man, good to hear from you. You're correct, you don't know which road Weiland will took when it comes to write songs and in some aspects of his personality but what is very easy to predict is that sooner or later he will screw things up. The guy is a mess and is a pity because there is no doubt he's talented, but you can tell he's not ready to change and like somebody posted, if he keeps going down that road we will be reading here that he has been found somewhere else with a needle in his arm, a bottle of pills, etc.; I sincerely hope not, but sadly that's kind of predictable too.

Wish you the best in 2013 BTW.

Poor Weiland - in the "Bad VH-1 Special" scheme of things, the happy endings tend to start around halfway in. We're at about the 45 minute mark here.

Dude went from a stone cold junkie to a stone cold drunk. Unfortunately, high grade heroin shot through clean needles at the end of the day is probably healthier for a man's liver than the amount of booze and pills this guy has been inhaling.

I don't think it's funny or anything, he's tremendously talented and a father to boot...I just don't think he has much time left at this point. Sooner or later, it becomes too late to turn things around.

back when Velvet Revolver was still active, to come here and read comments from people claiming that Scott Weiland was their favorite singer ever and VR was the second coming of Guns 'N' Roses.

As posted above, Weiland was selected because he was a famous name and they wanted easy money. Maintaining their lifestyles is more important than creating music now. It didn't last past two albums, because the money wasn't coming in as quick and easy as they wanted, nor could they count on Weiland showing up for the scheduled gigs.

So now Slash, Duff, Baron von Scrotum all have their own bands, where they take most of the money and pay their grateful bands enough to keep them employed. As long as they can maintain their lifestyles that way, there will be no reunions. If they aren't banking the coin like they want, or another divorce happens, or Axl needs money, we'll have a GnR reunion for the big payday.

Very uninteresting band to begin with...not that they are bad musicians or made bad music, cause that is not true and not a reasonable statement. The music world is no worse off without VR and no better off with VR...

Slash did some nice things on guitar...but what these guys forget as their own ego gets the best of them is that interesting music is made from the chemistry and push-pull of interaction with others. Not by carefully assembling a band of known musicians into some "supergroup"...

I don't think Weiland is lying when he said some guys in the band are open to the idea

mainly Sorum & Kusher

those guys would kill to be in the spotlight they were in

Duff, has his own thing...but I'm sure he'd do it to

once again, the issue is Slash
the main issue Axl has is Slash.....

that said, I could give a shit if VR ever got back together again..very average

Does Velvet Revolver deserve to be in the pantheon of all-time great bands? No. But there's impressive playing and singing on those albums and Slash is not going to find anyone to sing and write as well as Weiland so he may as well make the best use of his time and get on with it.
