SAIGON KICK's Original Lineup To Announce First Reunion Dates 'Any Day Now' - Jan. 19, 2013
The original lineup of the acclaimed 1990s rock band SAIGON KICKMatt Kramer (vocals), Phil Varone (drums), Jason Bieler (guitar) and Tom Defile (bass) — will announce its first shows since 1992 "any day now," according to Kramer. The band rehearsed for the first time on November 12, 2012 in Southern Florida in preparation for the reunion dates. They are being joined by another returning SAIGON KICK member, bassist Chris McLernon, who will handle rhythm-guitar duties on the road.

A photo taken at the first rehearsal can be seen below.

Bieler, who recently launched a new project called OWL STRETCHING, told Love-It-Loud.com last year about the prospect of a SAIGON KICK reunion, "I am open to anything at this point, I am really just distilling this down to what it was about when I started… making music and having fun. So far… so good!"

SAIGON KICK is perhaps best remembered for its second album, 1992's "The Lizard", which spawned the band's biggest hit single, "Love Is On The Way". The track reached No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and its accompanying video was in the top 10 MTV countdown for many weeks. Just before touring for the LP commenced, DeFile was fired and was replaced by ex-COLD SWEAT bassist Chris McLernon. They toured from summer 1992 to spring 1993 and "The Lizard" was eventually certified gold by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association Of America) for sales in excess of 500,000 copies.

"Love Is On The Way" is a good song but it really cock-blocked the band in the long-run.

I swear that acoustic guitar playing in this song sounds like the opening gutar chord to the rambo first blood film.

While I thought "The Lizard" was a really good album, I think the debut is much better. Better production, HUGE sound and harmonies.

Actually saw them on The Lizard tour in Va Beach (Peppermint Beach Club, RIP). Found their bus a few blocks away, met Matt and actually walked him to a cool pizza joint down the block and bought him a slice :-) I remember that around that time there were rumors swirling that he quitting the band, which he of course denied. However, I think that actually happened a month or so later.

"Water" was horrific! Hope they can get it together and record some new music!

Saigon Kick is a kick ass band. My favorites are The Lizard and Devil in Details. Glad Matt is back so Jason can concentrate on guitars. Phil please leave your ding dong unexposed. Other than that he's one of the best drummer ever. Come to Austin Tx!!!

Saigon Kick looks like Hootie & the Blowfish now. They need to get with Steel Panther and get a look going. Those cargo shorts aren't going to cut it.

....2 times in TA Verns(RIP), maybe another at Summerfest? Either way, I have to admit they were good every time. Both dudes sing well, they know how to write a good song, and they can all play.
Good band.

Hopefully, this reunion lasts for awhile.

They had two previous reunions that quickly imploded. I think Matt walked out both times.

This band was great but they got royally fucked for two reasons.

1) 'Love is on the Way' got a ton of air play and people knew them for that song and lumped them into the hair band category with Warrant, Firehouse & Trixter. No other song they ever recorded sounded anything like that song. The same exact thing happened to Extreme, with 'More Than Words'.

2) While 'Love is on the Way' was getting a TON of air play and they were being lumped together with Warrant, Firehouse & Trixter, it just happened to be at the same time the Seattle grunge scene was just starting to explode.

So very true about Saigon Kick and Extreme. Two band that definitely had many people going to their shows for those rare radio ballads only to find out that the majority of their music actually rocked and should have made it on the radio back then but didn't.

Love of how the headline is the only bit of "new information" in this entire article. Slow news day apparently.

Bleh! Just like Extreme...ruined by a "cheesy" song.

Feel The Same Way...Eden...All I Want and many more great tunes.

Love Matt! I didn't like their stuff after he left. Everybody says Devil In The Details was great, but I hated it. I was excited when Matt was singing on an ep from George Lynch called Stonehouse. I was shocked, though when all his vocals were in a lower octave that any bozo could sing . He didn't sound like the same guy from SK. Favorite songs are Coming Home from the 1st cd & Pepperment Tribe from the 2nd. Hope they play close to Denver!

Hopefully I can make it to one of the first shows. If the band starts fighting it could fall apart quickly. A new album with everyone's contribution would be awesome. They need to leave the "my dog" and "chanel" stuff for the B-sides. I enjoy it as much as anyone but they need to establish a better core identity first. Musical diversity is great but the gimmick stuff will define them if they are not careful this time. Having said that, "My life" is one of the better songs I have ever heard. Take away the gimmick feel and their first album would have been triple platinum for that song alone.
