METALLICA To Perform Entire 'Black' Album At Australia's SOUNDWAVE Festival? - Jan. 20, 2013
According to Australia's KillYourStereo.com, Soundwave festival promoter AJ Maddah has confirmed that METALLICA will play a two-hour set at this year's event, complete with the "Snakepit" rig, all but confirming that the band's setlist will include the entirety of METALLICA's 1991 self-titled effort.

The last time this rig was used was during METALLICA's 2012 European tour where the LP was played backwards, starting with closing number "The Struggle Within" and ending with "Enter Sandman".

Asked whose idea it was for METALLICA to play the "black" album in reverse on the most recent tour, the band's drummer, Lars Ulrich, told Rolling Stone magazine, "If you like the idea, it was mine. If you don't, it was James' [Hetfield, guitar/vocals]. For better or worse, I'm the setlist guy. This is all subject to change if it doesn't work. But the idea of starting off with the lesser-known songs buried down there and ending up with 'Sad But True' and 'Enter Sandman' seems like a winner. You finish with the money shot, which is the first song."

"Metallica" in 2009 surpassed SHANIA TWAIN's 1997 record, "Come On Over", as the best-selling CD of the SoundScan era. To date, the black album has sold more than 16 million copies in the United States.

Although METALLICA had scored their first radio and video airplay with their previous effort, 1988's "...And Justice For All", the black album was the band's biggest commercial breakthrough, producing five singles and making them into one of the most popular rock bands in the world.

I was worried Metallica might want to play something heavy. I knew they would not let me down.

It is a good album for the most part....but...wouldn't you rather rage and thrash along to all those albums that made Metallica GREAT in the first place?

Ahhhhhh what are you gonna do when the masses want whatever is spoon fed to them?

Really now? You can't thrash to a record 'seriously' unless it has good lyrics? So, like, the socio-political musings of Dave Mustaine at age 30 make a better headbang than an 18 year old Hetfield talking about jumping into hell? You are funny, but in a serious way, because I can't laugh at something ridiculous, only at something with good text.

The black album.....as newsted once said "sell out, your right sell out every seat in the arena!!!" This is what started the downward spiral of what they once were A METAL BAND

I believe Kill 'em All came out in 1983, wouldn't playing that from cover t cover be more fitting, this is after all the 30th anniversary of its release. Shit, they could even use the same stage set as that tour.

I'd rather they play Ride the Lighting. But I'm not gonna give these greedy pricks my money anyway so what does it matter? Oh, that's right, Nothing Else Matters.

They can perform whatever album they want, the concert will still end with Seek & Destroy and the house lights turned on during it. Big deal.

why are they playing this album? because noone knew Master of Puppets when they played that one? i saw that and its their best album but most of the people around me didnt knew the songs, only the hits wich is little sad. but thats what you get when you become huge, you get stuck with the hits and have to play the hits if you want the 1-2 songs an album people to come to the concerts and have many thousands of people. but mayb its best for them because they havent made a decent album in 20 years

Soundwave will be full of the Triple M fans now that it's cool to go to this festival, so they will love it that they get to hear the Black Album....Hopefully Slayer are playing at the same time so we can go and watch a thrash band....

They might have to rename the festival "SNOOZEWAVE" if that is the case.
