Former SOULFLY Drummer Selling Touring Drum Kit - Jan. 21, 2013
Since quitting SOULFLY and retiring from music last November, drummer David Kinkade — who has also played with BORKNAGAR, ARSIS and MALEVOLENT CREATION — has made the decision to sell all of his equipment. He says: "I no longer need any of it; therefore I would like to make it available to everyone. I have a lot of stuff and I'd prefer that it goes to people who will appreciate and use it rather than just have it collect dust in my home.

"A few weeks ago, I collected my SOULFLY touring drum kit from Phoenix and now I would like to announce that it is for sale. I hope to find a buyer who takes pride in their equipment as I have taken very good care of this drum kit. I'm including a shitload of new Evans drum heads along with the sale. It is a 2012 Pearl Masters Premium kit. All maple shells.

"I really appreciate all of the kind words and comments that I've gotten from everyone since announcing that I've retired. It was a hard decision but too many things were thrown on my plate and I felt it was the best move for my family and myself."

"Those interested in possibly acquiring items from my collection can visit my eBay or contact me directly: Davidkinkade2012@gmail.com."

Give him a couple years. He will be back. You think being a musician is hard, Dave? Try flipping burgers. Try pouring concrete. Try working in a foundry. How about serving in the armed forces?

I have no sympathy for crybabies like him.

He wants to provide & be around his family. Maybe put some money in a 401K. He's not looking for your shoulder to cry on. The part I don't get is, what will you do for fun when all the drumming shit is sold? He must have a drum set for himself...?

Best of luck to him though.

I never said music was hard. Working with people who treat you like shit and being away from family for 10 months is the hard part. I work on the Canadian Pacific railroad now. Yesterday I worked 2pm-2am. It was 4 degrees when I went home last night. I BUST my ass to make an honest living. I'm selling all of my gear because I have a wife and 3 children to support. Unfortunately blabbermouth likes to twist words around and make it seem like something it isn't. I'm pretty far from a crybaby.

Thats cool, Dave, take care of the kids. But why go to the extreme of selling your entire kit when you could teach or do session drumming? Mike Smith is making a somewhat decent living off of that and he gets to be around his family. Brian Harris of Solstice/Foul Stench/a bunch of other bands does this too.

You know youll be back in a couple years. Maybe not as a full time touring musician, but this isnt the end.

Why sell the kit? because that's a lot of money sitting there, money that can be used to help pay his bills and support his family.

mycouchpullsoutidont = backpedaling from his troll tone pretty quick. now trying to sound like a supportive bud. yeah, right.

just because something works for mike smith, doesn't mean everyone else has to do it. if the man wants to quit drums, he can quit drums. wtf do you care what personal choices he makes?

Honestly because when I was a kid, all I ever dreamed about was playing drums in front of 50,000+ people. After everything I went through, moving all over the world for metal and trying to make it work and finally joining a band big enough to play those crowds....I learned that it wasn't everything I thought it would be. Certain people made it completely impossible for me to enjoy being in Soulfly and that eventually wore me down to the point where if I can't be happy doing what I loved to do, I don't want any part of it anymore. I can't just settle for the minimum when I've tasted the rest. Now I'm just an average dude working on freight trains but I'm actually happy...and appreciated where I work. No regrets.

If this in fact Dave K...I totally get it and respect it. So many people get into this business and find it it isnt what they expected. Glad you are doing what's best for you. I tour the world as well. and love it but you know as well as i do people make it tough out there for you. Good luck my friend and keep at least one kit around for yourself.

Look at anyones music career. Read anyones books. Touring is a youthful thing. No one wants to tour extensively when you get old, never the less have kids. Max Cavalera takes them all with him. It sucks that music doesn't mix with business and management sucked for you Dave. Oh well, you still played on Soulfly's best disc! Thanx for the signature sticks on ebay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (=)

Wow thats a helluva decision. Hey, but atleast dude can say that he did what most of us on this site have always wanted to do. My son changed my life for the best. Im still the same diehard I was back in 86. And i still play on my own accord. Nothing serious, just an outlet anymore. Good luck dude, do what makes you happy.

best of luck dave. I worked for CSX railroads for a while, back braking work and long hours (to say the least). But nothing beats coming home to see your children after a long day work day in and out....

Killer kit, wish I had the moolah for it.

And who can't respect your decision to spend more time with your family? When my kids were little it was just incredible seeing & helping them learn every little thing. Nothing can be better than that.

Props to you, sir.

Too bad he's deciding to do this. It's a nice kit. If he wants to be with family then good for him, but don't quit.
