MEGADETH: New Video Footage From The Studio Posted Online - Jan. 21, 2013
Video footage of MEGADETH's Dave Mustaine, Chris Broderick and Shawn Drover recording tracks for the band's forthcoming fourteenth studio album at Vic's Garage studio in San Marcos, California during mid-January can be seen below.

MEGADETH's new CD is being produced by Johnny K (full name: John Karkazis), who has previously worked with DISTURBED, SEVENDUST, MACHINE HEAD and STAIND. The effort will surface later this year via an as-yet-undisclosed label following the band's recent split with Roadrunner Records.

Mustaine previously told NME about the direction of MEGADETH's new material, "Some of it's a little darker, some of it's a little faster. Being in this position right now, not knowing where we're gonna go or what we're gonna do, it's kind of like the world's ours to do what we want. Are we gonna go back to the speed and thrash metal roots that made us who we are? Are we gonna experiment and rely on the melody that we've discovered in MEGADETH songs?"

Mustaine also spoke about how he likes to keep MEGADETH's music more melodic than that of most thrash bands. "We've tried to do that in MEGADETH, have a little melody so that it's not just the same old grinding music like everybody else has," he said. "We're just happy to get going and get to the studio."

Johnny K produced MEGADETH's last album, 2011's "TH1RT3EN", which was also recorded at Vic's Garage.

"TH1RT3EN" sold 42,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 11 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD marked the recorded return of bassist David Ellefson who was part of the band's classic lineup from 1983 to 2002. In a move that delighted the band's legion of diehards, Ellefson returned to performing live with MEGADETH in early 2010 and has remained a fixture on the stage ever since. This was the first time Ellefson has played on a MEGADETH record since 2002's "Rude Awakening".

i wouldn't normally wish this on anyone, but i hope dave mustaine becomes addicted to drugs again. then maybe, MAYBE, we'll get a good megadeth record. the last interesting album they did was countdown. i guess cryptic writings was okay, but seriously... this guy needs drugs.

It's going to sound like a cross between Risk and 13. When the record flops, Dave will blame Obama for sending messages to his brain trying to sabatoge his music carear.

I have to agree...

Dave writes his best music when he's on drugs.

I'm waiting for the Rust in Peace comparisons to start appearing like they do for all their new albums. Then it always turns out it's an album of third rate Countdown leftovers.

& i'm sure it won't. At least some of it won't as long as they keep doing what they've done since The System.

I really hold no hope out of an awesome Megadeth record. A combination of:

- Shawn Drover's slow, boring drumming
- Chris Broderick's boring, shred-by-numbers guitar
- Dave Mustaine's increasingly stupid and badly-written lyrics
- Dave Mustaine's increasinly un-edgy songwriting

is just too much.

TSHF was the last thing resembling a decent Megadeth record... because at least the first two of those four things were not a problem. Please Dave, if you're gonna be a boring middle-aged Jesus freak at least get some other musicians with life in them.
