DEEP PURPLE's STEVE MORSE Interviewed At NAMM (Video) - Jan. 25, 2013
Vintage Rock's Sara Escalante conducted an interview with guitarist Steve Morse (DEEP PURPLE, DIXIE DREGS) at this year's NAMM (National Association Of Music Merchants) show on Thursday, January 24 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. You can now watch the chat below.

DEEP PURPLE will release its 19th studio album via earMUSIC, the Hamburg, Germany-based international rock label which is part of Edel Group, on the following dates:

Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Finland, Spain: April 26
UK, France, Benelux, Poland, Czech Republic, Norway, Denmark: April 29
North America, Italy: April 30
Sweden: May 1

After various songwriting sessions in Europe, the band recorded and mixed the album in Nashville, Tennessee with producer Bob Ezrin (KISS, PINK FLOYD, PETER GABRIEL, ALICE COOPER, KANSAS). The CD is expected to contain 13 tracks, including "Out Of Hand", "Hell To Pay", "Weirdistan", "Uncommon Man" and "Above And Beyond". The latter song references the band's late keyboard player, Jon Lord, in the lyric "Souls having touched are forever entwined."

According to earMUSIC, the CD is "rumored to be the perfect match from the original spirit of '70s PURPLE, and a fresh and modern production."

Regarding the album title, Gillan offered the following cryptic comment to Classic Rock: "There's a big question mark over the name at the moment. And possibly an exclamation mark as well. You can read what you like into what I've just said. All will become clear — as mud — later on. That's all I'm allowed to say. The question mark and the exclamation mark might get you intrigued."

Let's face it, purple has no more magic or chemistry. Used to be a Purple fan in the day, but I couldn't care less about them now. This is one band that should have changed their name when Blackmore left, it just doesn't work, and hasn't worked since. Not terrible, but just nothing special. Real Purple material involved great songwriting. However, the last album with Blackmore was the HORRIBLE "House of Blue Light", poor songwriting, outside of the one track on that album that was full Purple quality, which is "Bad Attitude". Great rock tune. Blackmore is never coming back...he's too busy banging his hot wife with his wig and William Tell minstrel outfit on.

Klonozo

My feeling exactly

Last album was the Cattle Grazes On, not HOBL

Blackmore is a legend. A total prick to bandmates and fans, but a legend.

If you guys even bothered to pay attention to anything DP's done with Steve Morse you'd realize that songs like Ted The Mechanic, 7th Heaven and Rapture of The Deep are all every bit as good as stuff from the Blackmore era. I've enjoyed all eras of the band because every musician that's been in Purple is a virtuoso! Really listen to this stuff before bashing it! Why do I even bother to sing Purple's praises? It's like having an ass kicking contest against a one legged man....... To each his own! Blackmore's never coming back.... Get over it! Sorry that I won't see all of you haters out there when they tour.....

Most of the metal brethren love DP. It is not hate. It is simple preference and is not debatable. Like the Stones, at what point is it time to call it a day? Morse is outstanding but he is the youngest at 62. Fading into oblivion is worse in many cases than simply hanging up the guitar, mic, bass etc. watching the Stones recent concerts is just as damning to their rock legacy as listening to Ian's nasally delivery and inability to hit the high notes. DP in their prime (which included Blackmore) was the pinnacle of rock at that period of time. I would rather enjoy DP's golden era than a respectable but mediocre today. It is only an opinion that means nothing but to the one who holds it.
