Video: DREAM THEATER's JOHN PETRUCCI Introduces His New Music Man JP13 Signature Guitar - Jan. 30, 2013
Ernie Ball's Music Man branch of quality USA-made guitars and basses, has teamed up with John Petrucci of progressive metal giants DREAM THEATER to continue making improvements to his already popular signature line of guitars. This year, however, instead of the usual neck and body adjustments, they did something that's brand new to the series: they put an on-board preamp inside the guitar to deliver a gain boost right from your fingers.

Commented Petrucci: "It's amazing to see all the positive comments about the JP13. I really appreciate the support and enthusiasm. Of course, I love and use all of the sig JP Music Man models we've created over the years, but I have to say that the 13 is my favorite of all! It just has that 'magic' thing about it. The new DiMarzio pickups, the preamp and boost, the 17" radius rosewood fretboard, the beautiful silver finish and of course the perfect neck and body design make it the ultimate guitar.

"I spent all day writing with the DREAM THEATER guys [the other day] and the 13 sounded so incredible and felt so amazing that the riffs were flying out of the guitar with such ease and intensity that was so inspiring and so satisfying!"

Video footage of Petrucci introducing the JP13 guitar at this year's NAMM (National Association Of Music Merchants) show, a massive music-products convention that took place January 24-27 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California, can be seen below.

DREAM THEATER has commenced work on the follow-up to 2011's "A Dramatic Turn Of Events" for a tentative late summer/early fall release via Roadrunner Records.

Keep in mind that guitar list prices and street prices are massively different. His guitars are actually pretty reasonably priced for high-end American Made guitars.
Trust me - I just bought one of the older models JPs yesterday.
Regarding the new JP13 - not sure I like the onboard preamp thing and the radius is flat enough as it is.

If you're gonna shell out that kind of money, custom order your own from Suhr, KxK, whomever...Something that you'll play forever cuz' it was made for YOU and not some guy collecting a percentage of profit for slapping his name on an instrument.

They're good guitars. But too expensive. I'd rather get a non signature music man model for a lower price.

Music Man guitars are great. I have tow of the Silhouette models, much cheaper than the Petrucci's, but still very nice guitars.

I love the MM JP50. I didn't want to spend big bux on the real thing since I don't play for a living, I just do for fun. I stuck some DiMarzio in my red burst JP50 and I'm good to go!

Also, all those knobs and whistles, I hate that. Just need a volume, tone, ya know, that's it. Also I love how MM feels, I love the headstock and I love the lock tuners on this! The JP50 bridge is fine for my needs, I like it a lot. (I hate, hate, hate Floyd Rose)

One more thing, anybody noticed the curvy arm rest is gone on this 13? Uh, hello?

That went away after the JP6 model. Agree - I liked the look of it.

A friend of mine worked at a music store a few years back and I got to play one of the JP signature guitars. It's by far one of the very best sounding guitars I have ever played.

That said, $3000.00 is pricey.
