ANATHEMA: New Video Interview With DANNY CAVANAGH - Feb. 3, 2013
PitCam.TV recently conducted an interview with Daniel Cavanagh of the U.K. atmospheric rock band ANATHEMA. You can now watch the chat below.

ANATHEMA's latest album, "Weather Systems", sold around 1,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 22 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"Weather Systems" was released on April 24, 2012 via The End Records. The follow-up to 2010's "We're Here Because We're Here" was recorded in Liverpool, North Wales and Oslo, each place significant to ANATHEMA past, present and future. The record was produced and mastered by Christer-André Cederberg (ANIMAL ALPHA, IN THE WOODS..., DRAWN), whom ANATHEMA's Daniel Cavanagh has described as "a revelation. His calmness and brilliance has helped to bring about the greatest inter-band chemistry that ANATHEMA have experienced together in their career."

Anathema is for losers who think that being depressed all the time makes them look smart

I'm not sure what's more lame, a band once as great as Anathema (An Iliad of Woes straight through to A Natural Disaster) writing the song "Untouchable Part One" or this idiot above me. Either way, I wish both would just go away.

It's a shame they'll never make a record again in the vein of Silent Enigma. The first half of their discography is marvelous.

The sound has changed (more Porcupine Tree-like), and it is defintely not metal, but I still like the new stuff. I always need a few bands that I can play when hanging with my girl, and this is one that works for both of us. I thought the last song on their latest cd (about a near death experience) was very interesting stuff. But I can definately see many on here not liking them

I can understand why the band drifted away so much but they must remember that the first half of their discography is what made them known to the public. The Silent Enigma just crushed my world back then.

I agree with most above in saying the old stuff is the best. But if you watched the interview it seems Danny is less troubled now so it is reflected in the music. At least they seem to write songs true to their heart and not just reproduce the old. If you want more dark I suggest Antimatter. Really good stuff.

Aye, Antimatter are amazing!

And I don't like to compare new era Anathema to Porcupine Tree at all! Porcupine Tree are GREAT, the last two Anathema albums' are hardly even progressive rock. It's like a crappy version of Stupid Dream era Porcupine Tree which was what they call "Post-progressive" which seems to be a mix of real prog and 90's alternative / indie. It's really waterdown progressive rock, so I don't even like to call it that.
If I want to hear anything remotely like this shit, I'll listen to a masterpiece like Ok Computer, Origin of Symmetry or Stupid Dream. New Anathema is so pointless. And not because they're not metal anymore.... I mean although the Silent Enigma is my favourite, Eternity, Alternative 4 and Judgement were great. Even A Fine Day to Exit and A Natural Disaster, but the last two albums seem so contrived. They're trying so hard to be profound when before they did it naturally.

I didn't finish my point there....

So new Anathema is so pointless because they're not writing anything ground breaking or different. 90's Anathema didn't so much create any new genres but when you compare bands similar to them, they were still on their own in terms of sound. They hard their own thing, and it was strictly Anathema. My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost... the closest thing to them? Probably, and they sounded nothing a like. Anathema were doing something so unique. And they changed throughout the 90's but still kept the darkness and originality. Now they're just like so many other post-progressive and alternative bands, there's nothing unique about them anymore.

Leave it to Blabbermouthers to have the least amount of intelligent, open-minded people all in one place.

Oh noes, a band changed their sound and is still putting out incredible music. Oh I forgot, musical evolution is frowned upon by morons who know zilch about music. I'm sure AC/DC will be releasing a new one in about five years for you simpletons.

Ew AC/DC, what a horrible band!

"Oh noes" ?

"Incredible music" ?

Um, ok...

Just because Anathema of the last few years or so have appealed more and more to girls, doesn't mean any male who thinks they were better prior is narrow minded. Open you mind little girl, what a silly suggestion... as was your implication that anyone who loves old skool Anathema must love AC/DC...

Anyway, like I've said pretty much, it'd be good to hear something at least in the realm of quality as A Natural Disaster. Here's hoping!

Also, dumbass, from Serenades to Silent Enigma is a huge piece of musical evolution which has been noted.
Anyone who thinks that their brand of pop rock is musical evolution from what they did in the 90's, is pretty much implying that pop rock is the evolution of metal, doom and a darker brand of rock, which I consider insulting, and well, each to their own, but my opinion of that is you're an ass and should go back to your MTV bands.

Don't know what you guys arew smoking, but the last album was great. And it's coming from a huge fan of the early Anathema stuff. To each their own, I guess.
