METALLICA Will Not Perform Entire 'Black' Album At Australia's SOUNDWAVE - Feb. 3, 2013
According to Australia's Music Feeds, Soundwave festival promoter AJ Maddah has confirmed that METALLICA will not perform its 1991 self-titled effort in its entirety at this year's event, despite widespread rumors to the contrary.

Maddah confirmed the news via his Twitter account on Friday after a fan quizzed him on rumors that appeared on a METALLICA fan forum, indicating that the Soundwave slots were not going to be Black Album shows.

"Not a rumor. They're not doing Black album," Maddah tweeted.

It was previously reported that METALLICA will play a two-hour set at this year's Soundwave, complete with the "Snakepit" rig.

The last time this rig was used was during METALLICA's 2012 European tour where the LP was played backwards, starting with closing number "The Struggle Within" and ending with "Enter Sandman".

Asked whose idea it was for METALLICA to play the "black" album in reverse on the most recent tour, the band's drummer, Lars Ulrich, told Rolling Stone magazine, "If you like the idea, it was mine. If you don't, it was James' [Hetfield, guitar/vocals]. For better or worse, I'm the setlist guy. This is all subject to change if it doesn't work. But the idea of starting off with the lesser-known songs buried down there and ending up with 'Sad But True' and 'Enter Sandman' seems like a winner. You finish with the money shot, which is the first song."

"Metallica" in 2009 surpassed SHANIA TWAIN's 1997 record, "Come On Over", as the best-selling CD of the SoundScan era. To date, the black album has sold more than 16 million copies in the United States.

Although METALLICA had scored their first radio and video airplay with their previous effort, 1988's "...And Justice For All", the black album was the band's biggest commercial breakthrough, producing five singles and making them into one of the most popular rock bands in the world.

My thoughts exactly... I would be selfish though and say, unless it's in the UK, I don't want them to do that, becausse I won't be able to see it... but a new thought comes to mind: If they do play AJFA live, that'll mean they would have relearned the album. They can't play it anymore and I think if they relearned those songs they might remember how to write in a similar vein, which will only mean good things for their next album. Death Magnetic to them was AJFA 2. But anyone with ears can hear that's not the case. Their was a similar aesthetic in a couple songs, but song writing wise, the two albums are two albums, two worlds and two universes a part... I hope they relearn AJFA and remember how good they can be...

This can't be Lars's decision. Lars would rather bore you to death with the commercial Metallica. AJFA would be a cool idea to play full length. If they played anything from AJFA back, it would be an awesome show.

They're going to mix it up, throw in some St Anger, some Reload, some black album and some Lulu.

Their best material imo.

My friend says KEA is overrated and St. Anger is good. He's a funny chap. In the same sentence he said Lucy Pinder wasn't that hot and Smashing Pumkins was better than Nirvana. He was on a roll of shit spewing, entertaining chap.

Anyway, I want to hear a new Metallica album this year. They take too long, have they forgotten how to write?

Isn't their output since the black album indicative of how their writing has wained? Would love to see them play AJFA, but Larz said it himself, he can't play Dyers Eve.

Why not play all of RTL and MOP?

Blackened, Whiplash, Seek & Destroy for the encore, call it a night.

Now THAT I would pay to see.

What's with the mass hard-on for AJFA? That sure as hell wasn't their creative apex.

I'm guessing they're saving MOP to be played in its entirety on Metallica's final tour. They know that's what everyone really wants.

All of Metallica's albums are kinda shitty compared with the other thrash and speed bands of the 80s. C'mon, you know it's true.

Because they pissed off so many of thier old fans that they wont revisit anything before Black album. No one cares to hear the real shit. And beside Lars cant play it anymore.

Metallica have already played puppets and lightning in their entirety and there are some pretty challening songs on both those albums. They'd have no problem playing all of AJFA live. They have already played every song off that album during the death magnetic tour. Some songs have been edited like blackened but the part they cut out isn't exactly challening. They just cut it down to make the song a little more to the point.

And yes they've played dyers eve plenty of times live (without lars doing any double bass of course) but that's no real surprise given he's a lazy bastard at times.

that's because AJ is a knob of the highest order...this is the same promoter that booked Van Halen to play out in the middle of shitsville and when tickets didn't sell to his expectations cancelled the whole fucking thing...whilst blaming supposed bands cancelling on him as the supports...so yeah, he can go fuck himself....
