Video: METALLICA's ROBERT TRUJILLO Plays 'Anesthesia' With Cliff Burton Signature Bass - Feb. 4, 2013
METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo made a surprise appearance at the Aria Guitars booth at this year's NAMM (National Association Of Music Merchants) show in Anaheim, California to play "(Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth" — late METALLICA bassist Cliff Burton's bass solo on the band "Kill 'Em All" album — on the newly launched Aria Pro II Cliff Burton Signature Bass. Check out video footage below.

The Aria Pro II Cliff Burton Signature Bass has been a year in the making and was made with the authorization of the Cliff Burton family and METALLICA. Cliff Burton was the bassist for METALLICA for their first three albums, "Kill 'Em All", "Ride The Lightning" and "Master Of Puppets".

The Aria Pro II Cliff Burton Signature Bass is a replica of the Black 'n Gold I bass that Cliff played. Painstaking attention to detail was taken to build a tribute bass. It has a 7-ply maple/walnut neck with a neck-through, heel-less neck design. It has the same headstock with the patent statement on the front and Cliff Burton's authorized signature on the back of the headstock. Each of the tuners are handcrafted out of brass and gold-plated and the 40mm nut is made of brass. The neck has a 34-inch scale with 24 frets. The fretboard is made of rosewood with cat eye and mother of pearl inlays.

The body is the original SB shape and made of alder. The Aria Pro II Cliff Burton Signature Bass is loaded with an Aria MB-V passive pickup. It has a single tone and volume control with a dual sound mini-toggle switch. The bridge is solid brass with gold plated saddles. The bass will ship inside of a deluxe ostrich hardshell case and a certificate of authenticity signed by Ray Burton. Both players and collectors alike will desire this unique bass guitar.

When the new Aria Pro II Cliff Burton Signature Bass was presented to Cliff's father, Ray Burton, he stated: "What a beautiful instrument and a wonderful tribute to Cliff. The first year Cliff was with METALLICA he played a Rickenbacker guitar that he purchased in 1982. He loved his guitar, but he did not feel it was a strong enough instrument to withstand the rugged treatment of the daily rigors of heavy metal touring. Early in 1984, Cliff was treated to an Aria Pro II bass guitar. He really liked it and therefore did not seek any other bass to play. He told me it was strong and ideal to play. I never heard a discouraging word about his Aria bass guitars. To give testament to his preference, he had several of them at the time of his death."

The Aria Pro II Cliff Burton Signature Bass will be available through authorized Aria dealers in the United States and throughout the world. North America dealers can contact Jim Chen of Audio Images in San Francisco, California at 415-957-9131 for more details.

She also forgot how they used to have the coolest fanbase and ended up with a bunch of toolbags who whine about 'haters'.

I wouldn't even give them 4 albums. I was pretty much done after "Kill Em All" and "Ride the Lightning". "Puppets" was tolerable, "Justice" was so stupidly produced that it was annoying to listen to... and after that, forget it. Total garbage from that point on.

Rob's a great player but just doesn't have the touch that Cliff had. Some of that sounded surprisingly clumsy.

What impresses me the most, is the fact that a (at the time of his death) 24 year old bassplayer has such a huge effect 28 years after his death. That man deserves to be a legend.

metallica earned being the legend they are.
they were a great band until 96/97, yes, I think even the first 2 legs of the load tour were great when they could still pull off shortest straw and that kill/ride medley.

BUT once upon a time being a metallica fan was about devotion to heavy metal and a case of beer with friends in a park. being a fan of a heavy metal band that consists of heavy metal fans.

the fans that got into them after hetfield's rehab think put metallica on some throne, think they never do wrong, don't really get high on the energy of the music, take the band over the genre and actually believe lars is still a great drummer and hetfield a great singer.

as for the short hair thing... I think you had to be there to understand. everybody expected a kick ass album and then you got until it sleeps. meeeeh. big let down. it was more about the pimp suits and lars's public declarations that heavy metal is dead, pigeonholed and that nobody needs the 45th version a new album by running wild.

bottom line is that the guys in metallica are now pretty cool guys, after falling off the rockstar wagon and realizing that they are not invulnerable. can't say that about their fanbase. the 2 big four shows I attented were the best proof.

The audio quality of the clip leaves more than a bit to be desired: constant shit going on in the background with people talking and dudes wanking on guitars, he's not using a wah or any real drive/dirt that I can hear, , and probably more or less pulled it out of his ass to begin with just to give the spectators something - (you notice he's not even wearing a strap?). Obviously the Metallica of now is not the Metallica a lot of us grew up with but be that as it may Rob is a damned good bass player. Seeing him with Suicidal Tendencies earlier in his career was awesome. Say what you will about Metallica now but hiring him was one of their better decisions over the past 10 years.

funny how the guy is just noodling on a bass at NAMM checking it out and fucking around with his back turned to the camera probably unaware that he was even being filmed... playing with no Wah, no FX...just fucking around and people here rip the shit outa the guy saying he's clumsy and he sucks and he's nowhere near Cliff...

and yeah you're right. He's NOWHERE near Cliff, but then who is really?

Robert's a great player in his own right.

St Anger and the albums after that have only sold because of the name Metallica. and the same happens with lots of bands and people when they are supposed to be cool at any given time, they can sell any shit they put out, many great examples today are Eminem, Linkin Park, Nickelback, Britney and any of those talentless people.
