TONY IOMMI And BRIAN MAY To Release Collaborative Album? - Feb. 15, 2013
BLACK SABBATH's Tony Iommi and QUEEN's Brian May are said to be planning a collaborative album that will allow fans to build their own songs around the musicians' unused material.

Iommi lifted the curtain on the rockers' secret project in the latest issue of Kerrang! magazine, in which a number of fellow musicians pose questions to the QUEEN axeman.

Iommi asked, "When are we going to get to work on that album of riffs together? You know what I'm talking about…" May replied: "Yes, I do know what he's talking about and I'm very, very keen. The record he's talking about was supposed to be a secret but I guess he's blown it now!"

He explained that on visiting Iommi's studio, he was struck by the amount of unused material the BLACK SABBATH guitarist had. "I thought it would be great to make a compilation out of them," May said. "The idea was to put all these riffs out in some form so that people could build their own songs from them. You could make your own music with Tony Iommi on guitar!"

Just hope they write good properly structured songs with a decent singer. Not just a mess off hashed together riffs otherwise it will end up sounding like Death Magnetic and nobody wants that.

If you don't think this is great news, you suck.

Tony is not to worried about the new Sabbath record.

unused material = new Sabbath record?

I hope Sabbath don't use the Van Halen playbook, use old songs written years ago and not good enough for any albums and put together a record and tour for the love of money.

Why would you think that? Tony Iommi has been saying for years that he has thousands of unused riffs... So haven't all of his collaborators.. Cozy Powell in 1989 was saying Iommi had thousands of riffs on tape .. He couldn't believe it... bags and bags of cassettes loaded with ideas .. Tony says he never uses them because he keeps coming up with new ones. But if the well ever runs dry.. he has a huge backlog... The new Sabbath album will not be a bunch of leftovers.

wow--tony iommi is such a musical humanitarian===
==
that is gold what he is talking about
-0--
as far as guitar tone---having tony's flat out on the computer--is about as cool as "computer music" shit could get
---
i hope they get the different eras of his tones---like "heaven and hell" is different than "master of reality"---get both/also the different lead tone eras

also---even though there seems to be something weird about queen as far as "agenda bullshit" is concerned

no one has better sounding guitar harmonies than brian may---it would like "help the world" if people had access on computer to reproduce that shit-----also his rhythm tone is really good
---

maybe they could work it as a trigger ---so people playing the guitar thru the computer could get those tones maybe
---
even just having tony go down the scale with power chords---starting on e==then moving up

so people could compose --using his tone

---
even do the supposed crappy tones from the earlier albums--exactly "as is"---
--
they should also do something like this based of napalm death's guitar tone someday

Tony and Brian are inventing heavy metal karaoke here. That was a great idea to do something with those thousands of unused riffs that might have just been destroyed after the Iron Man reunites with Dio and swaps licks with Hendrix in the Great Gig in the Sky.

What's that thing on Brian May's head?

Less an album, more an Iommi 'plug in' or application. Cool regardless. Will Brian be adding some of his riffs also, or just compiling it with/for Tony?
