VOIVOD Frontman Suffering From Diverticulitis; Shows Postponed - Feb. 16, 2013
Canadian metal innovators VOIVOD have released the following statement:

"VOIVOD has had to postpone any shows for the immediate future as Snake [vocalist Denis Belanger] needs four-six weeks rest due to a procedure for diverticulitis, a common digestive disease. This affects the MS Benefit in Ottawa and the SXSW shows, this should not affect the Santiago, Chile Metal Fest appearance in April. More tour news to be announced shortly."

VOIVOD's new album, "Target Earth", sold around 1,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD was issued on January 22 via the band's own company, Iron Gang Factory, and Century Media.

VOIVOD's previous album, "Infini", opened with around 840 units back in July 2009.

"Target Earth" was recorded in early 2012 at Pierre Rémillard's (OBLIVEON, CRYPTOPSY, KRISIUN, MISERY INDEX) Wild Studio in a small town called St-Zénon in Quebec, Canada and was mixed by Sanford Parker (PELICAN, NACHTMYSTIUM). The follow-up to 2009's "Infini" contains the band's first music to be written with guitarist Dan Mongrain (MARTYR) following the passing of original axeman Denis "Piggy" D'Amour in 2005. The original art was once again drawn by drummer Michel "Away" Langevin and features color schemes from each one of the band's previous albums.

Massive positive vibes to Snake.
Metal -and this band, doesn't need a 2013 retirement/death.

Target Earth is highly underrated and clearly didn't sell as well as it deserves.

Psychedelic prog metal. HELLO??? Come on! This rocks!

Take care, Snake, I'm sure you'll be fine in no time.

Yes,get well soon please. This is one of my all time favorite bands in prog metal or any metal. The new lp is some of the best work they have ever done. Please my fellow metal heads. If you are a Voivod fan,go out and buy the LP and support a band that is still going strong after 31 yrs and counting.1,500 copies is shit for a band with the creativity and songwriting ability these guys have.A band that can never be copied because they are to creative too let that happen.

His diet is shit. It's what killed Piggy as well. They need to pay more attention to the things they put in thier bodies. We can't afford to lose another Voivodian.

I do too. I don't have it so bad that they wanna take a chunk of intestine out (thank god) but when it flares up, it cripples me for about a week.

I know a guy who did have to have a chunk of intestine taken out. The post-surgery pain, he says, was unbearable. You don't realize how much you move around your midsection doing practically anything.

My father got that, it gave him back problems as well. He had a part of his intestine removed and after that he was in top shape. This is far from a pleasant thing to have but nowadays it's not that dramatic unless it's treated past a certain point. Prompt recovery to you Snake!

Unfortunate, it basically ended Brock Lesnars MMA career. I think there are varying degrees of it, for his sake hopefully a lesser degree.

Seems most are oblivious to the detrimental effects of not getting enough fiber into the body. Most disease such as this would cease to be an issue if most were a bit more informed about proper nutrition at a young age, something this country doesn't put a high priority on. This is obvious from the response. I don't expect many to understand this anyway...have another soda to chase down that pizza...
