QUEENSRŸCHE's SCOTT ROCKENFIELD Interviewed On 'Gear Addicts' (Video) - Feb. 21, 2013
Ryan and Jason of "Gear Addicts" recently conducted an interview with QUEENSRŸCHE drummer Scott Rockenfield. You can now watch the chat below.

Asked about what fans can expect from QUEENSRŸCHE's upcoming live shows, Rockenfield recently told Live From The Music City: "Our plan that we've been doing for the last six months, basically, is really focusing on the material that we haven't really been able to focus on for quite a long time. One, that's kept us really excited and it's fresh for us and it's been a lot of fun to perform that type of stuff, but it's also… I think the fans are really enjoying that — that we're kind of revisiting old material. We're going back to the days of the cool stuff from the EP all the way up until the 'Empire' record. That's kind of the focus of the setlist that we're doing — we're playing songs that we haven't played in a long time, and we're playing songs that we haven't played at all, I don't think, ever in our history. I think it's good, it's fresh, it's an intense show, and basically, for us, the rock is back. And that's kind of our focus. Listen, our roots were always that. QUEENSRŸCHE's roots from the very early days was that type of music — the genre of metal and hard rock was really big for us, and I think that's what we're trying to revisit and have fun doing. It's fun for me, because I have to relearn all that stuff, just 'cause we haven't really performed a lot of that material for such a long time. It keeps you on the edge of your seat, 'cause you've gotta think about it; it doesn't just come second nature. So we've had to kind of dig in deep, but in doing so, you kind of remember why you did and why you enjoyed it so much back then. And I guess it's keeping us young."

As previously reported, the Todd La Torre-fronted version of QUEENSRŸCHE has finished recording the drums for its new album at London Bridge Studios in Seattle, Washington with producer James "Jimbo" Barton — the man who engineered and mixed the band's classic 1988 LP, "Operation: Mindcrime", and its 1990 follow-up, "Empire", and co-produced 1994's "Promised Land". The rest of the music and vocals are being laid down at several different facilities on the West Coast.

In a recent interview with Metal Assault, Rockenfield stated about QUEENSRŸCHE's renewed collaboration with Barton: "It's a great thing — we're really excited about it, he's really excited about it. We've wanted to work with him for a while, but for whatever reason, we just hadn't gone there yet. This is a great time for us to do that, though. We all discussed who we wanted to do the record with, and he was one of the first names that came up. It was easy for us to pick up the phone and call him. It was like our relationship picked up right where it left off, so it's gonna be a lot of fun. He's a very creative guy that did some great records with us in the past. I think that's one of the most important things when it comes to why we want to work with him."

Asked if fans will see a return to the progressive metal sound QUEENSRŸCHE had in the '80s, Scott said: "What we're trying to do, and what has been really interesting since Todd has jumped into the band, we're trying to revisit the old QUEENSRŸCHE catalog — stuff off of the EP and "The Warning". That's always been a part of what we are, so yeah, definitely! I think in my opinion, we're really revisiting that vibe of why that music was special back then for us. There will be a modern flair to it, though, just because we're in the modern age. The fun thing about Jimbo being a part of it is that he can help tie together the two sides. He does come from our past and some of the great records and some of the great sounds that we're known for, but he's also living in the modern age and doing some interesting things as well. I think it's going to be a really great QUEENSRŸCHE record. People are going to go, 'Wow, that's QUEENSRŸCHE! That sounds just like what we've known them to be, and what we would expect them to now be.' That's what I think peple will get out of it."

I'm just really into the idea of an OMC 26th and 1/2 year anniversary tour just around the bend! It will be great, a bunch of dudes that have no business playing queensryche songs are gonna jam that shit out!

"we're playing songs that we haven't played at all, I don't think, ever in our history."

Scott, dude, you need to stop saying this...every song in the setlist has been played before. The only ones not played recently are Child of Fire, Warning, Prophecy... everything else has been played since 2000... and those 3 were played on the Warning tour...

And you're only playing one (1) song from the EP, which was played often in 2001... so yeah, not for awhile, but not ancient history... En Force was played every night when opened for Priest in 2000...

So really, yes, it's great you are playing three (3) songs that haven't been played since the 80's... but that's not really a big deal.

What you should be more concerned about is getting your new album out before Geoff Tate puts out his train wreck and kills the Queensryche name for good.

I'm guessing Scott really means that the songs are played in the original key and sung by a guy that gives a damn. It's been a long time since that's happened.

Scott Rockenfield has now fully realized his goal of becoming the face, voice, creative mastermind and business leader of his new version of Queensryche. What a difference a year can make. It's shocking to think that if his "assistant to the manager" wife was never fired for poor performance, Scott Rockenfield would never have stabbed his bandmate of 30 years in the back and would to this day still be 100% behind every idea and decision made by Geoff Tate while happily focused on his role as drummer of the original Queensryche.

Wisely, Rockenfield has many projects outside of the band lined up which will allow him to continue having a stable income and successful life in the future. My deepest sympathies go out to Michael Wilton and Eddie Jackson for what will become of their careers after this November.

So if Scott's wife was fired from the business, why didn't he assault all his bandmates before a performance and then wait until they were doing their jobs entertaining thousands of people who paid to see them and then spit in all their faces repeatedly while they were working and then threaten all their lives while they were in a foreign country? After all, that's the excuse of all Geoff Tate's supporters. Isn't OK to assault everyone in the company at the work place if your wife is fired? Oh wait, only a PSYCHOPATH does that? Ah, so that's why Geoff Tate's career is over!

Thanks for clearing that up Mish!

Stabbed in the back? As opposed to spit on in the face or sucker punched? Unlike your sugar daddy (and given the "success of his solo work", soon to be sugar-free daddy), at least Rockenfield was professional enough to finish up the set despite being spit on throughout (although I doubt you know much about spitting). The only thing professional about GT is that he married one.

Douche 1 (Mishy) tags out and in comes Douche 2 (FRx). So, giving an interview is proof that Rockenfield has taken full control of the band? Well, if full control means that QR puts out a kick ass metal album ... as opposed to the shit they've done for the last 15 years ... then it is a long time coming. When QR was most successful, they had a businessman handling the business side of things ... then Jeffy's hissy fits cause DeGarmo to leave and Jeffy put his stripper in charge. The result ... 15 years of, at best, mediocrity but, all too often, just plain shit. This change is a long, long overdue.

There was more there to hear Scott Rockenfield talk than Geoff has played to since he was FIRED.

That's justice that is.

You missed the most important point in that entire interview. At 37:46 Rockenfield alludes to QR having a new record label.

New management with Live Nation. Successful tour. Recording with Jim Barton again. And now, a new label that is global and connected, implying that Queensryche have managed to sign with someone better than Cleopatra.

Not bad for a bunch of guys who supposedly couldn't survive without Geoff Tate.

Haha, true. It's hard to do worse than Cleopatra. The only thing lower would be signing with some dude selling your CDs out of the back of his El Camino.

Either way, massive FAIL, Blabbermouth. Rockenfield alludes to a record label and you guys don't even mention it. Aren't you guys supposed to mention news?

It sounds like you took too much of your lorazepam again, your performance today was sleepy and tired, and like Geoff Tate, completely out of key.

I think you need to cut back on your anti-depressants again, go to your local Starbucks and grab your Venti Mocha Chip Breve Frappuccino and wake yourself up again before you post again. And try to remember that Frappuccino is taken orally, not nasally.

Scott is a really interesting and eloquent dude... He alot of really cool stuff going on, but stuff that is allied, and in someways beneficial, for Queensryche! Didn't know he worked on COD: Black Ops.

Y'know what would be really cool... an Operation Mindrcrime game in the vein of a modern dystopian Dishonored style assassin game. just imagine high res hottie sister mary!

Looking forward to this new album, as i can't help but feel there will be some kind of cinematic quality to it - much like some of the early stuff!

... And pathetic!

Scott is a horrible interview... best quote of the interview.

"Money, money... I like money" AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Tate-haters get your wallets ready. Scott is gunning for your dollars and lack of sence.

@mister_mish: I love that you brought that up, a lot of people don't know (or gloss over) the fact that Scott's ol' lady got canned, just before the mutiny. Ironic... then Scott fires GTs ol' lady. The trigger that started the shit storm.

My advice to the hired musicians in the band... Watch your publishing, make sure all the "It's are dotted and the T's crossed." For you are swimming in a pool of sharks. Make sure to cash those $600 per week checks asap. And don't burn any bridges at your day jobs... you're gonna need them when you aren't gigging.

How do you dot an IT?

And as I pointed out above. Scott didn't attack anyone when his wife stopped working for the band. The only "shit storm" is that Geoff Tate is a fucking whack job. If his family member gets fired (which happens all the time in business) he thinks workplace violence is the answer. If a crowd that he's being PAID to entertain doesn't stroke his precious ego, he tells them they suck. Scott handles his business professionally. Geoff Tate is fucking nuts!

And who doesn't like money? Get real!

And Taint doesn't like money? Is that why he tried to screw the rest of the band out of the money he was trying to get for the Mindcrime movie?

As for Rockenfield's wife getting fired ... big difference between firing and employee and firing the manager. Rockenfield did not fire Taint's stripper wife ... the QR corporation fired her.

Congrats ... you are about the dumbest son of a bitch on here. You must be the retarded love child of Mishy and FRx where you got both of their dumbass genes.

@Dharma:
Difference is… the members of Tate’s version all know they are just hired employees and know what they are signing up for. Besides it’s only a month of dates & indi album. The real shenanigans would start post the court date in November, when he gets the name.

@OldSchoolMetal:
Who doesn’t like money…. but you don’t say that in an interview. I can’t wait for the other shit that will come out of his mouth now that he is the “spokesman”. He had at least 4 different plugs on this interview. Hahahahahahaha… and you guys bitch about wine.

Besides what do you know about the contracts for the animated Mindcrime movie? Did actually read all the fine print in the contract yourself… or you’re basing it on what you read online? He had a grip of cash lined up for the all of them. With him getting the $ for the story and the band getting $ for the soundtrack. Then they pulled this stupid shit… and it evaporated. Now the next time they sign anything for MC, they’ll have to split it with their new “cut throat” management. Brilliant move! That’s if any body cares after all this drama.

BTW- it was Scott’s idea to hire GT’s ol’ lady in the first place. The corporation aka… cowardly 3. Then he fired her via lawyers and letters without even talking it over with their biz partner. Because they are all gutless chickens, who let the lead singer take complete control of their band.

I believe it is you who is a stupid fucking cunt. Now go get your credit card ready fan boy… Scott just posted his sweaty underware from the last gig on his eBay page. FU!

I feel sorry for you, I really do. I'm glad you feel like all of the truth is coming from from your boyfriend and I'm glad you know what the real truth is. I guess the guy Tate told to keep QR out of the loop is a liar ... in large part because Big Daddy Taint said so. Oh, well.

You've got your opinion, I've got mine. Mine is rooted in an opinion based on research. God knows what yours is based on but you clearly believe you're right and everyone is wrong. For your sake I hope Tate is more successful than I think he's going to be because, if he's not, he's not going to be able to afford any more lube for you.

That's the best one yet, i can just see it now in any band. Drummer says to the other members of the band - "You know that mentally imbalanced, emotionally unstable, singer we have? Well y'know his ex-stripper, star fucker wife that has no background in the music industry OR management? I think we should hire her as our manager. I'm confident that won't create any power shift in his favour within the band whatsoever"

Also Gino, you seem to be getting more aggressive as your income dwindles. Imagine how spitty you'll be after november.
