DEEP PURPLE: New Album Audio Teaser - Feb. 21, 2013
British hard rock legends DEEP PURPLE will release their 19th studio album via earMUSIC, the Hamburg, Germany-based international rock label which is part of Edel Group, on the following dates:

Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Finland, Spain: April 26
UK, France, Benelux, Poland, Czech Republic, Norway, Denmark: April 29
North America, Italy: April 30
Sweden: May 1

A short audio teaser for the CD is available below.

After various songwriting sessions in Europe, the band recorded and mixed the album in Nashville, Tennessee with producer Bob Ezrin (KISS, PINK FLOYD, PETER GABRIEL, ALICE COOPER, KANSAS). The CD is expected to contain 13 tracks, including "Out Of Hand", "Hell To Pay", "Weirdistan", "Uncommon Man" and "Above And Beyond". The latter song references the band's late keyboard player, Jon Lord, in the lyric "Souls having touched are forever entwined."

According to earMUSIC, the CD is "rumored to be the perfect match from the original spirit of '70s PURPLE, and a fresh and modern production."

Regarding the album title, Gillan offered the following cryptic comment to Classic Rock: "There's a big question mark over the name at the moment. And possibly an exclamation mark as well. You can read what you like into what I've just said. All will become clear — as mud — later on. That's all I'm allowed to say. The question mark and the exclamation mark might get you intrigued."

earMUSIC will reveal details about the new DEEP PURPLE album in real time as soon as they will become available on a dedicated web site where all band members will also be able to post and interact with the fans: www.deeppurple2013.com.

DEEP PURPLE's 18th studio album, "Rapture of the Deep", was released in November 2005. It was the fourth studio CD from DEEP PURPLE since guitarist Steve Morse joined the band in 1994. It was also the second album to feature veteran keyboardist Don Airey.

"Rapture of the Deep" was produced by Mike Bradford, who also worked on the band's previous release, 2003's "Bananas".

When the riff kicked in it felt pretty good. Looking forward to this, hope it's as good as Purpendicular.

is a fantastic guitar virtuoso, but he just doesn't bring the same attitude and sound that Blackmore did. I wish Ritchie would come back from his woodland skipping adventure in hobbiton and play rock again.

In other news come see Blackmore's Night performing the Bonner Springs renaissance festival. Souvenir leather mugs and turkey legs available at the stand located next to the jousters cirle.

Having never heard Asia, my first thought was that it sounds a bit like Toto, who I quite like.

From the two clips I've heard, the production will finally be strong again. They've sounded pretty average on the last three albums. Ezrin has been worthwhile in that regard no doubt.

I like Morse, love Purpendicular, but as has been the case with a lot of his work with DP, when the riff kicks in, it lacks heaviness and immediacy/razor sharpness that Blackmore was so good at.

I enjoy bits of all the Morse albums, I'm sure I'll enjoy some of this too, but sometimes I just want to grab Morse and scream enough with the light touch airy fairy intro's we've heard a hundred times, and play a guitar with a heavier, crisper tone for riffing!.

Deep Purple always did light and shade, that's fine, but Morse is not a heavy rock guitarist at heart, and it shows.

Love these guys. Amazing band. It's gonna be interesting to hear this. Seems like they've taken a more epic approach on this one.

Close, but i'm hearing Kansas ;)

Roger Glover is a dink, i asked him jokely who is a better bass player him or Lemmy and he turned give me a mean look and said who do think. I thought he would say a funny comment about Lemmy or something. Who knows maybe he was having a bad Bandana day.

Perfect Strangers is still a masterpiece.

Sounded like absolute shit.

Who Cares showed Gillan still has the goods to make great rock n roll, but Purple has got the wrong guitarist. Morse can wail, but like Satch in Chickenfoot, doesn't bring that nasty, definitive rock n roll riff that the rest of the band need to build on.

Not having Blackmore is not a dealbreaker, but having Morse is. Saw a video of them live on Axis TV not too long ago... how the mighty have fallen.

The songs and the energy of Purpendicular made me really enjoy it, despite Morse's tone. Since then, they lost the fire, the songs, Lord, and Morse rarely sounds right.

Every fan I speak to agrees. However, he's enabled the band to enjoy themselves into old age without any big problems. I can't begrudge them that.

I'll put my two cents in. Like Steve Howe Morse is technically excellent. The thing is the man has no grit, and there's no soul in his playing. The boots I've heard with Satch are much better - and when Bolin was on - he was on fire.

I've never felt like they were Deep Purple with Morse - just that it was DP featuring Morse. There are blues rock guitarists with range. Hell I'd love to hear a DP record with Leslie West on it.

Purple is a legacy, not only a band. They have been able to keep it alice tighter than Zeppelin, Alice Cooper(original band) or Sabbath. They are a true fan based band. They, for me are thee greatest testament to a living legacy,so FUCK off to all haters

Holy shit sounds awesome!! I've never really considered Morse sound as Deep Purple but if they can go near The Battle Rages On (which this one sounds a bit like it) it would be great, I love that album!

I hope somebody smack the be-jesus out of that Blackmore dude and stop smoking fairy crack!! (I bet his wife has a fine fairy crack he'd like to smoke but still...shouldn't turn his back on rock n' roll after all he's done goddamn it!)

That sounded like the soundtrack from a low budget 80's movie. I like the addition of Don Airey in theory, but that clip showed me NOTHING.

I was hoping for more with the teaser. There is some promise, but it seemed to drag on and I kept thinking, where is the Hammond? Don' is a great musician but really, like Morse, maybe not the right kind of guy for the band. I'd like to see Gregg Rolie on keys (I mean is organ playing is intense, just listen to any old Santana and his solo stuff is light but awesome but he needs to rock out again) and on guitar and this will sound strange, but makes sense since he is a Blackmore wanna be - YJM. He has chops, plays heavy, and would literally shit a brick ton of donuts to play with Purple.

"where is the Hammond"

I would claim that since the Morse/Airy combo is not capable of getting "that sound". The classic dirty purple sound. And Gillan can't do the screaming no more. It's better that they take a different approach, and make their own updated sound. Hopefully more towards classy 70's prog rock.

It can still be exciting, even though it's not the same formula. And let's face it, Purple hasn't really ever sounded the same anyway. 80's Blackmore sounded totally different from 70's Blackmore. And even Machine Head sounded totally different from Fireball. They have always been changing.

"Morse never played in Kansas...."

In 1986, Morse joined the rock group Kansas. While with the band, they released two albums, Power and In the Spirit of Things. While he was with the band, Kansas had its last big hit, "All I Wanted," which reached the Billboard Top 20 and on which Morse received co-writing credit. Morse left the band after touring behind the latter album. He re-joined the band for part of their 1991 tour.

MK 3 should definitely going into the RNR HOF.

I don't consider Gillen as the main singer. Coverdale rules.
