TODD LA TORRE-Fronted Version Of QUEENSRŸCHE: Audio Sample Of New Song Available - Feb. 23, 2013
A 90-second audio sample of a new song called "Redemption" from the the Todd La Torre-fronted version of QUEENSRŸCHE was premiered on last night's (Friday, February 22) edition of Eddie Trunk's "Friday Night Rocks" radio show on New York's Q104.3 FM and can now be streamed in the YouTube clip below.

As previously reported, the Todd La Torre-fronted version of QUEENSRŸCHE has finished recording the drums for its new album at London Bridge Studios in Seattle, Washington with producer James "Jimbo" Barton — the man who engineered and mixed the band's classic 1988 LP, "Operation: Mindcrime", and its 1990 follow-up, "Empire", and co-produced 1994's "Promised Land". The rest of the music and vocals are being laid down at several different facilities on the West Coast.

In a recent interview with Metal Assault, drummer Scott Rockenfield stated about QUEENSRŸCHE's renewed collaboration with Barton: "It's a great thing — we're really excited about it, he's really excited about it. We've wanted to work with him for a while, but for whatever reason, we just hadn't gone there yet. This is a great time for us to do that, though. We all discussed who we wanted to do the record with, and he was one of the first names that came up. It was easy for us to pick up the phone and call him. It was like our relationship picked up right where it left off, so it's gonna be a lot of fun. He's a very creative guy that did some great records with us in the past. I think that's one of the most important things when it comes to why we want to work with him."

Asked if fans will see a return to the progressive metal sound QUEENSRŸCHE had in the '80s, Scott said: "What we're trying to do, and what has been really interesting since Todd has jumped into the band, we're trying to revisit the old QUEENSRŸCHE catalog — stuff off of the EP and "The Warning". That's always been a part of what we are, so yeah, definitely! I think in my opinion, we're really revisiting that vibe of why that music was special back then for us. There will be a modern flair to it, though, just because we're in the modern age. The fun thing about Jimbo being a part of it is that he can help tie together the two sides. He does come from our past and some of the great records and some of the great sounds that we're known for, but he's also living in the modern age and doing some interesting things as well. I think it's going to be a really great QUEENSRŸCHE record. People are going to go, 'Wow, that's QUEENSRŸCHE! That sounds just like what we've known them to be, and what we would expect them to now be.' That's what I think peple will get out of it."

Folks, what we have here is a band who have completely lost their identity. A band so wrapped up in nostalgia that they have forgotten what set them apart from the pack they were born of. A band who have regressed back into an infancy where entry level "metal" guitar riffs and high pitched vocal harmonies still take precedence over emotionally driven songwriting and progressive ideas. Soulless, by-the-numbers music made "in the style of" music that has already been made.

Yet, it still misses the mark they were shooting for. Queensryche fans, please do me a favor. Play this clip for all of your friends and then ask them to tell you who the band is. Give them five guesses. I guarantee you that the name "Queensryche" will never be uttered.

We now have tangible proof that Geoff Tate is and always has been the driving force behind Queensryche. This is the result of an attempt at "Queensryche music" without his creative input and it is clearly lacking that intangible magic. However, at the end of the day, this is only 90 seconds and nothing fans need to dwell on. The soon to be released full-length album from Geoff Tate's new Queensryche lineup will indeed fill the void that we all are aware of at this moment.

I'm curious why Tate's "all star" version of Queensryche isn't writing any of the new material, or even playing on the album. I guess they're "all stars" who aren't "all star" enough to contribute to the creative process.

More classic comedy. Wow! How I envoy your rhetorical style. I agree, however, that this clip is proof that Tate has been the creative force in Queensryche - especially later-era Queensryche. This track had some teeth to it, unlike anything I've heard from Queensryche in the last 20 years.

Go ahead MISTER MISHTY, spin this any way you want, this 90 seconds was better than anything on Kings & Thieves. I didn't hear a word about somebody's middle aged libido on there, just honest metal music.

Suck it Mister Mishty, FireReaverX, and Jeffery Loux, if you're reading.

GT will never ever write music like these 90 seconds, that the new Real QR is presenting. He will continue to dwell within some grungy gone away for good trend music, suck at playing his Sax,Smell like old wine while he insults his few fans or audience showing up at the local grill or bar in some quiet part of town.

Members of his version of QR will be covered in spit, while crew members look after GT because he might assault them any second. Or have kinky sex with his old stripper whore of a wife.

The Ryche is back! At times, Todd sounds so frighteningly similar to Geoff Tate, you could easily mistake the vocals for being Geoff if you weren't aware of all the shenanigans that have gone on in the last year or so. lol But to me, this is a good thing. Geoff's voice was an important element in classic Queensryche, and this way, we get the voice, but without all the crippling negativity that the man himself wreaked on the band in the last few years.

The truth is, Geoff needed to be booted for Queensryche to survive, and this sample has me very excited indeed for the new album! Todd has a great voice, and more importantly, the band actually sound like Queensryche now, which is something that can't be said for the vast majority of the post-DeGarmo Ryche material. Bring on the new album! xD

The bass sound reminds me of Promised Land (not surprising, considering who's involved)... pretty nice.

La Torre definitely has the "throatiness" that echoes Geoff just enough to where the melodies are familiar, but with their own added flair that is uniquely his. Sort of reminds me of what Stu Block is bringing to Iced Earth these days.

Sounds pretty good, but I do hope that they do some stuff that has some edge to it. Once of Tate's biggest problems - and this is where the echoes of his throatiness come in - is that at times he sounded really bored (Hear in the Now Frontier, I'm looking right at you). Hopefully that artifact of the commonalities b/w him and La Torre won't be too prominent in the new QT stuff.

I'm really looking forward to this.

I'm also really looking forward to seeing it's chart positions and comparing them with K&T and Geoff Tate's next solo album that he has the gall of stealing his former bands name on.

I'm also looking forward to Camp Tate's excuses about Tate's appeal becoming more selective.

I'm looking forward to seeing Queensrÿche in april and buying a new Rÿche t-shirt.

I'm really looking forward to Tate being bought out of QR's future earnings after losing big time in court in november.

Yes indeedy, it's a good year to be a fan of Queensrÿche.

First of that's the best 90 seconds of Queensryche since the last 90 seconds on the songs that were good on Tribe. At least Open. Now on to Mish piece by piece.

Losing the Tate identity is what this is all about and if you haven't noticed the majority of fans this side of the usual 7 or so on here and the ones lost in the shuffle of lies on other Tate's sites have wanted. Reviews and thumbs ups don't lie. Fans have wanted the nostaligic sound for years, the metal riffs, the high pitched harmonies that Tate can no longer do. If emotionally driven songwriting and progressive ideas are what Tate is doing and has been doing, then most don't want any part of it. Oh and your music made in the style of music already made comment, try AC/DC. I think they're doing a lot better than Tate. Strike one.

Yet, it still misses the mark they were shooting for. Queensryche fans, please do me a favor. Play this clip for all of your friends and then ask them to tell you who the band is. Give them five guesses. I guarantee you that the name "Queensryche" will never be uttered.

Who's we? 7 employees, two strippers and tons of "yes men"? What are you shooting for? Running the brand into the ground. You've missed the target the last 10 years. You really want fans to play to this to all they're friends. Ok but I think your not going to like what happens. Strike two.

Your right about the proof I'll give you that. Geoff Tate was the driving force, into career suicide. If it is attempt at Queensryche music it's better than any Tate/Slater/Gray attempt in the past 13 years. At least. This is 90 seconds for fans to dwell on. This 90 seconds is better than Kings and Thieves, DTC, and anything the future Geoff Tate and friends album combined. And this Geoff Tate void you speak of. The sun came up today, will tomorrow. My life continues as if nothing happened, nothing is lost. If anything the void of the last 13 or so years was filled when Geoff was fired. Strike 3 pal. Try again.

If you wan't to live in this Geoff Tate world of insanity with your employee friends and clueless leader who is losing is mind more and more each it day be my guest. You followed him in now your world or insane posts, lies, clueless comments and every kind of bullshit imaginable is crashing down on you. Have fun on the bus. If it dosen't catch fire again.

This song sounds very contrived to me and La Torre's vocals are all over the place. Not impressed by this at all.

Mish is right on with this statement:

"A band who have regressed back into an infancy where entry level "metal" guitar riffs and high pitched vocal harmonies still take precedence over emotionally driven songwriting and progressive ideas. Soulless, by-the-numbers music made "in the style of" music that has already been made. "

It sounds to me like a bunch of teenagers in Norway attempting to make a Iron Maiden cover song or something... it's really just not that good.

The only reason Queensryche fans are jumping for joy is because they think it's 'better' than anything the band has done in 20 years... well, it's more metal sure, but 'better'? Not really.

Look I agree Geoff needed to leave these guys, but after hearing this clip I am more excited about his Queensryche record than this contrived nonsense.

Either way both 'Queensryches' are fucked anyway by all the drama and BS.

It's only 90 seconds but... this clip sounds like a thousand of other bland, boring, cliched, metal bands. The riffs and dual solo are generic. The vocals melodies go nowhere the chorus is really cheesy... shockingly lame.

My true opinion... hope this is the worse of the lot, but I doubt it.

Sorry, but a Tate nut-swinger has no room to talk about anything being cheesy when Uncle Vester is writing songs about his stripper wife riding him like an exercise machine.

In no shape or form does this sound like Iron Maiden. That is about the last band I would compare this to. Most of Mindcrime sound more like Maiden than this.

Whatever just calling it like I hear it. I would do the same to GT... don't like DtC and liked half of AS, dug 7/8 of K&T. My honest opinion sorry if your fan-douche ass can't take it.

Besides its you that is the nut swinger... flying out to multiple shows, paying for VIP packages and fan club fees, bidding on Scott's dirty socks on his eBay store. All to please 3 original un-originals and a couple of hired armatures.

Good for you... AHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Haven't had the pleasure of seeing the new and improved QR in concert. The only travel I do these days is for work. HOWEVER, I've seen plenty of YouTube clips online that show me that these guys are the real deal and that they have their shit together.

When they come around to my area, I'll definitely pay to see them. And I'll buy the new CD on the basis of the music. If this 90 second clip is anything to go by, Queensryche will deliver.

It's more obvious than ever that Tate was holding them back with his shitty lyrics, shot voice and lounge act. It's a good thing they got their spine back and fired him.

I'm not enamored with the chorus, sounds too much like the dark ages (1997-2011) that the vast majority of us want to forget, which is more than a little baffling to me. They need to distance themselves as much as they can from anything that sounds post-O:M - and that's not to say there aren't a few Empire and Promise Land songs I like a lot, even Della Brown if I'm being completely honest, but at this point I just don't want to hear any new songs that could fit in with those albums. Musically, it shows some promise though.

Put me down as one of the anti-Tate camp that nonetheless is still skeptical of what the final result will be here... and yet still hopeful.

because if it is this is going to be a bad listen. I'll admit the opening riff gave it a good start, but that chorus was god awful. Loved scotts drum sound, not impressed with the guitar work. Looking like the QR name should be retired.

the mix haters need to step back! they have only just finished tracking the drums so this is still just a rough mix!
i have been a fan since the EP and seen them loads of times and i was gutted when i heard geoff Vest had been fired but now im stoked to hear these new samples and have my tickets for their uk shows in april! Their albums have gone from bad to worse over the years but on just the clips i have heard i believe this new release will be better than anything since promised land! i cant even listen to the last album or say its name lol.

To hear all the "expert" producers and musicians posting about songcraft, mixes etc. I'm a singer guitarist myself and for a 90 second clip it sounds damn good to me! Sounds like Queensryche! It's hard to tell if it's a great track with maybe a third posted. Enjoy life dudes, after all it's rock music not a thesis on geopolitics.

It certainly sounds more promising that anything taint has put his name to in the last 15 years!

the sounds in the album teaser were more promising though, but i have a feeling that they're being smart - and not wanting to give too much away too early.

It's obvious that the taint camp are watching and listening to their every move in an attempt to second guess them and possibly steal ideas - because they're completely bereft of any themselves.

All in all i'm confident we'll get a great album from Todd and the guys!

As for the abortion that taint is planning... fuck him and his scabs, they wont see a penny of my money.

Sorry, but this sounds like really boring and uninspired Queensryche. Looking forward so much more to Geoff's version as his solo album was amazing.
