MEGADETH: New 'Super Collider' Studio Clip Posted Online - Feb. 23, 2013
The seventh in a series of video clips featuring behind-the-scenes footage from the recording sessions for the new MEGADETH album, "Super Collider", can be seen below.

"Super Collider" is scheduled for release in June via MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine's new label, Tradecraft, which is distributed by Universal Music Enterprises(UMe).

"It was a real thrill for us to learn there was an opportunity to join Universal," said Mustaine. "It seems like every time you see a great band or music video, it comes from a Universal label.

"Being with Universal is by far the most exciting and prestigious home for MEGADETH ever! We are electrified with what the future holds and the possibilities such a powerhouse like Universal will bring for us all.

"We have worked with some great people over the years, and it is amazing to see so many of them on the Universal team for our new record, 'Super Collider'.

"If MEGADETH being here isn't satiating enough, having Tradecraft as my own label is going to be really amazing for metal bands around the world."

"Super Collider" is being recorded at Mustaine's Vic's Garage studio in San Marcos, California and is MEGADETH's first release its recent split with Roadrunner Records.

"Shawn [Drover, drums], Chris [Broderick, guitar] and David [Ellefson, bass] have all been feverishly contributing some great music and I believe we are doing our best work ever together in the studio right now," Mustaine said.

Speaking to Full Metal Jackie at last month's NAMM (National Association Of Music Merchants) show in Anaheim, California, Mustaine stated about the direction of the band's new material: "[MEGADETH bassist] David Ellefson is one of those guys that's kind of the barometer of the band. You ask me, you never really know what you're gonna get, but when you ask David Ellefson, it's kind of like reading the ingredients on the back of something, 'cause he's such a straight shooter. He told some people the other day that this is music that's really similar to [MEGADETH's 1985 debut album] 'Killing Is My Business... and Business Is Good!', some of the stuff — really dark, really heavy and fast stuff. I mean, I don't thnk it's really as fast and heavy as 'Killing' is, to me, but Junior is a great, like I said, barometer — bad word, but he knows what's going on."

On the topic of MEGADETH's current label situation, Mustaine said: "We have a new label. We left Roadrunner; we completed our contract with them, which not a lot of many metal bands have the luxury to have been able to complete contracts. They usually either break up or quit or give up and stuff like that, but we were honorable and finished our contract with them and we moved on. And we've actually got a fantastic relationship with a brand new label. We have eleven songs already recorded. We wanna give them thirteen, 'cause, you know, the B-sides and Japanese releases and all that kind of crazy stuff."

"MEGADETH is not just one of the most successful metal bands, but one of the most influential rock bands of the past 30 years," said UMe President/CEO Bruce Resnikoff in making the announcement. "They continue to be a huge draw on the road with their longtime fans as well as continually adding new fans. I look forward to working together with them."

With the recent acquisition of EMI, UMe now brings together MEGADETH's classic, 14-year, seven-album Capitol catalog, which includes one multi-platinum release ('92's "Countdown To Extinction"), four platinum records ('86's "Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?" ; '88's "So Far, So Good... So What?"; '90's "Rust in Peace"; '94's "Youthanasia"), and one gold ('97's "Cryptic Writings"). In all, the band has scored five U.S. Top 10 albums (including 2007's "United Abominations" and 2009's "Endgame") and two Top 5 releases, with 2011's "TH1RT3EN" debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Hard Rock Albums chart.

In a January 24 post on his Facebook page, Ellefson wrote about the recording process for MEGADETH's new album: "Having a great week here at Vic's Garage laying down bass on the new songs. Really some great, great songs taking shape at this point in the recording process. I told Dave [Mustaine] today that one of them totally reminded me of the earliest stuff back when we first met. Fast, ripppin' and fully bringing the REAL old-school MEGADETH sound!!!"

Johnny K produced MEGADETH's last album, 2011's "TH1RT3EN", which was also recorded at Vic's Garage.

If you write Megadeth backwards you get htedageM. Sounds like an arabic word.

Using google translator Megadeth > ????

This is a proof Dave Tearstaine is a muslim and hates America.

Fuck you, sir.....for thinking to DICTATE what a musical artist should or shouldn't be doing with their time.

I tooootally forgot that creating art, in any form, isn't about the actual artist's decision and inspiration. *gasp*

Thanks sooo much for clearing that up...

Dumbass.

Oh, and why are these guys in the studio so early? Perhaps becuase the last album didn't sell as expected. Look it up.

most of 13 was pieced together from old material. Dave knew it was their last album with RR, so saved new material for new contract. Nothing to do with sales #'s.
As to whether new material is good, wait & see if it mattered that he did it this way.

Some of that sounds pretty good.

Dave does NOT look good...it's almost like the craziness in his head is manifesting itself on his face now.

Talented guy, no question, but he's got some issues.

these "studio clips" released by Megadeth lately are completely pointless! Not a single one of those clips has given me any idea whatsoever about what the songs will sound like. A waste of time...

WTF do you guys listen to??? Megadeth contniuously put out quality music. I actually didn't think Thirteen was all that great after the first couple of listens, until I just recently went back and gave it another listen. Dave still cranks out better music than most these days!

"I believe we are doing our best work ever together in the studio right now," Mustaine said.
It's the same old story, you repeat these goddam words for every album. I'm fed up with that. Megadeth is one of the best metal bands ever, but it's sordid to play with words. Illusion. Are you ready for the next illusion? ENDGAME is a good album, 13 is a good album,
but YOUTHANASIA (that is not a masterpiece) is better than them, so Dave, don't fill your mouth with empty words. The new material reminds ya of KILLING IS...?, well, does it mean that it is wonderful? Megadeth lacks inspiration. Is exciting to have a new label, is exciting to be part of Universal blah blah blah?
I hope your new music will be exciting

Youthanasia is a great album. Not a speed metal phenomenon, but a great metal album. Black Curtains is the sleeper track on that one, love the catchy riffage and vocals on that one.

Youthanasia kinds of blows and he's right... only the System Has Failed..., of all the albums they've done since, is better than Youthanasia.

Endgame could've been better... if the drums hadn't been so fucking un-thrash metal and boring.

It blows my mind people think The System has Failed was better than Endgame. The System has Failed had exactly two good tracks on it and the rest sounds like Risk leftovers.

Endgame had horrible conspiracy theory lyrics and overly processed drums, but at least the music was good.

endgame is heavier, for sure, but it lacks memorable songs. there are a few moments, but no song matches the first 4 ones on system, it's all boring paint-by-numbers metal.

thrash still is my favourite style and kreator's latest release blows every single album out of the water that the big 4 did the past 10 years.
songwriting still is more important. and the only thing that grew on me listening to every megadeth album since 2004 is BOREDOM. massive boredom. and disappointment.
like somebody above said, they used to be the state of the art speed metal band. hell, if mustaince and junior don't have the fire anymore, then leave the speed metal out, but at least deliver "state of the art". those shitty home studio albums sound like an excuse to go make money touring. goddammit, at least 2 guys in that band have a legacy to defend. and now they're turning into a watered down version not of metallica, like newsted said 10 years ago, but of themselves. and that's ugly.

megadeth in the 1990s would have NEVER dared to put out a weak shit album like 13. even risk was a huge album compared to that pissweak attempt at a worthy album - except maybe for sudden death, the old tracks were better the way they were before.
just like that horrible, sticky and greasy rehash of a tout le monde with cristina. not sure if your mom would've liked that one, dave...
