SUICIDAL TENDENCIES To Release '13' Album Next Month - Feb. 23, 2013
Long-running Venice Beach, California thrash/punk band SUICIDAL TENDENCIES will release a new album, "13", on March 26.

A teaser for the CD's first video, "Cyco Style", directed by Pep Williams, can be seen below.

The first leg of SUICIDAL TENDENCIES' "Slam City" tour starts April 11 at the Regency Ballroom in San Franscisco and ends May 12 in San Diego at House Of Blues. All dates will see WAKE THE DEAD open. D.R.I. will support from Minneapolis to Charleston and SICK OF IT ALL will be join SUICIDAL TENDENCIES in Philadelphia, New York, Worchester, Baltimore, and from St. Petersburg until the end of the tour.

When asked why he thinks the sound of SUICIDAL TENDENCIES has stood the test of time, the band's frotnman, Mike Muir, told Loudwire in a 2012 interview, "I think for us, when we started we didn't really know what we were doing. We didn't really set out and try to do something for other people. We stood there and did what we liked. We didn't care what other people thought. After we did our first record, one of my good friends came up to me and said, 'Yo, Mike, I got to talk to you. People aren't going to like the album. It's not music. You have an opportunity to make music that people can listen to on the radio.' But I didn't think that was an opportunity because I didn't like what I was hearing on the radio. Our barometer is not what people are going to think or how many records we can sell. We just want to be proud of what we make. That's why it stands the test of time. We did records that we thought were really good."

On the topic of SUICIDAL TENDENCIES' plans to release a new studio album, Muir said, "We've always had new music in the works. Now it's actually to the point that we have some that we're ready to put out. Now is the time to put out a new record and we feel really, really good about it. There will definitely be a record out this year.

Regarding what fans can expect from the upcoming CD, Muir said, "The way we look at it is that next year will be the 30th anniversary of our first record. When we look at a record, we don't want to have it sound like 2012. We want it to sound awesome 25 years from now, so when a kid who wasn't even born when we made it listens to it, he's like, 'Damn, that's a cool record!' I just had a guy from a radio station tell me that some listeners have been requesting the new song 'Institutionalized'. The young listeners don't realize that's an old song! Something like [METALLICA's recent Orion Music + More festival] is good for us, too, because a lot of people who wouldn't have listened to us will check us out because they know Robert [Trujillo, METALLICA bassist] was in the band."

Yet another new metal album called "13"? What the hell's going on around here?! :P

My expectations for this album are very low, but the music in that clip didn't sound too bad, and I'll certainly give the album a chance when it comes out next month!

First Megadeth, then Black Sabbath and now S.T.? It looks like everybody likes the number 13.

It's not even close to anything that featured Rocky George. That guy was incredible and his sound was so heavy. This clip makes it clear how much they need him.

I would agree with that. ST ceased being a great band after Rocky and Rob left. Rocky was the main reason for Suicidal going in a more thrash metal direction after the more punkish/hardcorish debut. The debut is a classic album too of course, and that didn't have Rocky on it. But, nothing ST have done since Mike Muir reactivated the band in the late 90's (minus Rocky and Rob), has came anywhere near close to matching either the debut, or anything else released before they broke up in 1995.

I will check the new album out, but I know the chances of it being able to stand alongside the classic Suicidal material is very low. Especially since Mike Clark is now also gone.

You come to that conclusion after a 39-second clip of ONE song. That says a lot more about you than the current line-up of the band. You're right about Rocky George's brilliance, though.

How can Mike Muir talk about the history of the band & the musical direction for the future. He is the only founding member. Just a bunch of hired guns playing off the backs of the original members. Change the name move on. 25 past members of band speaks for itself. This is not the Suicidal i grew up on or anything even close. Almost like a bad tribute band. Not to mention the whole infectious grooves abortion. Sad Days in the music business.

Yeah in some ways I agree with you but I'm not sure you realize that even before the 1st ST album came out, there were already no original members left, just Mike.

I used to love ST and I still love everything prior to the late 90's.
But, Rocky George was the heart and soul of the band. His guitar sound IS the sound of Suicidal Tendencies.

Rob was great as well but the band was great before Rob joined.

The band really has been a total joke for the past 15 years. I have very low expectations for this album, so hopefully they can shock me and put out a great album. I highly doubt it, though.

Well I agree with most comments above....

but 99% failed to mention that either way, that short sample is thrashier and more metal than anything they've come up with for the last 20 years.

Hope they get it right this time!

Mike Muir won't have the former members back. He kept money from past members who had to take him to court to get their just earnings, after he fired them.

MM now has complete control and hired hands.
Why all fat though?
Are they literally the heaviest band on the planet?

I haven't bough a ST album in over a decade and won't ever again. I will download this and give it a listen.
And I hope for their sake there are no silly dated funk metal songs on it.

I was a fan of everything from ST to LCR, couldn't get into AoR, SFL was better then the band fizzed out, without Rocky they aren't as good. Now Mike C. is gone too? Just stick with the Syko Myko and leave ST's legacy to rest, unless Rocky's comin' back.

I love Suicidal...have for many many many years. But it just isn't Suicidal without at least two real members from the Epic signed years. Without Mike Clark...it's just Cyco Miko. I know Dean has been there for a long time, but only on the last two records, Freedumb being a masterpiece and Free your soul being a pile of shit.

I wish them the best, and I fucking HOPE TO HELL it is a solid record and not like Free your soul. Please no funk and wah wah shit from Dean Pleasants! Please.

It's been 14 years since they put out a great record with Freedumb. That is a hell of a long time to expect them to be great again, especially without Mike Clark, or Brooks Wackerman on drums.

Free Your Soul, save my mind was a very poor wannabe duplicate of Freedumb, and that was 13 years ago. Geez that is a long time for a good full length cd. I want to hear it, but I fear the worst. If a band isn't creative enough to write and record a proper record in 13 plus years, how could the creative juices still be flowing?
