METALLICA: 2013 'Orion Music + More' Festival Details Revealed - Feb. 25, 2013
METALLICA, in conjunction with their friends C3 Presents, are pleased to announce the lineup for the 2013 Orion Music + More festival, to be held at Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan on June 8 and 9. Headliners will include METALLICA, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, RISE AGAINST, DEFTONES and BASSNECTAR, while the festival will also feature amazing acts including GOGOL BORDELLO, FOALS, TOMAHAWK, THE JOY FORMIDABLE, DEATH GRIPS and local Detroit bands THE DIRTBOMBS, DEATH and BATTLECROSS.

"Last year's Orion Music + More festival was hands down the highlight of the METALLICA calendar. A great time was had by all, especially the band members," said METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich. "The fact that it also resonated with enough of our fans and friends that it warrants another go-around in '13 is beyond exciting. I can think of no better place than the Motor City, with its rich and diverse history of music, for the second ride on our Orion festival train. Bring it the fuck on!"

Orion Music + More will feature more than 30 bands across five live music stages plus a lifestyle element that reflects each of METALLICA's band members many personal interests. Detroit will see the return of James Hetfield's Custom Car & Motorcycle Show, Kirk Hammett's Crypt, Lars Ulrich's Hit the Lights Film Tent and Robert Trujillo's Vans Vert Ramp alongside the Metallica Museum and many other fan favorite attractions.

The METALLICA Met Club fan club presale starts February 26 at 10 a.m. (Eastern) and runs through February 28 at 10 p.m. (Eastern). Met Club members get first dibs on buying festival tickets with a couple of options to choose from:

* A super special price at $125 including all fees for a 2-Day Pass or
* The Met Club Ultra 2-Day Pass, which includes Front of Stage Viewing for METALLICA's set, Exclusive Ultra Lounge Access and more for $225 including all fees!

Orion Music + More E-list members will get a chance to purchase $150 2-Day Passes before they go on-sale to the public. This presale starts February 27 at 10 a.m. (Eastern) and runs through February 28 at 10 p.m. (Eastern).

I hope it's not the same death that belonged to Chuck. A reunion without him would suck.

They had one album called "for the whole world to see" which was pretty damn good IMO.

This is probably just a pay to play thing, where Metallica makes a lot of money by having lame bands open up for them.

Except that most of these bands (sans the dubstep) are top-notch acts, up and coming or otherwise.

It is not a local Detroit band. It is a band from Tampa that influenced countless death metal acts by laying some of the original blueprints for death metal while expanding it's sound over a nearly 20 year run. Then the guy who formed it/wrote nearly everything(Chuck Schuldiner) dies fighting brain stem cancer.... That name is OFF FUCKING LIMITS!

...you mean using their money and influence to help bands from the NWOBHM, Mercyful Fate, Accept, Armored Saint, etc. without whose influence Metallica wouldn't exist and who struggled all those years and expose them to a much bigger audience?

Nah, they'd rather have the likes of Limp Bizkit open for them. Way more deserving.

Metallica has given back more than most so chill out, goddamn, they've had diamond head play with them, king diamond perform with them, death angel open the 30th anniversary shows, the big 4 shows etc...you're talking about a tour from ten fucking years ago, give it a rest. You can't please everyone.

Yeah they really haven't done anything worthwhile since 99. Even then they were starting to blow. And they rarely play anything live nowadays that they wrote in the 80's/early 90's which to me is the only shit worth listening to. Their new shit is weak as fuck.

did Metallica really get them to play? they were an all Black punk band from detroit. a documentary about the band was released last year and the one and only album is a winner! I think one of the members died and his son is now in the band! if this is the same band then nicely done Metallica!

Just to mention that this isn't DEATH - Chuck Schuldiner's band. It is most likely the 70s black protopunk band of 60-somethings who are originally from Detroit and back playing gigs under their original name. That's all I can imagine - it certainly isn't even DEATH TO ALL. ERIC GREIF (lawyer for the Estate of Chuck Schuldiner)

Don't know why people are so shocked at the lack of metal on this package. Fucking mouth breathers. Go to one of those energy drink shows if you want a monotous showing of a dozen bands that sound alike. Metallica are obviously using this venue to put on the sort of show THEY would like to see. Because? Why not. They have enough money and fuck you. If they want to pack it full of indie bands and dubstep, who gives a shit? No one is holding a gun to your pimply head. I'd go for RHCP, Deftones, Tomahawk, Silversun Pickups, Joy Formidable and not even care if Metallica were there.
