MEGADETH: New 'Super Collider' Studio Clip Posted Online - Mar. 9, 2013
The ninth in a series of video clips featuring behind-the-scenes footage from the recording sessions for the new MEGADETH album, "Super Collider", can be seen below.

"Super Collider" is scheduled for release in June via MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine's new label, Tradecraft, which is distributed by Universal Music Enterprises(UMe).

"It was a real thrill for us to learn there was an opportunity to join Universal," said Mustaine. "It seems like every time you see a great band or music video, it comes from a Universal label.

"Being with Universal is by far the most exciting and prestigious home for MEGADETH ever! We are electrified with what the future holds and the possibilities such a powerhouse like Universal will bring for us all.

"We have worked with some great people over the years, and it is amazing to see so many of them on the Universal team for our new record, 'Super Collider'.

"If MEGADETH being here isn't satiating enough, having Tradecraft as my own label is going to be really amazing for metal bands around the world."

"Super Collider" is being recorded at Mustaine's Vic's Garage studio in San Marcos, California and is MEGADETH's first release its recent split with Roadrunner Records.

"Shawn [Drover, drums], Chris [Broderick, guitar] and David [Ellefson, bass] have all been feverishly contributing some great music and I believe we are doing our best work ever together in the studio right now," Mustaine said.

Speaking to Full Metal Jackie at the NAMM (National Association Of Music Merchants) show in Anaheim, California, Mustaine stated about the direction of the band's new material: "[MEGADETH bassist] David Ellefson is one of those guys that's kind of the barometer of the band. You ask me, you never really know what you're gonna get, but when you ask David Ellefson, it's kind of like reading the ingredients on the back of something, 'cause he's such a straight shooter. He told some people the other day that this is music that's really similar to [MEGADETH's 1985 debut album] 'Killing Is My Business... and Business Is Good!', some of the stuff — really dark, really heavy and fast stuff. I mean, I don't thnk it's really as fast and heavy as 'Killing' is, to me, but Junior is a great, like I said, barometer — bad word, but he knows what's going on."

Hmmm. Not sure about that vocal delivery, but I guess through the soundboard it will sound like the normal recorded Dave - for better or worse.

I woke up a few days ago and, my first thought was this: the new Megadeth album is going to be fucking awesome.

I've never been wrong when it comes to first-thought-of-the-morning so far as a band's upcoming album. Not once. New Megadeth music is always welcome in my home, and I think this one will be VERY welcome.

Megadeth released only one great song after Rust In Peace (Kill The King) and one pretty good song (Back In The Day).
Super Collider sounds like the title of a gay porno movie. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Th1rt3en (or however it was spelled) and Endgame were pretty generic titles. United Abominations was the last clever one.
I wish I could get excited about a Megadeth album. Dave used to be the man.

Hey man, check it out:

http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/gear-equipment/134902-chris-brodericks-pick-clip.html

Watch the vid there. the device frees up a finger that would otherwise be used to hold a regular pick.

Cheers.

the only thing sounding good was the heavy stuff at about 30-35 secs just before Dave's tinkering with the acoustic. who in the band has a the Mega-foo-foo dog?
Nothing good since RiP? Plenty of good since Rust, perhaps not up to par with Rust, but still plenty of good in the catalog since.

The albums have gotten progressively worse since System has Failed, which was a hell of an album. His new goal of being more metal than Metallica has left Dave treading water. I'm not asking for Risk here, but some balance would be nice.

Kick the Chair, Die Dead Enough, Tears in a Vial, Back in the Day, Of Mice and Men... I'm gonna go listen to System has Failed.

Chris does use a thumb pick. There is an interview on youtube somewhere where he talks about it.

This particular one is not a thumb pick in the traditional sense. Check out the link I posted above in reply to Chopshop.

Another snorefest like everything since TSHF...

Mustaine needs to realise: HIS HIRED GUNS DON'T CUT THE MUSTARD

... and it shows. TSHF rocked in part because it had Chris Poland on guitar and Vinnie Colaiuta on drums.

Chris Broderick is a boring ten-a-penny music school shredder
Shawn Drover's playing is too lackadaisical; he plays like he's in a classic rock band.

Get a thrash drummer
Get an interesting guitarist

Oh, and stop listening to Alex Jones.

Guarantee that it sounds nothing like KIMB. Same standard party line every album: fast, heavy, dark, sounds like the old stuff.

If I was their producer, which I am happy I am not... I'd suggest

- get a real drummer

- get an interesting guitar player, like sb above pointed out already

- downtune guitars to save what you still have of a voice

- listen to your records from KIMB to CW, your last great album

- don't release watered-down and halfbaked songs with fragments that don't make sense next to each other - e.g. "burning bridges" back in the day, could have been a great track but the boring chorus ruined it

- take TIME to write proper songs, not excuses to tour
