DEADSOIL are textbook metalcore. They can thrash it up, as on "Cross the Great Divide", or throw in clean singalong choruses, as on "Unspoken" and the melodic "These Stings". They can do the galloping AT THE GATES beat (see "True Belief") and they can do HATEBREED-style breakdowns.

What they can't do is inspire any kind of interest. Their music is devoid of originality, which in itself isn't a crime, but it's lethal when combined with a lack of personality. Even if this scene wasn't completely glutted at the moment, DEADSOIL would have precious little to offer besides generic riffing, the occasional melodic solo, and bargain-basement aggression that's not going to impress anyone over the age of thirteen.

There's not much else to say — DEADSOIL are as bland as tap water. They must put on one helluva live show, because it's hard to imagine anyone feeling a need to put their records out otherwise. Their big claim to fame, according to their bio, is that Jamey Jasta once told them they were a promising band. Well, what the hell else is someone gonna say backstage? "Go back to schnitzel-town, Olaf?" DEADSOIL are innocuous, inoffensive, and destined to be forgotten.
