AC/DC: Classic Albums Reach New Sales Heights
June 23, 2006Two classic AC/DC albums have reached new sales heights as of May 25, 2006, according to the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). The band's 1979 album, "Highway to Hell" — the last studio release to feature late frontman Bon Scott — has been certified septuple platinum for sales in excess of seven million copies in the United States. Meanwhile, 1990's "The Razor's Edge" has passed the five-million mark in the U.S., earning it quintuple-platinum status.
AC/DC's "Back in Black" album was certified last year for U.S. shipments of 21 million copies, tying it for fifth place with BILLY JOEL's "Greatest Hits Vol. 1 & II" on the Recording Industry Assn. of America's all-time best-sellers list.
AC/DC are expected to begin recording their next studio album in the U.K. later in the year. The group's last album, "Stiff Upper Lip" (2000),was recorded at the Warehouse studio (owned by Bryan Adams) in Vancouver, B.C., Canada.
