AC/DC Concert In Moncton Raises Tough Traffic Questions

Eric Lewis of Times & Transcript reports that the AC/DC show in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada on Aug. 6 presents a unique set of circumstances for the city as the show falls on a Thursday, breaking the Saturday tradition it has established with THE ROLLING STONES, EAGLES and country music shows of recent years.

For AC/DC, instead of sorting out how to deal with traffic loaded with tourists and shoppers on a busy weekend, the city will have to contend with that crowd and with people just going to and from work.

Ian Fowler, the city's general manager for recreation, parks, tourism and culture, says traffic planning for the show is now under way. The city's engineering department is co-ordinating with Codiac Transit and Codiac Regional RCMP to devise a plan.

"A weekday presents different traffic configurations for us than does a weekend, and also public transportation to the site in the sense that all of the buses typically are used on Thursdays, or most of them," he says.

"We haven't finalized anything specifically, but one of our priorities right now is the whole transportation issue for Aug. 6. It's a key priority and probably the most notable one that people will notice the differences in."
