AC/DC Honored At APRA MUSIC AWARDS

June 22, 2010

The APRA (Australasian Performing Right Association) has revealed the winners of the 2010 APRA Music Awards, announced yesterday evening (Monday, June 21) at a red-carpet gala event at the Sydney Convention Centre in Sydney, Australia. Hosted by Jonathon Biggins and Julia Zemiro, the awards celebrate composers and songwriters across 12 categories who have achieved excellence in their craft over the last year.

The influential "Songwriter Of The Year" award, presented by rock historian Glenn A. Baker and decided by the APRA Board of Writers and Publisher Directors, was awarded to AC/DC's Angus and Malcolm Young. The band's 2008 album release, "Black Ice", peaked at No. 1 across 27 countries and sold more than 1,700,000 units in its first week, and was accompanied by a worldwide, sold-out stadium tour. The Young brothers also took home the accolade for "Most Played Australian Work Overseas" for the AC/DC single "Rock 'N Roll Train". To mark the award, Megan Washington took to the stage at the ceremony to perform her own unique rendition of "Black Ice".
