April 18, 2008AC/DC's official web site has been updated with the following message:
"The waiting is almost over! AC/DC fans can expect the band's next album of new material sometime later this year. The band are currently recording in Vancouver with producer Brendan O'Brien and longtime audio engineer Mike Fraser. This will be the band's first collection of new material since the release of 'Stiff Upper Lip' in 2000."
According to Reuters, the new album will be AC/DC's first for Sony BMG's Epic Records label, which reissued the band's back catalog a few years ago.
AC/DC singer Brian Johnson told a Los Angeles radio station (listen below) earlier in the week that the band began working five weeks ago at a studio in Vancouver, British Columbia. He revealed, "We're working with Brendan O'Brien, (Bruce) Springsteen's producer, and he's a great guy. He knows exactly what we want, and so far, it sounds really good. I'm well pleased."
As for whether the band will tour to support the new disc, Johnson said, "I would probably thinks so, yeah. I always hate to say yes in case something happens, but I really do think we will be out there -- everybody's enjoying being back together again and the buzz is still there and the excitement."
O'Brien is also known for his work with STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, PEARL JAM, AUDIOSLAVE and VELVET REVOLVER, among others.
VH1 Classic host Eddie Trunk recently revealed on his New York radio show that AC/DC was rumored to be planning a "farewell" tour for later in the year.
In other news, "Totally Baked", a "stoner comedy" on which Brian Johnson is listed as an executive producer, will debut on DVD on April 22. Johnson also wrote three new songs for the movie's soundtrack.
