AC/DC Rumored To Play Glasgow In January

June 26, 2008

According to The Daily Record, AC/DC is rumored to have pencilled in a date at Glasgow, Scotland's SECC in January which could be followed by a world tour.

The rumors follow an announcement that their new album could be in the shops by August.

AC/DC recently announced a controversial decision to sell its upcoming album exclusively through Wal-Mart stores. The yet-to-be-titled disc will be the first from AC/DC since 2000's "Stiff Upper Lip".

Opinions regarding AC/DC's deal with Wal-Mart seem to be divided right down the middle, according to a round-up in news magazine The Week. Chicago Tribune blogger Mark Caro wrote, "The classic headbangers' new album won't be available at any sort of rock music store, but you can pick it up along with a box of Huggies?" He added that he wondered if the band "has sold its twisted soul."

A more positive view came from PrefixMag.com, whose Andrew Winistorfer wrote that the group's deal showed "forward thinking." He added that a Wal-Mart exclusive worked out well for THE EAGLES, who have sold "nearly three million copies since last summer."
But industry commentator Bob Lefsetz said the deal indicated that AC/DC has abandoned younger fans, explaining that while the group is "the biggest band still alive in the minds of teenagers...the closest Wal-Mart to me is almost 20 miles away!"
